GosHawk[501st] Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) Hey guys, Ok I got my AP seconds in a week ago. I started to use novus on it today and I've gotten a pretty good shin on it. However, looking at the buckets on starwarshelmets.com I noticed some of them are shinny to the max. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it like that? Or is it also due to the type of lighting that the picture was taken in? Should I just keep polishing it over and over? So here is my AP, all criticisms are welcome from build to shine. Thank you! Edited January 26, 2021 by gmrhodes13 photo updated gmrhodes13 2021 Quote
Rich330[TK] Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 The only real way to achieve the same shine of a screen-used Stunt helmet is with gloss spray paint. Looking at your photos, I think you have generated as much shine as possible by polishing alone and the helmet does look great as it is. Quote
pandatrooper[TK] Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) I think the lighting in photos has a lot to do with it. I do a wet sand with 1500 grit sandpaper, then Meguiars cut polish then some Novus polish. Heres an AP I built that I have shined Up. --------- Edited January 26, 2021 by gmrhodes13 link not working, removed gmrhodes13 2021 Quote
GosHawk[501st] Posted February 9, 2011 Author Report Posted February 9, 2011 Oh that looks great! How come I didn't think about gloss paint or wet sanding?!?! Guess that's why I come here. Thanks guys! Quote
troopermaster Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) T-cut really brings a shine to my semi gloss ABS armour. -------- Edited January 26, 2021 by gmrhodes13 link not working, removed gmrhodes13 2021 Quote
SW1 Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Great Paul i can now use that T CUT on my armour as well as my car Sweet Quote
matt black Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 That AP looks sweet with that shine. Well done. Do I need to shine up my AP when I have it built or is it still acceptable as it comes? Quote
GosHawk[501st] Posted February 9, 2011 Author Report Posted February 9, 2011 Unfortunately, I don't think t-cut is available to us here in the states Quote
pandatrooper[TK] Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Its basically the same as cut polish. Meguiars makes different grades. Go to Pep boys and ask for some. Swirl remover works but is less aggressive. Quote
snoberg Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 In my personal opinion, I would never paint my AP armor. One of the major selling points of AP is the fact that is does not require painting. That said, I novus the hell out of my armor and it looks very shiny. Quote
Femtrooper Julie[501st] Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 man, I ordered an AP regular in October, sent my deposit, and have not seen anything yet. No answer to my last email. I should've gotten a second Quote
