Ripcode[501st] Posted March 2, 2011 Author Report Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) Nothing exciting, but an update none the less! Man! These things are a pain to cut! For these cover strips. Are the corners trimmed to 45 degree angles or rounded off? Edited March 2, 2011 by Ripcode Quote
FIVE[501st] Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 Just got on the ATA list myself on Noel's advice and am REALLY liking the look of these kits. I'll be following your build closely trooper! I'm "Noel" btw... Quote
Ripcode[501st] Posted March 14, 2011 Author Report Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) Progress report as of 03/13/2011 (no pics): -Right and left shins cut out and tacked together. -Shoulder bells trimmed and sanded. -Drop boxes trimmed and sanded. Drop box backs trimmed and fitted. ETA: How do you guys get these things done so quick?? I need to find more time in the day to fit in time to work on this kit! Edited March 14, 2011 by Ripcode Quote
trooper18938 Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 I think you have to adapt the propmakers philosophy. Take yourself back to the 1970s and remember you only had a few hours per suit, or something like that. After your first build you'll have the learning curve, and the next one you'll not over-think anything, and just bang it out. Only if you're trying to replicate a specific helmet does the ultra-time consuming part come in. Quote
ctankep Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 If i ever get the curage i will try to assemble a TD Suit. Yours is going to look great! are you not afraid it will crack when you work on it? Quote
Ripcode[501st] Posted March 14, 2011 Author Report Posted March 14, 2011 If i ever get the curage i will try to assemble a TD Suit. Yours is going to look great! are you not afraid it will crack when you work on it? I am not afraid of cracking it. The ABS is strong and flexible. Since I am not going to paint it, it is making me paranoid as I can't easily fix something I FUBAR. Quote
Ripcode[501st] Posted March 17, 2011 Author Report Posted March 17, 2011 (edited) I took Friday off to work on my TK (or was that to recover from tonight....Hmmmm). I hope to get a bunch done! Will post my progress tomorrow evening! Edited March 17, 2011 by Ripcode Quote
Ripcode[501st] Posted March 21, 2011 Author Report Posted March 21, 2011 (edited) Some progress: Shins have the front cover strips installed. I need to install the back strips. The forearms are glued together. They need the cover strips. I started on the helmet. I have the eyes trimmed out and started on the frown and have the face and cap connected the way I like. I stopped at the hobby shop yesterday and got the Testor's colors I need. Edited March 21, 2011 by Ripcode Quote
cameron Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Progress update 02/20/11: I have these parts all trimmed and any return edges sanded. I can start adding the snap plates this week. I know for some this can be done quickly. I am picky, so it takes a bit. The button strip is junk. Sanded too much off. <_< The nice thing about ATA. I have his number, he likes me and replacement pieces are fairly priced! Next on my agenda is shins. my suit came with nuts and bolts for buttons Quote
Ripcode[501st] Posted March 22, 2011 Author Report Posted March 22, 2011 (edited) Right ear installed. These things are a #!%@&!! to install! What do you think? I think a hair too fat and too high up, but not bad (for a first build). I should have the other ear on tonight. Edited March 22, 2011 by Ripcode Quote
Ripcode[501st] Posted March 23, 2011 Author Report Posted March 23, 2011 (edited) Left ear installed! Well how does it look? Edited March 23, 2011 by Ripcode Quote
FIVE[501st] Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Yeah, the ears are a PAIN the first time for sure! You did a great job though I think! Does the left ear tilt forward? I can't tell... and I didn't know if this kit was meant to do that or not. Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 nice build! the helmet ears are a pain yeah! if you took more off the tubestripe area, you'd end up with a lower ear placement. as long as they're both basically the same, as long as you like it, then it's yours to be happy with! nice clean build... naatsirhc[TK] Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 Very clean ear trimming, nice. looking good. Can't wait for that box to come to my house Quote
Ripcode[501st] Posted April 6, 2011 Author Report Posted April 6, 2011 (edited) Shin shots. Yes, crappy cellphone mirror pics, but you get to see some progress. The knee plate needs to be cleaned up and then I will get that glued on. Otherwise the shins are mainly done! Edited May 17, 2012 by Ripcode Quote
Ripcode[501st] Posted April 7, 2011 Author Report Posted April 7, 2011 Oh and I'd like to give a shout out to ATA! ATA is awesome to deal with! Quote
