Have a look at this little collage I made this evening.

I'm convinced the more I look the different TKs the left and right handplates are actually different?

ANH-handplates-2.jpg

Apologies for the poor quality as this was done in a rush but have a look at the right (flat top face) vs the left (angular top face)

Am I imaging that?

John

PS: Also Han's plates change half way through his scenes. In the Com room with Chewie vs the detention block scenes

You know there are different hand plates for hero and stunt... right?

Is that part of what you're seeing?

No I'm aware of that dude, but I think the left and right of the same style are different. Much like the rest of the suit is lol

The different 'style' as you say, has the star next to it in my pics. I don't mean that type, no

Haha... no problem. :)

I answered quickly before looking closely at the pictures.

Just making sure you knew that tidbit though.

I didn't for a long time.

Interested to hear form some of the "hand plate" experts. B)

all those handplates are latex, so there are bending situations making them look

different in shape. they are thin, and bend with the hand.

also they are not flat, they have a slight curve, and a bevel at the thumb line.

karin makes them flat, but with the thumb bevel, in type 1 and type 2 versions.

I made my own from my ABS handplates.

type 1 with the curve.

Yeah I know they're latex therefore flex, I wondered that too before posting, but it seems to be consistent on almost every TK I look at.

They don't 'seem' to be the same on the knuckle edge....

As you say iut could be the way they hold the gun, but have a look for yourself and look for shots where they're not holding anything and the hand is more or less at 90 to the camera.

No they aren't the same i wear ESB on my right hand and ANH on my left hand.

Ok that was not funny. Goodnight

What are you getting at John?

The hand plates are mirrored left and right, though I doubt they are perfect mirrored duplicates. Each side could quite possibly be slightly off from the other.

Is that what you mean :D

This feller has got his on the wrong way round. That was how I ended up gluing mine on wrong. Trust me to pick that as my reference picture!

Hi Paul

Make a cup if tea and sit down for 5 ;) and have a look at my collage above lol

Make a note of left and right hands

The difference is along the knuckles....

I 'think' that the right hand plate is a straight line

I think the left hand plate isn't and it bends down toward the little finger

Am I imagining it or can others see it too?

I did check and re check before posting so as not to make a tit of myself lol ;)

But....I've never seen anyone mention that Han's plates change either, and they do.

I think, lol

Sorry, I also noticed that Han isn't the only one to have that bicep shoulder bell strap hook either

Most TKs that get shot and throw their arms up have it

Could have been a stunt thing?

Considering that Mr. Muir is on these boards, has anyone thought to ask him what he remembers?

That's a bit funny seeing how the TK behind him has his handplates on correctly ;)

Cheeky! :P Why do you think I like ESB so much?

Here are some more incorrect handguards in my defence ... :D

Hah! Now I know :D

BTW, is it just me or is the swoop missing (being straight instead) on the shoulder bell on the trooper on the right? I'm at work so I won't try to find references to compare with, and I don't remember how much swoop it should be.

I might be wrong but I think they were added after Tunisia?

Plus are they really on stunt suits or just Han and Lukes?

well.... Han's right hand guards seems indeed a bit "flater" or straighter on the top.

I agree with Paul that they're mirrored, but not perfectly. Would there be any interest if that asymmetry is replicated? Or would it look "ugly"?

BTW: In the scene where they cuff Chewie, Hans has style 1 and the left and style 2 on the right hand...

Glad someone else sees it :)

My point is most TKs have a straight right knuckle edge

Left seems angular

Yes they're meant to be mirrored but I don't think they are perfectly. Like bells and biceps and all sorts on the flipping things :)

Have a look at lots of other scenes. Luke talking on the compad, Han chatting to the operator, realigning Chewies cuffs, sitting in the room with Chewie, in the trash compactor scene etc

All look asymmetrical. So it can't be the fact they're holding a gun. Which is what I thought at first

They may even have had several versions, of the same style lol

I'll shut up now :)

The swoop is not missing. It's only on one bell, not both (like some replicas ;) )

Ah. I never looked that closely before :)

Edit: Now that I look at pictures of my own TM armour I see that only the right one has a swoop :D
