TD-4395[501st] Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 (edited) I originally went with loctite 2 part epoxy and now am stuck with a glue encrusted mess. Whats the best way to remove it without harming the abs? Im hoping to remove the epoxy clean it up and use the abs weld. Due to frustration with glues. :6: Edited January 11, 2012 by dante12721 Quote
SolderMaster Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 Can you post some pictures of the area? It will help in determining what the best method would be. Quote
sskunky Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 (edited) A two part epoxy is pretty strong stuff. Have you tried soaking them in hot water and used a knife to gently prise them apart. You may have to sand the epoxy off. The only thing I know that desolves epoxy is acetone but that will disolve the ABS too so don't use that.... Edited January 11, 2012 by sskunky Quote
troopermaster Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 When you eventually remove the epoxy you really should use E6000. It is soooo much better than any other adhesive and a must for trooper armour! Quote
TD-4395[501st] Posted January 11, 2012 Author Report Posted January 11, 2012 it was easy to get the parts apart, heres a pic: it was decent looking before i tore them apart, but the cover strip wasnt flush with the armor lol so i took it off which lead to the huge glue mess Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 Sand off the epoxy and use E-6000 instead. Much better! Quote
Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 Yeah I think the only way to get that stuff off is by mechanical means. You can try a razor sharp woodworking chisel but I'd fear for the ABS underneath. Maybe use a power sander first and then hand sand with lighter grits. No matter what you do go slow and take your time. Amen on E-6000. I'm kicking myself for some recent CA glue stupidity because I was impatient. Aloha, -Eric Quote
TD-4395[501st] Posted January 11, 2012 Author Report Posted January 11, 2012 i hear ya i was able to use e-6000 over it and the end result isnt too bad. better than i thought it was going to be. Theres just going to be some along the edge of the coverstrip where it bled out here and there. Quote
sskunky Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 Liquid solvent cement is a winner too.... It's all I use. Sets in 15 minutes and is invisible.... Quote
TD-4395[501st] Posted January 12, 2012 Author Report Posted January 12, 2012 yeah im planning on using something similar for my snaps, im going to use the abs cement from the plumming section of homedepot. Quote
