lmr Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 All right, with my armor arrived it was time to start building. So, start I did. While wearing my new bucket. I quickly realized I couldn't see well enough out of it to do work, so I took it off again and laid out most of what I had to work with. As some of you may have heard, the calves have given me trouble already, however I set to work on the arms, As I've heard, the biceps were easy. I found the forearms were a little too tight to fit my hands through, so I decided to glue one side of the forearm and use velcro on the other. I did that, and it was pretty easy. So while everything set I made snap plates, then eventually glued them. At some future point I'll probably buy latex handplates. But for now I'm just using velcro to attach the handplates to the backs of cheap chemical gloves. More updates will come as I slowly but surely make some progress in the build. And naturally thoughts, concerns, and comments are welcome. Quote
Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted December 5, 2011 Report Posted December 5, 2011 Awesome. The world always needs more RT-MOD troopers. Aloha, -Eric Quote
lmr Posted January 20, 2012 Author Report Posted January 20, 2012 Well, the holiday break from this project is over and done with, and now I'm done with the armor t-shirt, need to move on to the rest. How am I looking? Quote
Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 How am I looking? Looking mighty great. Did you trim biceps and forearms much? I bet you're not wearing pants in that photo... are you? Aloha, -Eric Quote
lmr Posted January 20, 2012 Author Report Posted January 20, 2012 Didn't have to trim at all actually. There's not really any pinch in them unless I start forming YCMA with my arms and dancing around, so I decided to just save myself some effort. And I decided to put on my dive skin for the occasion. Give that nice black look to everything. But now that you mention it, I might ditch my pants now... Quote

I trimmed a bunch from both Aloha, -Eric Quote
Spectre Posted January 21, 2012 Report Posted January 21, 2012 Haha, the truth hurts Eric. I trimmed too much off of my forearms. now they look weird haha Quote
lmr Posted January 27, 2012 Author Report Posted January 27, 2012 (edited) All right. The time for more feedback is now. I ran out of decent snaps and I'm in a rush to finish for Episode I, so I'm temporarily using velcro and some snaps. Until I have time to remove it and use all snaps. So from the front I think I look decent. But from the back? Godawful mess. Let me know how to deal with this please. EDIT: I think that it's lop-side because the straps were sliding around my shoulders Edited January 27, 2012 by lmr Quote
xaoslord Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 Can you post some pics of what your current strapping looks like? That may make it easier to suggest some fixes. Quote
lmr Posted January 27, 2012 Author Report Posted January 27, 2012 I'll do it first thing tomorrow, when there's good light. Quote
Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 Tough to tell but I think if you pull the ab up a bit, your cod and butt will also go up. Maybe connect the chest and ab together somehow? I used elastic. The ab coming up should help with the butt meeting the kidney. Then it might be a matter of sliding the back down to meet the kidney, which may mean lengthening your shoulder elastic a bit. I suggest making whatever is holding butt to kidney and kidney to butt as short as possible. Aloha, -Eric Quote
lmr Posted January 27, 2012 Author Report Posted January 27, 2012 All right. shortened the elastic and took new pics. I think it's improved now. Quote
Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Yah that's way better. Butt plate straps still could be shorter to close the gap. It might mess with your belt placement too. With the chest up higher I bet the cod sits better no? Aloha, -Eric Quote
lmr Posted February 1, 2012 Author Report Posted February 1, 2012 (edited) So, during a trial fitting of the lower half, my thighs and my calves are hitting each other and the sniper plate is tucking under the thigh. I take this to mean I have to do some trimming, but my question is, do I trim the bottom of the calves or the top of the thighs? Sadly, no pics. I have no convenient cameraman around today. EDIT I am going to install a shim in the backs of the thighs to see if that raises them up more. Edited February 1, 2012 by lmr Quote
lmr Posted February 3, 2012 Author Report Posted February 3, 2012 OK, so I've done a few things you can see in these photos. I've widened the thighs a bit, and I got creative with the shins since they don't close around my calves. But the big thing I'm concerned with is how the shins and the thighs just sort of run into each other. I need advice on what to do. And here's a close-up on those legs. Quote
jnnfr72[TK] Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 Luke, Your armor is looking nice! I bet you can customize your shins some more.... get them a bit more form fitted. Would lifting your thigh pieces help with your knees? I'm still thinking if you can get your shins more form-fitted that would help with your knee area. The adjustments you've made so far are looking awesome. Quote
Darth Aloha[Admin] Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 Hmmm looks to me that your cod should come. It doesn't look flush against your ab... Then your thighs can come up too so your shin tops don't get caught on the bottom of your thighs. Your butt is hanging low too (I amuse myself way too often) and when it comes up your thighs won't hit your butt in the back. What's your inseam? Rock on. Aloha, -Eric Quote
tkrestonva[TK] Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 What color did you paint your thermal detonator? Quote
lmr Posted February 4, 2012 Author Report Posted February 4, 2012 (edited) I actually just tinkered with the cod, but I have no idea how to raise the butt. It's flush with the kidney, which is strapped to my abdomen. I suppose I could attach it to the back, but I'm not sure how exactly I'd get this monkey suit on that way. As to the TD, I didn't paint it at all. That's precisely the way rob sent it. Inseam was 32 last time I measured. Two last things. How can I get the shins to fit better? And is it customary to sound like the gorram tin man from the Wizard of Oz while walking around? Edited February 4, 2012 by lmr Quote
firebladejedi[TK] Posted February 8, 2012 Report Posted February 8, 2012 You dont often see RT builds these days, then 2 come along at once... Quote
lmr Posted February 12, 2012 Author Report Posted February 12, 2012 Belt's a little caddy-wompas I know, but I was jittery getting ready now that I'm all done. Thoughts? Quote
Spectre Posted February 12, 2012 Report Posted February 12, 2012 I'd say adjust the thigh strapping to bring them up a bit. The way they are now, the sniper plate will go under the thigh while you walk. One you bring the thighs up bring up the shins a tiny bit, they look to be sitting a bit low. Looks good overall mate! Quote
lmr Posted February 12, 2012 Author Report Posted February 12, 2012 I've tried. I can try harder but I think that's all the height I can get out of them. Quote
