troopermaster Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 I think this neck seal is the same as the others above, just squashed. Maybe you are over thinking the ribs on these. I am thinking they are more corrugated ridges rather than hard lines. It is hard to tell from the photos to be certain, but they may not be like the ribs on the hero seals. Quote
troopermaster Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 You may already have something like this but this is what I would use to make the ribs on a mould. Okay, maybe not this exact model, but you get the idea? Quote
Sonnenschein Posted October 11, 2011 Author Report Posted October 11, 2011 That's what I have been thinking Paul! no hard ribs, but hollow. I am missing the correct vocabulary, but as I said before, I think they are almost shaped like a sinus wave. I think I just had an idea to speed things up. Thanks everybody! Quote
troopermaster Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 Well, not hollow, more like a wave or ripple Quote
Sonnenschein Posted October 11, 2011 Author Report Posted October 11, 2011 Yes! exactly! I guess I have to look up the meaning of "hollow" again. Lol Quote
iconoclasta_88[501st] Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 The more I look at the pictures, the more I think it is like this: Both the guy on the left on the two shot reference and the one putting off the helmet. What do you think? Saludos Quote
Sonnenschein Posted October 12, 2011 Author Report Posted October 12, 2011 Close to what I am thinking, but a little rounder and with less undercuts. Such undercuts would make it difficult to get out of a mold. Too bad I have almost zero drawing talent Guys, we are at the right track now! Quote
RS Prop Masters Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 Watching this with great interest guys. Quote
Veedox Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 My personal thoughts are the "stunt" neckseals were found objects. I think they were dive suit neckseals. They were both ribbed and smooth and they had a round bib that was sometimes shredded. I honestly don't think they took the time to make a mold for latex to make them. I think they custom made the seals for Luke/Han, but the rest of the stormies were purchased in en masse. Quote
Veedox Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 Also, those Sandtroopers are using something different than the Death Star troops. Quote
Sonnenschein Posted October 13, 2011 Author Report Posted October 13, 2011 Also, those Sandtroopers are using something different than the Death Star troops. How do you come to that conclusion? Of course they were found items. But until we find them, we will have to replicate as close as possible. Quote
Veedox Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 Their seals look much, much looser than the DS troops. Also, the ribs look bigger/fewer. Just my speculation, based on a couple of pics. I also assume they were improvised given that the Tatooine scenes were the first to be filmed and the first time the trooper suits were used. Given the changes made to the armor details, it would not be unreasonable to guess that they also made changes or improvements to the DS trooper seals filmed later in England. Just my opinion. I have no inside knowledge or proof to backup my claims. Quote
1970si Posted January 21, 2012 Report Posted January 21, 2012 Hey Karin, I was wondering how the neckseal was going?? thanks, j Quote
Marv Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 The more I look at the pictures, the more I think it is like this: Both the guy on the left on the two shot reference and the one putting off the helmet. What do you think? Saludos I'd be inclined to say the images almost looks like there are two ribs to a fold, so I guess I'm seeing the seal as being a little along these lines too. Quote
Sonnenschein Posted February 16, 2012 Author Report Posted February 16, 2012 Still working on various prototypes. But the coldest winter inEurope for over 60 years (up to -30° celsius/centigrade prevented me doing any latex work! I hope I have something to show soon! Karin Quote
troopermaster Posted February 16, 2012 Report Posted February 16, 2012 Looking forward to seeing a prototype Karin. Been pouring latex myself this past week. Finally got some pulls from new hand plate moulds and will update my thread soon Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted February 16, 2012 Report Posted February 16, 2012 Still working on various prototypes. But the coldest winter inEurope for over 60 years (up to -30° celsius/centigrade prevented me doing any latex work! I hope I have something to show soon! Karin Really!? This winter up here in Sweden is really nice compared to how it was last winter. I'm overjoyed at the mild weather. Seems like you got the short end of the stick this time... Quote
Sonnenschein Posted March 15, 2012 Author Report Posted March 15, 2012 Yeah, it was a tough winter! i made some tests with black dye, look good! and I'll soon have the pattern of the ribs ready. But it's going to be a HUUUGE mold, need to find some space for it. Paul, I like your new hand gaurds! Quote
Sonnenschein Posted April 16, 2012 Author Report Posted April 16, 2012 This is my third attempt to create the pattern. Think of it as a "study object" The ribs are 6mm in diameter, and 6mm apart. With 10 ribs, it should be 12 cm in height. What do you think? (sorry for the bad pic) Quote
Sonnenschein Posted July 9, 2012 Author Report Posted July 9, 2012 Just bringing this to the top. Looks like I'm close to a major breakthrough,,, Anyone got new pics? Quote
Sonnenschein Posted July 9, 2012 Author Report Posted July 9, 2012 Oh, there were some blu ray BTS screen shots in this thread which don't show up now. I can't find them on my HD. Has anyone saved them? Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Might be in one of the albums here? http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=10786 Quote
iconoclasta_88[501st] Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 Looking forward to read about that big breakthrough. Saludos. Quote
Sonnenschein Posted July 27, 2012 Author Report Posted July 27, 2012 (edited) Okay, here are some rough and dirty sample patterns. Which one is better? Once there's a consens, I'll start building to full scale (and expensive) mold. Edited July 27, 2012 by Sonnenschein Quote
