burnjp5 Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 hey FISD, in an effort to make my thighs fit I cut the edges at the bottom of my thighs off. Obviously this was a mistake, and I am now wondering what, if anything can be done to salvage it aside from buying new parts. Thanks. Quote
burnjp5 Posted October 6, 2011 Author Report Posted October 6, 2011 basically the thighs are about as long as 2/3 of my leg. the bottoms are now evenly cut as they appear in the image. I also don't have enough $$ to replace these thighs... Quote
TrooperVenger Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 Hmm. I don't think anything can be done to restore them or at least nothing I can think of. Maybe one of the more skilled armourers can suggest something. If the thighs didn't fit, you need to remove some material from the TOP of the thighs, not the bottom - but I guess that's obvious to you now. Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 u need new ones. period. sorry to say! but those can't be approved. Quote
tk0000[501st] Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 You may be able to get creative with a few strips of plastic, some bondo and paint to hold you over until you can replace them. Quote
gazmosis[501st] Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 The edge that was removed is too difficult to replicate even if one has mad skills. Your time and money would be better spent on new ones. Quote
TrooperTim Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 (edited) Being an artist, I have sculpting material and one of our squad mates is a master at fiberglass. We can attempt to sculpt the edge back, paint it white, and hit it with a rustoleum gloss coat. Before you drop money on a new thigh, lets try this. I want to prove that it can be done. Never say never! Edited October 7, 2011 by TrooperTim Quote
senna1rossi[TK] Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 ^ hey Tim, would you mind driving to Vegas, and fiishing my armor, please? i'll take you to all the hot spots after you finish... Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 hmm.. sculpting fibreglass, bondo and paint. and that's gonna be cheaper than a new set of thighs? good luck! Quote
DudeSidious Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 the bit you cut off maybe you could try and glue back on and with a bit of filler you could get by. Quote
troopermaster Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 (edited) the bit you cut off maybe you could try and glue back on and with a bit of filler you could get by. I am thinking something along those lines. You obviously cut them off because they were too long, so rather than trying to put them back on as they came off, maybe just cut off the raised border and try gluing the border back onto the bottom of your thighs? At least this will give you a better finish than what you have now and will keep you trooping until you get replacements. There may be a fair bit of tweaking needed to get everything looking sweet again, but this is the price you pay for been too keen with the trimming! Edited October 8, 2011 by troopermaster Quote
