Sonnenschein Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 I wanted t make myself some brackets, but I think I bought the wrong wire. I have 1mm copper wire, silver plated (It looks just sooo nice) But it seems rather soft. What wire shuold I use? I read "piano wire", but I don't have a clue where I shuold get "Klavierdraht!" Or is the copper wire still okay? Thanks, Karin Quote
SuperTrooper Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 Contact your local piano tuner, they should have piano wire on hand. Quote
sith_241 Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 (edited) Contact your local piano tuner, they should have piano wire on hand. Maybe some Nickel wire. You could always cold work the copper wire until it hardens up! The problem is if its not full hard copper it will just bend when any load is put on it. Edited June 24, 2011 by sith_241 Quote
Sonnenschein Posted June 24, 2011 Author Report Posted June 24, 2011 Thanks Terrell! You could always cold work the copper wire until it hardens up! Dan, I have no idea what that mean, lol! Quote
troopermaster Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 Off the top of my head I think it is 16 gauge (1.3mm) steel wire. Be warned, it is mighty tough stuff to bend. Quote

sith_241 Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 Thanks Terrell! Dan, I have no idea what that mean, lol! You would sit there and flex it back and forth until it got harder...like a paperclip. It would be not fun. Quote

TK-4510[501st] Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 I found piano wire at the hardware store too so you can look there as well.. Quote
LittleOne Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 (edited) why not use old coat hanger made out of wire... they are copper colored, seem the right size and strong enough to do the trick... i have tons of them...and will probably end up using them..but yes i have to get a bending tool too... or make one, i have a few ideas on that one... my 2 cents... link to a product Edited June 25, 2011 by LittleOne Quote
tk0000[501st] Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 Where does the bracket go exactly? Anyone have a pic? Quote
trooper18938 Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 You could also use bicycle spokes. 16 is a fairly thin spoke gauge and bends easily enough for this application. They are stainless steel, as well. Quote
TK8776 jgarrettg Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 What brackets are you Guys talking about? is this a belt thing? Quote

john danter Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 Didn't someone cut up a metal kitchen whisk? Did the same for my snowie brackets (very similar just a different angle) and it's perfect Quote
Rich330[TK] Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 @ Karin Try searching for "Federstahldraht" ("Hobby- und Architekturbedarf") Quote
Sonnenschein Posted June 27, 2011 Author Report Posted June 27, 2011 @ John and Joey, we are talking about the brtackets for the original strapping system; Okay, kitchen whisk, bike spokes, Federstahldraht. Lots to chose from. Thanks everybody! Karin Quote
