sixxgunn13 Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 Hi guys Can anyone help me with a link or advice on getting my AP helmet to look like a bumpy screen accurate helmet. is there a tutorial? thx Quote
Sonnenschein Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 I'd take a knitting needle, heat it up with an lighter. Then push out little bumps from the inside. Quote
Quebectrooper Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 (edited) Rolf sold his for $700: ----- Who had the bumpy helmet ,in what scene? Edited December 5, 2020 by gmrhodes13 link not working, removed gmrhodes13 2020 Quote
Tray[TK] Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 really? You want it to be bumpy like that? Quote
RogueTrooper[TK] Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 (edited) Try using a variable temperature soldering station. Set it at the lowest setting, and push from the inside like Karin said above. Do some test on scrap before attempting to do this to your AP lid. Also you can get small sheets of ABS at most local Hobby/RC shops for doing your test work. Work slow and do not push too hard. http://www.amazon.com/Stahl-Tools-Variable-Temperature-Soldering/dp/B0029N70WM -------- Edited December 16, 2021 by gmrhodes13 link not working removed Quote

Rolf[501st] Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 I would buy a bumpy Gino, or TE line age helmet, and let the AP be smooth. Cheers Quote
stormtrooperguy[501st] Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 Sure... I'll trade you my bumpy cap ATA for a smooth AP Quote
Sonnenschein Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 Sure... I'll trade you my bumpy cap ATA for a smooth AP You're sure that would be a good deal ? Quote

Quebectrooper Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Ok let's try again, in what scene do we see the bumpy cap? Quote

I think you'd be hard pressed to spot them. Since the films, folks have got their hands on some of the screen used lids. horrid looking things, with flakey paint and all sorts of bumps and spots ---- Some say it was because AA used to make fish ponds using rocks etc, so his vac former had left over pieces of rock, creating the horrid appearnce on some of the stunt lids. Hope that helps? John Edited December 5, 2020 by gmrhodes13 link not working, removed gmrhodes13 2020 Quote
SamJ[501st] Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 (edited) EDIT: John did a much better job of explaining than I did. Edited January 10, 2011 by SamJ Quote
pandatrooper[TK] Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 I'd leave the AP the condition it's in and buy a second "bumpy" helmet. Quote
firebladejedi[TK] Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Remember not all the helmets were bumpy - some were nice and smooth................... Quote
GINO Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Remember not all the helmets were bumpy - some were nice and smooth................... Actually, that helmet has the bumps/texture as well. It is just not as prominent as some of the others but make no mistake, EVERY trooper helmet for ANH/ESB (with the exception of the 6 ABS hero helmets) had the bumps/texture present. There are some good screen caps that show the bumps/texture quite well. One scene that comes to mind is the one where mr. no stripes' helmet comes into the frame full size while he says "she'll be alright, inform lord vader we have a prisoner". . Quote
