TrooperVenger Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 Before I cut my forearms I'd like to know if it's ok to hape them taperted towards my wrists. I'm not blessed with huge, thick wrists so I'd like to taper the forearm armor so it's tighter at the wrist than it is at the top near my elbow. So is this an OK mod to do? More concerned with 501st eligability than anything. Cheers. Rick Quote
pandatrooper[TK] Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 Cut the return off the wrist and make them as small as you can while still allowing your hands to fit through. Quote
sixxgunn13 Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 You can also add foam to the interior to make it all snug. That will help! Quote
TrooperVenger Posted February 21, 2011 Author Report Posted February 21, 2011 (edited) Thanks for the replies. So it seems that there's no issue taking the arms in a bit at the wrists then. I would cut off the return edge....err but my armor doesn't have one. If I cut the back part of the armor at an angle, it'll come in nicely. I was just worried about clearence because I've seen alot of armor and it seems to be one size from elbow to wrist. I'll post some pics, probably tomorrow and you can see my progress. Fingers crossed I'll have this armor build done by next month...Time permitting of course. Edited February 21, 2011 by TrooperVenger Quote
sixxgunn13 Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 ummm, personally i wouldn't do it. try the cutting the return edge & adding foam. If that doesn't work for you then go ahead. I have a AP kit, and i have skinny wrists as well but if you take your time and fit it right it will work out. I had a FX kit back in the day but i made it work with little tweeks and I was a slim guy. Quote
troopermaster Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 Get them pretty tight at the wrist. The real arms taper a lot and flare out at the elbow. Quote

Overlap the armor and tape it together to get an idea of sizing BEFORE you cut more off. It's better to have to "work your hand through" the wrist when putting in on than to have giant wrist openings (if possible). Quote
john danter Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 Ricky, your armour is fine mate. You can try and do what I suggested to get it looking like ANH at the biceps etc, just make sure it doesn't pinch you when you bend your arms. the tighter it is, the more it will do it I wish I'd tapered mine out a lot more. you don't have a return edge at the wrist, and that's fine mate, there was very little at the elbow either John Quote
TrooperVenger Posted February 21, 2011 Author Report Posted February 21, 2011 (edited) Well nothings been cut or anything yet, so there's no panic. I'll try all methods suggested and see how things fit for the best. I'm finished tinkering with things for the night. Only managed to do the biceps. Now I'm having a sit down with a take-away and a bottle of beer. Do alot more tomorrow. Yay..Day off work. Plenty of time to tinker. Probably make some snap plates, do the forearms and if I can work out the 'other' shin issues I'll finish those off and if I have time, I'll do the thighs. Eric Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 i also use foam in my forearms along with many other sections. i.e. shins, thighs, biceps.... Quote
