Hi all,

Waiting for my first bucket but i wanna try to reproduce an authentic helmet and that means going the extra mile to make it look like it was built from HDPE.

I was looking at the helmets on star wars.com and looking at the HDPE color under the helmets. Today i went to canadian tire to buy some color to paint my helmet when i get it.

I got some Krylon white primer and some Krylon white gloss but also as i was looking for the colors i needed i saw this can of color that looked a lot like the HDPE color form the photos i saw.

I bought a can of Krylon "Greek stone" that is the name on the can...unfortunately it is gloss but as TK4510 said they are less glossy than rustoleom according to him.

I was planning on putting some primer on then some of that greek stone color on...mask with latex the parts that have been chipped and then put on a few coats of white gloss.

Not being too much experienced with this i was wondering if this would turn out good or not? i know that i would probably have to put on several coats of krylon white to make the underneat color disappear but i don't want to end up with a ton of paint that may crack..

your thoughts?

maybe forget the primer altogether and paint it green then white..or do as i said above...

thanks again guys!

Nice repro Brother! i ll look for a can of that!

can you post more pics of your detailing?

I have not set my mind yet on what i want to attempt...move along comes to mind but that Dave M looks awesome!

did you remove some paint from the top too?

I'll take some more pics when I'm done detailing the paint chips. I sanded a few down a little too far, so the white came through. But I repainted them last night, now I just need to touch 'em up a bit, make them dirtier, etc. I did take some paint off the top, but not as much as the Dave M had. I have more pics here.

Awesome helmet 4702!! What is the name of that color of Rustoleum?

I think it's Khaki, it has a hint of green to it. I think it looks pretty good. The trick is going over it again with some green/black paint washes, and a very light grit sandpaper.

Yeah, painting is pretty rough this time of year. Luckily, we had a few warm days last week, and I was able to sneak in some spray-painting on my latest lid.

I have done a sandtrooper lid before, but didn't try to match the "move along" lid really at all. Although, it does have a fairly high brow.
