I have been reading lots of information on these forums and have absolutely learned tons over the last few weeks. I am trying to buy armor for my husband. He is 5'10" and about 175 pounds so should be the perfect size to be a stormtrooper. I have narrowed my choices down to AM or ATA, but can't decide from there. I really like AP too, but don't think I can justify the extra cost. I know the AM tends to run bigger and I will want to get a helmet from somewhere else rather than the AFX helmet that comes with it. The ATA I should be able to use the helmet that comes with it and I think it will probably fit better without so many adjustments needed. I guess my only real reservation with the ATA is the HIPS material. I am concerned about how durable it will be and whether it will look as good as the ABS. I would welcome advice from anyone with either type of armor. Thank you!

Those are both really good suits. I have an ATA Sandtrooper and the armor holds up really well to regular trooping, kids hitting you and leaning up on walls and things.

Another thing to consider between ATA and AM is with ATA you will have to paint/polish the armor to get it looking good where as with AM it already comes rather shiny, you might want to do a quick polishing job when it's all put together.

ATA all the way - he's the perfect size. Or, there are ABS makers for TE derived armor such as T/MC and AP that are reputable. While there are small differences between them (e.g. dimples on the arms, belt, etc.) they are far smaller than the difference between TE derived & AM.

As a AM owner I am 6'2 260ish. I had to cut down the biceps, shins, and thighs. I would go ATA for hubby...

The fact that you're buying your husband a TK kit - and are here doing the research to find the right kit for him - gets you a "Spouse of the Year" award in my book. :D

As far as AM vs ATA, I agree - go with ATA. Just tell him not to play full-contact football in his kit. :P

But you can at least play laser tag :)

Thanks everyone for the advice. Contacted ATA and have a set on order. Now I will go back to hanging out with my Rebel friends (did I mention I am a Jedi in the Rebel Legion? Oops!), but you Imperials have been very helpful. This is a great group! Maybe I should consider coming over to the darkside too. You will be seeing hubby here once he starts building after Christmas.

Thanks,

Laurie
