DarthVeach Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 (edited) OK, I am working on a CAP-W helmet right now and I so badly wanted that droopy eye ANH look, but obviously it didn't come out that way. I think I can trim them a bit more and make it an ESB helmet. What I wanted to know is does anyone have any tips or tricks for cutting the eyes of a TK helmet a certain way to get the wonky look? I see the trim lines and I cut behind them, but I am guessing there is something more I should be leaving when I didn't... Conversely, I know that ESB eyes are cut wider, but I am sure there is a point at which you stop cutting. Any tips?? I know it is probably not as hard as I making it, but the helmet kits I used to get already had eyes pre-trimmed so this is still a bit new to me! THANKS!! Edited March 26, 2011 by DarthVeach Quote
NoVATie[Admin] Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 If you post a picture of your helmet I'm sure someone can show you the trim lines to get the look you're after Quote
DarthVeach Posted March 29, 2011 Author Report Posted March 29, 2011 Anyone? C'mon all you troopers, help a brother out! Ā Is it just an issue of cutting them further back from the molded cut line? Quote
TK-4510[501st] Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 Look here: http://www.starwarshelmets.com/original-ESB-stormtrooper-armor-helmets.htm Ā Study the trim on these helmets. Quote
DarthVeach Posted March 30, 2011 Author Report Posted March 30, 2011 Trust me, I have known about that site long before this one. One of my favorites! I have looked at LOTS of pics. But obviously on my first helmet, it didn't happen they way I thought. I want mine to look more like AJCG's ANH helmet or SW1 GINO HDPE helmet. Quote
DarthVeach Posted March 30, 2011 Author Report Posted March 30, 2011 For example Ā http://www.starwarshelmets.com/original-ANH-Stunt-Stormtrooper-armor-helmets.htm Ā The move along helmet looks as though it has a "lip" around the eye that is left after cutting. I am not seeing where that is on my CAP-W or my ATA, unless I cut it all the way at the back of the eye, which I think would be too far inset. Is it possible the bucks used back then had more shallow eye wells? Quote
TK-4510[501st] Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 Yes more shallow eye wells for sure. The lip you are referring to has already been cut off on your faceplate. As I have said I think your eyes are cut enough and I wouldnt do any more. Quote
DarthVeach Posted March 30, 2011 Author Report Posted March 30, 2011 (edited) That's what I am thinking. On my ATA, I need to cut even more shallow and uneven. The CAP-W will have to be ESB and the ATA will hopefully be a nice vintage looking ANH. Edited March 30, 2011 by DarthVeach Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 the ATA and CAP-w have deep eye wells. Ā the shallower eye well of the AP or TM lid can be left on, and cut unevenly to get that "quick and dirty" style cutout with a lip. Ā on lids with deeper eye wells, you can't get the lipped look that you're looking for. Ā best to just idealize that feature. Ā the eyes you have cut out look just fine! Quote
DarthVeach Posted March 30, 2011 Author Report Posted March 30, 2011 AGH! I don't want idealized, I want that LOOK! Ā Looks like my 3rd helmet will be a TM! Quote
JoeR Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 (edited) Most people in my opinion leave far too much material on the eyes and or the molds are wrong and the eyes are too small to start with. The film helmets seem to be cut back much more even though they have flashing left on. This makes a lot of replicas look odd. Only the TM seems to big enough eyes, the TE line, GINO etc all look far too small to me... Edited March 30, 2011 by JoeR Quote
sixxgunn13 Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 here is a few pics RogueTrooper posted on my build.. They are awesome.. hope it helps. Quote
DarthVeach Posted March 30, 2011 Author Report Posted March 30, 2011 THANKS Sixxgunn13! That will definitely help my ESB build. Was your helmet a TM? I can see the difference in the eye wells. Quote

The 'flashing' you see in the eye sockets have nothing to do with how shallow the eye sockets are. It is more about their shape. Ask anyone who has one of my V2's or V3's and they can vouch for it. Ā Also, I cannot speak to the other TE lineage helmets, but my helmet sockets are quite perfect and definitely not too small. I have helmet kits in the for sale section for anyone interested. Ā Ā . DarthVeach Posted March 30, 2011 Author Report Posted March 30, 2011 This helps my ESB a lot. Now anyone know what to do about my ANH? Quote

vecspeed12 Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 (edited) Just curious. What kind of armor is that in the background? Darth_Finger Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 That is a TE set in the background. Quote
