tk236[501st] Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 (edited) Another deactivated sterling project, there are many like it but this one is mine lol. So I was able to cut out and re-use all the good original parts from the kit. I pretty much followed Jesse's tutorial to the "T" (http://forum.mepd.ne...?showtopic=8455) and did everything he did the same way. Everything works on this blaster. The back end cap comes off so the spring and bolt can slide out, the spring and bolt cox's/move. The trigger works in full auto, semi auto and safety modes. Mag clip clips in and releases, folding stock moves and locks in place both in the front and in the rear. I still have some touch up cleaning to do on it but I'm happy with how its turning out. Im thinking of keeping it two toned so everyone can see whats original and whats new. But do I keep it looking like just a sterling or do I move ahead and moddify if it to look like an E11? http://s1217.photobu...ms/dd384/tk236/ Mike (hk-236) Edited November 17, 2011 by tk236 Quote
darksideemt Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 Just my $.02, make it the E-11. I guess you got it due to the Star Wars connection so why not make it look like the movie? Either way it is a super nice gun. Quote
SW1 Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 Sweet looking Blaster there Mike all eyes on this one Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 (edited) That's a sweet restoration! Of course you should make it an E-11 Edited November 17, 2011 by Locitus Quote
Marv Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 E-11 all the way. The sterling is an awesome looking bit of kit, and is fantastically engineered, but I'd definitely go the whole distance. I totally love mine Quote
mailman70 Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 Nice looking build so far Mike, but I'm in agreement with everyone else ... E-11 all the way. I was wondering though ... I've started my own scratch build E-11 ...Really taking my time since I don't even have armor yet. I've seen several of these decommissioned Sterling projects. Where does one find these decommissioned Sterlings? Quote
Marv Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 There a deactivated sterling on eBay.com fully dressed I saw t'other day. Quote
gazmosis[501st] Posted November 18, 2011 Report Posted November 18, 2011 How did you get the old parts off and how did you adhere the new parts to the main tube? Quote
ZeroRoom[TK] Posted November 18, 2011 Report Posted November 18, 2011 Great build Mike - can't wait to see it painted up. Everyone is clearly voting to go E-11 with this for obvious reasons, but I totally understand your quandary. I only began researching the Sterling in order to build an E-11 too, but I've become quite the Sterling "trainspotter" as a result and have totally fallen in love with the gun as is. I'm definitely going to make me a pure Sterling build so I can have both. Quote
tk236[501st] Posted November 18, 2011 Author Report Posted November 18, 2011 Hey thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement. Im happy everyone is liking/approving the project so far I think I will move ahead with the project and go E11. I can always build me another sterling lol. As for some of the questions asked: @ Matt (mailman70)- check out Apex gun parts, gun broker.com, Unique canes, Numrich guns @ Steve (gazmosis)- So far the only tools Iv used is my dremmel with metal cutting wheels, grinding stones, sandwheels to surgically cut the original parts off and using the same tools for the main reciever tube plus the help of a drill press. To attach everything Iv just used JB Weld. Quote
Marv Posted November 25, 2011 Report Posted November 25, 2011 Looking forward to seeing your build progress up here soon Mike. Quote
