1mpulseS0D Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 Hi! I'm wondering about the assembly of the shins and thighs of the AP armor kit. Does it matter if you put them together with the overlap method or the butt-join method? Thanks! Quote
Spectre Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 It comes down to personal preference I think. The cover strips are ANH screen accurate, but it really is whatever works for you. I also don't think you have to have cover strips to get Expert Infantry or Centurion...although I could be wrong. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted January 13, 2012 Author Report Posted January 13, 2012 I read the CRL and i couldn't find anything about the cover strips as a requirement at all. I guess that doing the overlap method and then gluing on the cover strip would work if cover strips becomes a requirement! Quote
Arnie_DK[TK] Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 Just remember to assemble them the the right way, with the overlapping part facing outwards Do this and i dont think there should be any problems Quote
daennika Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 I had thought of overlap for my shins, but the way AP shins are made... it would have looked wrong and uneven, with one side of each shin sinking deeper across the trim. Cover strips are the way to go if you can spare the time and effort. Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 (edited) you should butt join ALL anh and ESB style armors. only ROTJ should be overlapped. the overlap is the outside leg over the inside leg part. with the back having an overlap strip also on the outside part. it will not look correct to overlap an ANH or ESB armor.. it's very very noticable! to do the butt join method you want to cut off 1/2 of the overlap, so that both parts join leaving a 1" flat area. the cover strip is 7/8" wide and the best way to make those is from a 1" piece of aluminum strip C clamped to a plywood strip with the plastic strip under, this makes it easy to score with a box cutter 3 times, then simply bend and snap. lightly sand the dull side of the strip and slightly on the edges glue down one side first, then apply the other side. it can be helpful if you have 20 small clamps and some white duck tape! always use E-6000 as it's very forgiving! line up all leg parts from the top, then after the assembly is complete, then cut to finish up the bottoms. 1mpulseS0D Posted February 6, 2012 Author Report Posted February 6, 2012 So i've glued my left shin now, but the back of it doesn't seem to line up. What should i do? Also, is there going to be a covering strip on the back of the shin? If so, on which side? Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted February 6, 2012 Report Posted February 6, 2012 If it doesn't fit you have to force it to fit. And yes, there's a coverstrip on the back of the shin. It's glue on the outer half of the shin. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted February 6, 2012 Author Report Posted February 6, 2012 The shins fits me but the top/bottom of the both backsides of the halves doesn't match up. Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted February 6, 2012 Report Posted February 6, 2012 Well, I think AP comes with a doubled up inner shin, so that's just how AP is. Quote
