TK_LEPER Posted December 12, 2011 Author Report Posted December 12, 2011 (edited) Thanks Martin! I also have the leg pieces trimmed around their openings... and I'm trimming all the small parts now, plates, belts, buttons etc. One thing I noticed were the rivet covers are a tad large, compared to the LFL Archive Photos. The round button should be about 1/4" smaller than the ones that came with the kit. So I may have to make a set of my own. Just have to purchase some ABS sheets... Which RS Props has offered up. I think I may have to do one of my own detonator kits (in ABS) as well... just prefer the look of mine I guess. Edited December 12, 2011 by TK 4702 Quote
Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted December 12, 2011 Report Posted December 12, 2011 (edited) Photos of this kit and news of the build caused me to instinctively put my fist in the air with pointer and pinky fingers raised. -Eric (null) Edited December 12, 2011 by Darth Aloha Quote
TK_LEPER Posted December 13, 2011 Author Report Posted December 13, 2011 Jessie, Is there "Cut" lines on the armor? Or is it estimate? Andy No, just using visual reference on this one. Quote
TK_LEPER Posted December 13, 2011 Author Report Posted December 13, 2011 (edited) I finished the last of the major trimming and sanding tonight... Next I'll be drilling, glueing, clamping and strapping it all together. Although I have yet to cut my strips... I still need to find measurements on all those, I know I've seen them on here somewhere. Today I also ordered a lot of stud style snaps for my belt/ab plate... The originals were 13mm, the ones I ordered were 12.5mm and look pretty darn close. I should have extras if anyone needs them? I also ordered my brackets from R2Dan the other day, he had some left over from a run he did for RS Props... So I snatched those up. Happy I don't have to do those myself! Ewww! Photos to come ... TK_LEPER Posted December 13, 2011 Author Report Posted December 13, 2011 (edited) Nice! Did you use a bandfile belt sander? I have been thinking of picking one up. I used the same one in this tutorial I did a while back, scroll to about 1:43 in and you'll see it. http://youtu.be/n1zeqNW11hw Edited December 13, 2011 by TK 4702 Quote
TK_LEPER Posted December 21, 2011 Author Report Posted December 21, 2011 (edited) Slowly making some progress on the arms... I need more magnets to do this job right (have some on the way). Once the glue sets fully, I'll clean up the overflow on the strips, etc. And sorry about the quality of these. Perhaps I'll reshoot them when I have time... which is never. Griffin-X[TK] Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 I like your creative clamping methods. Great work and lessons for us all. Quote
TK_LEPER Posted December 29, 2011 Author Report Posted December 29, 2011 Thanks R2Dan for these brackets, they are perfect! Quote
TK_LEPER Posted December 29, 2011 Author Report Posted December 29, 2011 (edited) I know haven't posted many photos lately... But here's what progress I've made on the suit. Torso parts are trimmed and cleaned up... just need to start sewing my straps, drilling holes for snaps and brackets, etc. Arms are going ok, just need to clean up a bit of glue n stuff, then smooth out the return edges a bit... not much. Probably start strapping these soon Legs are about half way trimmed and glued... none of the backs have been glued yet. Left thigh still in progress... Left Shin Right Shin getting there, still needs back to be done. Started glueing on the knee plate tonight ... woo hoo! :B Doo dads... Normally wouldn't trim make the drop boxes this thin... But they had a bit of an outward curve (probably didn't vac form all the way), so I had no choice. Toying with the idea of making my own Ab details... these are a bit soft. I'll be using a set of Karins painted hand guards vs. the abs plates that came with this kit. Maybe I've been staring at my own detonator control panel too long...? But the one that came with this kit (right) looks a little funny to me. Like my drop boxes... The end caps also fanned out, so I had to cut them short... I may just use one of my detonator kits instead. So that's it for now... Edited December 29, 2011 by TK 4702 Quote

bobojuice Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Looking really good, Jesse. I just have one question. Are you sure it's going to fit me? Quote
Griffin-X[TK] Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 You are an inspiration man. Top notch. Quote
TK-4935 Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Nice job on the thighs and shins so far. You did an awesome job of matching up each part. Quote
TK_LEPER Posted December 29, 2011 Author Report Posted December 29, 2011 Thanks guys! Tricky kit... Been looking at a lot of reference photos. Quote
SCTrooper[TK] Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Wow your almost done!Looks great. How do the armor part halves line up? Did you have to heat them up or anything. Quote
SW1 Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Looking Good mate , i know what you mean by tricky kit and you cant go wrong using the LFL for referance pics , and take your time its worth it for the end result , thats what iam doing Jesse with my RS PVC , iam defentley have got to use the heat gun on some parts , keep it comming mate the thin drop boxes i kinda like , iam sure there was the odd trooper in ANH with them Quote
TK_LEPER Posted December 30, 2011 Author Report Posted December 30, 2011 (edited) I haven't had to use the heat gun too much, but yeah ... sometimes you have to force the parts together a little. Trimmed and glued the right thigh together some last night. Also started working on a holster that I had ordered, it looked too long and the straps were all too wide... so I'm working on that some. I also picked up a bunch of elastic last night... time to start sewing some loops for the torso... except I don't have a working sewing machine. Edited December 30, 2011 by TK 4702 Quote
RS Prop Masters Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 Looking great so far. Jesse, what's the depth achieved on the drop boxes and end caps? If you need replacement parts let me know brother. Quote
TK_LEPER Posted January 2, 2012 Author Report Posted January 2, 2012 Looking great so far. Jesse, what's the depth achieved on the drop boxes and end caps? If you need replacement parts let me know brother. End caps should be at least at least 3/4" deep (after trimming). I would say about at least 3/8" or just under 1/2" deep on the drop boxes (after trimming). Quote
TK_LEPER Posted January 2, 2012 Author Report Posted January 2, 2012 I'm assuming that they used split rivets to hold this part on? Quote
Rich330[TK] Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 I'm assuming that they used split rivets to hold this part on? No, cap rivets. From the outside they look very much the same. Quote
Lupex[TK] Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 What size are the cap rivets, 9mm? Quote
Rich330[TK] Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 I think 7mm is the correct size. They're definitely slightly smaller in diameter than the split rivets which are 8mm. Quote
Lupex[TK] Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 And they are clearly painted white for the knee? Quote
