PlayfulWolfCub Posted March 22, 2012 Author Report Posted March 22, 2012 (edited) Andy, I am going to put on the wires as well. There is a screen shot of Lukes blaster. The picture is right after they show Lea the Falcon Luke's "E11" looks like it has a few thin wires connecting the Counter to the Power Cylinders; not the thicker "Curly" wires. I am looking for that pic. Andy I've just had a look at that scene and I can't see Hengstler Counters on either Luke or Han's blasters. Are you sure that's the scene the photo you've seen came from & that it's Luke's? I don't think Han or Luke ever have a Hengstler during the film. The Tunisian E11 that Han has in the publicity shots has a Hengstler and it probably had the tiny wires & at least one resistor still attached because that's how you can often buy used Hengstlers & the props department probably wouldn't have bothered taking them off. PlayfulWolfCub Posted March 24, 2012 Author Report Posted March 24, 2012 (edited) I've found these! they look fairly close. I can't remember whether all the research Andy19422, Marv & myself did on locating these parts is in this thread. . We did a lot of work but, after contacting many specialists & discovering that the parts probably came from ground based UK military radar equipment from the 1950s/60s, we just couldnt find out what exact unit it was. I'm optimistically still hoping to chance upon an original unit at a miltary fair or through eBay autosearches. If you're wanting to "take up the search baton" & can't find the research in this thread I could send you the collection of emails & messages I've got on the subject. Cheers, Andy Edited March 24, 2012 by PlayfulWolfCub Quote
PGHtrooper21 Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 Here is where I am so far. I finished the end caps of the cylinders and I drilled the ends and put in the bolts and nuts. I need to drill out the 3 bottom holes where the wires from the "capacitors", line up the cylinders, soder the wires and the cylinders, prime and paint using "Flat Black" and I believe that they are finished. Also I enclosed pics with the "Cylinders" on my "Dummy Sterling Build" to give an idea how everything looks. Andy Quote
sskunky Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 (edited) They look great! Good eye. I'm quite happy to help look for them but as for taking up the "Batton"... I am quite a busy man as I make and sell armour as well as other props from other films and have many projects on the go. But I'm always up for a challenge. You could pm me the details of your research and I can search when I have the time. I don't want to steal anyone's thunder here but cylinders have been a passion for quite some time as you can see from the plans I posted years ago with some other members. Ok so they weren't the most accurate but for the time they were a break through. Times have moved on and accuracy levels have been raised. Finding the real deals would be fantastic but I fear that boat may have sailed. We just don't have the military and aviation graveyards that used to be around in the 70's anymore. Shame...... TK895 Michael[TK] Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 Sorry to come so late to the party. I had a horrible disc crash and lost all of the high res shots from COSI of the landspeeder. I do have a few printouts including the part numbers. As soon as I find the folder in the basement I will return to post the info. Quote

That's a huge shame about your drive crash, they were the best photos I've seen of these parts. I guess losing landspeeder photos was the least of your worries though!? Really looking forward to seeing your printouts. Cheers, Andy Quote
PGHtrooper21 Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 Looking good Andy I don't know if you're thinking of shaping the back plate but if you are I've tweaked my Han templates a bit more & I believe they're now totally screen accurate with screenshots to support each design element (not all shown as I wanted a 1-page guide for simplicity). Here's the latest version. The only thing I haven't finalised is the electronics at the back which no-one ever puts on anyway. I'll be doing a "Luke & Leia at the chasm" Power Cylinders template soon but that one has 2 capacitors & you've used 3 so that's not the variant you're recreating. Cheers, Andy Andy, I am going to put on the wires as well. There is a screen shot of Lukes blaster. I was wondering about the different styles of the "backplates" were different because it was how they cut out the "Cylinders" from the unit? Andy Quote
Abaris Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 Here are some closeups of my own: In one pic you can read M1346 on the black plate that holds the cylinders. I hope that helps. BTW, if you search M1346, it has nothing to do with the Panasonic TV (it was made in the 90s). Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 Thanks Charlie. Great pictures! Quote
ZeroRoom[TK] Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 Great pics Charlie - if only they hadn't painted over the parts to make all the props! Quote
Evilboy[501st] Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 Just read this thread from start to finish. Absolutely fascinating. My 85-year-old Step-Father is a retired electrical engineer who worked on military comm and radar equipment in the 50's and later on the Gemini and Apollo programs, and I am going to share this thread with him and see if he has any insight.... Locitus[Admin] Posted May 12, 2012 Report Posted May 12, 2012 That's a beautiful power cylinder pack Andy! I do think you have the rear threaded rod a bit too long, but otherwise it looks awesome! Quote

Mathias, Thanks! I know that they are too long. I will be cutting the "rods" when I attach the wires from the "Counter" to the "Power Cylinders". Andy Quote

matt black Posted May 28, 2012 Report Posted May 28, 2012 How do these look for the capacitors? I think they look a bit chubby but I can't find any of the ones posted earlier in this thread anywhere. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2pcs-1UF-350v-TCC-CAPACITOR-/200438763611?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Valves_Vacuum_Tubes&hash=item2eab14d05b Quote
