zsavk[TK] Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 Can anyone tell me if the ANH stunt TKs had a visible snap on the underside of the crotch cup? Ive seen some mention of this as being screen accurate. Basically should I use a snap plate glued to the inside or just snap iot through without? Quote
Quebectrooper Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) yes one in front 2 in back , 3 if you're dirty ...! http://www.tonybarnett.plus.com/anhref.html Edited February 22, 2011 by Quebectrooper Quote

Eric Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 yes one in front 2 in back , 3 if you're dirty ...! http://www.tonybarne...com/anhref.html i dont see it..? where on the site? great reference link though Quote
troopermaster Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 i dont see it..? You won't see it on screen either. The real suits had brad holding the crotch strap in place, not a snap. They had two male snaps on the butt plate facing inside with one female snap on the strap. So, that's the way to do it if you want to go screen accurate Quote
Eric Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 that's actually a part of my suit i'm working on to tune up for EIB... do you have any reference pics i could use? Quote
Sonnenschein Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 Interesting... Paul, what a "brad holding"? Couldn't google it... Quote
troopermaster Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 These are 'brads' I don't have any photos uploaded to show the screen used armour at the moment, but they are there for all to see in the LFL archive photos. Quote
Eric Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 i know what brads are... and i vaguely understand what you're talking about... just cant fully picture it... where's the LFL archive photos? Quote
tkrestonva[TK] Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 I didn't see the specific photo reference TM was referring to, but the photos themselves are here Quote
Eric Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 oh... he was referring to masons screen cap collection? i've got that downloaded... great reference for builds. but yeah, in that grouping i dont know of a shot that Paul was referring to. maybe we can find some behind the scene shots that'd help clarify this.... Quote
Eric Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 ok so 1: what's this a pic from? 2: there's a male snap built into the armor in the bottom of the cup, and two in the butt plate? 3: why two in the butt plate? 4: just a regular strap to connect them with three female snaps? 5: where does the chat come in? sorry, but that should cover everything. lol Quote
troopermaster Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 1. Pic is from the LFL archives of REAL stormtrooper torso armour. 2. There's a BRAD holding the elsatic strap in cod cup and two male snaps on the butt plate (note size differences between butt and cod fixings) 3. Two snaps allow some adjustment as there is only one female snap on the strap. 4. Two male snaps on the butt plate and one female on the elastic strap. There are old style 's' spring snaps, not modern camping snaps. 5. No idea what your talking about Quote
Sonnenschein Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 What Paul said I'm wondering... why did they use a brad (pitt) instead of a split rivet, like one the abs section? Did they riun out of rivets? Furthermore, could brads haven been used on the abs section aswell? It is the same principle... Quote
troopermaster Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 I think they used brads on the ab section too. I think split rivets are too heavy duty and very tricky to fit into the delicate armour. Quote
troopermaster Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 Here is a better photo showing the crotch area. Quote
R2Dan[TK] Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 I actually used brads on my torso as I couldn't source any split rivets... and I just swapped them out! Oh the irony... Quote

Maybe something like this could have been used on some of them then, http://www.makingmemories.com/Products/detail/deco-brads Quote
Eric Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 5. No idea what your talking about haha. thanks. btw the "chat" i asked about, was SUPPOSED to say brad. haha i couldnt tell ya how that typo happened. that really makes since though. i might actually look into doing something similar to my suit. i'm not really a "screen accurate" guy, with my AM i like the term "fan sculpt" haha Quote
carbonitekid Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 Paul. These the same Brads that were used in the lid assembly? Quote
troopermaster Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 You've been listening to AA haven't you I've never seen any original helmets assembled with brads. I have seen AA use the to build his replicas though, but I personally wouldn't use them. Quote
