1mpulseS0D Posted August 26, 2011 Author Report Posted August 26, 2011 I got both arms done now! Onto the thighs, i think. Do i need to get TK-boots before i do the shins or can i do it without them? Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted August 26, 2011 Report Posted August 26, 2011 I think you can do them before you get the boots. Just keep them in mind. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted August 26, 2011 Author Report Posted August 26, 2011 So i should leave some room by the ankles for the shoe to fit in? Seems like a good idea Anyways, going to work on the thighs first. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted August 30, 2011 Author Report Posted August 30, 2011 (edited) I'm in a quite tricky situation. Is it possible to complete the thighs without magnets? Else would these magnets do the trick since i can't get any rare earth magnets here. http://www.clasohlso...px?id=164541316 They have a force of 0.9 kg, of course i will use clamps at the ends of the thigh but at the middle section? Locitus[Admin] Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 No, they are far too weak. Search E-bay. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted August 30, 2011 Author Report Posted August 30, 2011 How much force is recomended for clamping together armor? Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 I suggest you get those graded N48. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted August 30, 2011 Author Report Posted August 30, 2011 (edited) Ok, I'll look for them! Would 12mmX1.5mm do? Link to the bay for them Edited August 30, 2011 by 1mpulseS0D Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 Those could do, but I also know many using these http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120357100337&category=119112&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619#ht_1670wt_1398 Quote
MartinSivertsen[501st] Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 Those Mathias linked to are awesome. I have 20 of them myself, and I still could need a few more! I'm stacking them two on top of each other, feeling it has a little more pull, so I use four magnets each including clamps on the ends when gluing on finishing strips on arms and legs, just to keep the strip laying flush and nice against the seam. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted September 1, 2011 Author Report Posted September 1, 2011 Even though i can't continue gluing until i got some magnets, i got my helmet done. My mictips from Keith finally arrived and they are awesome! Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted September 18, 2011 Author Report Posted September 18, 2011 So... There hasn't been too much work on the kit for a while now. Im in the painful progress of making snaps and snapplates :/ Hard work, I've also ordered some magnets so i can get my legs finished! Updates might come this week or next depending on when i get my magnets! Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted April 7, 2012 Author Report Posted April 7, 2012 Back with some updates, my upper body is next to finished with strapping and all. All i need is to paint the buttons and attach them. The belt is still untouched. My current work is being done on the leg pieces. Hopefully they will be done in a couple of weeks, school takes up much time :/ One question i have about the shoulder straps though is if i still can get approved for EIB or Centurion if i use snaps to hold down the shoulderstraps, i have a hard time bending them and i don't want to ruin them. Since AP shoulderstraps comes unbent I'm clueless. Pictures of torso will come up soon Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 Boil them in water for a few minutes. That should help to ease the bending. Or get a hot air gun. Do not use snaps. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted April 7, 2012 Author Report Posted April 7, 2012 Ok, do i put the whole piece in boiling water or just the part where i want the bend? Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 i would put all it in. But I didn't have to do this with mine. But don't worry, they aren't going to melt or anything, just get a little soft. I put my TD end caps in boiling water when I needed to fit them onto the pipe. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted April 9, 2012 Author Report Posted April 9, 2012 Some pictures as promised Does my shoulders fit good, or should they come up more? Also does the back and front hang nicely or should they come together more? Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 Chest and shoulder bells could come up a bit. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted April 9, 2012 Author Report Posted April 9, 2012 Back and front are closer together and the shoulder bells are higher up. Looks good? Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 Yeah, that looks better. Of course, it's hard to tell until you're completely finished, but it's better than before. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted April 9, 2012 Author Report Posted April 9, 2012 I bent the shoulder straps with some cooking water, everything went smoothly, glued them onto the chest and also added some snapplates to it for holding up the stomach/holding the back together. Pictures tomorrow when the E-6000 have dried and everything is in place Quote
LadyInWhite[TK] Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 Just joining in... looking good... I hadn't thought or heard of the boiling water, but that's smart. I have a heat gun, but my hair dryer would have worked. See, you never stop learning new things! Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted April 10, 2012 Author Report Posted April 10, 2012 (edited) I bet i placed the shoulder straps too far back :/ (If you compare my helmet to my older pictures, you will notice that i lowered the brow ) Is it acceptable or do i have to redo it? Really hoping that it is acceptable EDIT: I think i can spot some high sitting shoulderstraps in here somewhere Specially on the one to the left in front. I hope it still is acceptable, atleast it is movie accurate Edited April 11, 2012 by 1mpulseS0D Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 While they do seems to be a bit too far back, it's not something that matter too much. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted April 10, 2012 Author Report Posted April 10, 2012 Thats comforting to hear! Now i don't have to worry about the shoulderstraps not passing inspection Quote
