After reading a comment from a member on a sister board, I thought I would offer up this post. As the FX instructions in the FX kit are shall we say lacking, how did you build your armor?

I spent quit a bit of time researching and found various websites for suggestions and improvements to the kit. There should be a master list of links (I'll double check after I finish this). A did receive a good piece of advice, "measure twice cut once." You don't really think about it until you start trimming for a good fit and oops you cut too far or at the wrong angle.

Another good piece of advice, ditch the velcro that comes with the kit. It won't hold. Take a trip to Home Depot / Lowes etc and purchase industrial strength velcro.

Secondly, glue as much as you can for an overall stronger hold. Examples, I glued my forearms and thighs together. My calfs and glue the front and run a strip of industrial velcro down the back.

Rivets are great to hold the ammo boxe and plate on the thighs. Another small investment (or borrow one). Examples:

Also, I would personally recommend not using velcro to hold and assemble the suit (together). I experimented and implemented a snap system with webbing and elastic to wear the suite. Great tutorials and implemenation at http://www.tonybarnett.plus.com/tutorial.htm

Lastly, the helmet. This took me as long as the entire suit. I would build this last and take even more time. Cutting out and painting the teeth is a pain but as you will find from reading is a must for realism. Then adding a screen behind, paintining the chin, ear caps and then putting the whole thing together. This is a thread on its on.

PM me with any questions or add to thread.

Thx, Ed

Yes, I wrote an entire tutorial to add to the instruction set that came with the Armor FX kit. As I continued to write it, I quit saying in addition to and just wrote it out step by step. So some parts I say refer to the instruction kit.

The only thing I never completed was adding the pictures.

And for the email listed on that page, don't use it, or I will miss it in SPAM. Use this tk487@tk487.com

Thanks.

Thanks for the link Mattax - that's a great body of work and I've added it to the list of reference sites at http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=95

Thank you, I appreciate that. Hopefully the text write up will help other troopers in putting the Armor FX kit together. One day...dare I say...I will get around to adding the pics.
