john danter Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 I wouldn't call it a derail dude? If I bought a lid and it cane back like that I'd be upset Now after seeing it's the way HPDE forms, makes sense Quote
tkrestonva[TK] Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 So the question I have for the experts is - why is the tear detail there on the screen-used helmets to begin with? It doesn't seem to add anything to the overall look IMO. Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 Maybe it's like a "signature" from the sculptor, Liz Moore. Something small that only shows when looked upon up close. Just a guess though. Quote

Brian may know the reason as it's so small it wouldn't have been picked up on screen surely? Especially when painted over. Unless the decision to paint came after the sculpt? Just like the TD lids evolved into normal TKs. More detail etc Quote
firebladejedi[TK] Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 (edited) Its there on the Dan Laws lid nowadays too ---------- Edited January 26, 2021 by gmrhodes13 link not working, removed gmrhodes13 2021 Quote
Rob .T .[TK] Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 (edited) I always assumed the marks had been made with a thumbnail ... that`s what it looks like on Simons original anh helmet , maybe it was a kind of "signature" ...who knows, maybe the original thought was that a small indent detail would go in there and cover the mark up . It certainly isnt a bump , just an oval mark in the original mould. The inside of Simons helmet picks it up nicely (as it would, seeing as it was formed OVER the mould).. It isnt a smooth little oval line , its jagged ..like a (long ?) thumbnail was pushed into the clay in stages , forming the oval. ----------- Edited January 26, 2021 by gmrhodes13 link not working, removed gmrhodes13 2021 Quote

TK-7980 Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 Is it possible the bump is just there to help pull in detail? Quote
SW1 Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 Perhaps it was one of Liz moore finger nails ? very intresting subject Quote
Scootch[TK] Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 It's obvious the thing was placed there to perplex a bunch of geeks 30 years into the future! DUH!! Quote
