1mpulseS0D Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 (edited) And so it's my turn to turn over to the dark side! I picked up by brown box of happiness containing a wonderful AP kit! I have waited over 4½ months for it and finally. I'm the proud owner of a AP armor! I just can't describe the feeling i got now, and i bet all of you have felt it. It's just surreal. This will be an interesting build and I've already begun with the handplates! I'm going to try to go centurion but since it's 1½ more years until i turn 18, i got some time to make it perfect! I'm aiming at a ANH stunt armor!I am done with the handplates and I'm thinking of doing the shoulder bells now. What other parts are quite simple to begin with? gazmosis[501st] Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 All I can say is...WOW! And we can't wait to see build pics. After 4 months I know you're jumpy to dig in but make sure you have a huge plate full of patience next to you to snack on constantly!!!! Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted July 25, 2011 Author Report Posted July 25, 2011 Build pictures will be coming as soon as I've trimmed all peices But since I'm quite happy for this, I'm working on the helmet at the moment. Some pics of that will come up tonight. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted July 25, 2011 Author Report Posted July 25, 2011 And here we are, after about 5 hours of cutting I think I'm halfway through the trimming process Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 Cool! Looks like it's going well. Of course you should go for centurion! Quote
anphrax[TK] Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 Wow! It's cool to see I'm not the only one working on my first build! Good luck Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted July 25, 2011 Author Report Posted July 25, 2011 Wow! It's cool to see I'm not the only one working on my first build! Good luck Thanks! I'm done for the day. 6 hours straight of cutting and my fingers are a little tired. Going to complete the cutting tomorrow (I hope) This is really fun, but the first problem I've bumped into is, how do i separate the butt and the kidney plate the easiest way? Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 You can cut it with scissors or a dremel. I recommend lexan scissors. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted July 25, 2011 Author Report Posted July 25, 2011 You can cut it with scissors or a dremel. I recommend lexan scissors. I'm using the lexan scissor but I'm having a hard time to cut it since there is no room for the scissor nor my hand Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 Ah, I see. Since I don't wear AP I didn't foresee that issue. Maybe "score and snap" could work? Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted July 25, 2011 Author Report Posted July 25, 2011 Gonna try that, i did it on some parts, ill try it there. Atleast I'll try to score it. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted July 26, 2011 Author Report Posted July 26, 2011 How does it look? I think i should trim some more around the eyes, or is it ok? I'm having a hard time getting the screw from the ears into the helmet so i can fasten it. It's like the screws are too short. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted July 26, 2011 Author Report Posted July 26, 2011 I got it sorted out, i just placed wrong screws at the wrong place Ears are on the helmet now and the only things that i need now is S-neck rubber and new hovi mics from Keith. Painting will be done as soon as i get some paintbrushes Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted July 27, 2011 Author Report Posted July 27, 2011 I got some paintbrushes today and I'm ready to paint the frown. But I'm unsure if i masked off a good part of the frown. I wont start painting until I've got a recommendation on what to do Better safe than sorry! Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 What I learned from painting my frown is that masking it didn't really help anything. It instead created a situation where I had to clean up the edges where paint met the tape, creating even more work for myself. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted July 27, 2011 Author Report Posted July 27, 2011 Ok, so i should rip it of and go free hand? Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 If I had to repaint a new frown, that's what I'd do, and what I've done the last times I've touched up on my ANH frown. So if you think it's not too scary, give it a try. Worst case scenario is that you spend 10 minutes with with some thinner cleaning up your mess. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted July 27, 2011 Author Report Posted July 27, 2011 Thinner wont eat the plastic right? If so i think I'm confident enough to do it free hand! But I'll keep the tape that is under the frown so i don't manage to drip paint on anything else Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 I've only used humbrol thinner, but it has not caused me any problems. Of course you're not supposed to leave it soaking the plastic. Just dip a tissue in the thinner wipe the paint off. Quote
TK-7980 Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 Sketch what you want the frown to look like with a pencil, then paint it. Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted July 27, 2011 Author Report Posted July 27, 2011 I decided to do it freehand, painted all the things that where supposed to be gray on the helmet. Pictures of it comes up tomorrow when the paint is dry Quote
1mpulseS0D Posted July 28, 2011 Author Report Posted July 28, 2011 Now the paint is dry and it looks good! I might have to paint a second time because at some places you can spot a little white through the gray. But the ears came out perfectly! And don't mind the little drips on the front top traps, the rubber goes over it so it is invisible Now to pictures! Tell me if i should get better pictures without flash! Quote
