1970si Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 Hey Guys, I found this link to a site that sells what looks like to me the same type of "Flower" rivet that was sometimes used on the closed side (left side) of the ANH Stormtrooper ab plate + lower Back plate of armor. Here are some photos. Here's a link to the website I saw them on: http://www.brettunsvillage.com/leather/parts/rivets.htm Jack Quote

1970si Posted September 21, 2010 Author Report Posted September 21, 2010 7/16 or 9/16??? That I don't know - I leave it to one of the experts to come in and give the correct answer. j Quote
geordietrooper Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 (edited) the petal shapes look wider on the ones you found Edited September 21, 2010 by geordietrooper Quote
R2Dan[TK] Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 I think the heads might be a little too small as well. Nice find anyway Quote
Obievon[501st] Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 (edited) If I'm reading this right I believe the dimensions are for the length only. You are only going through 2mm or less of plastic then webbing and a washer. The heads are the same for both sizes. Also by comparison on the fashion snaps (which is just to the left of the flower) head, it looks to be the same in size. 3/8"? then the rounded heads look to closer to 1/4". It is very close for sure. The basic design is still something you couldn't replicate. These are the closes I've seen to match. I can tell you one person who has the answer, we'll just have to wait and see if Paul TM would like to comment. Edited September 21, 2010 by Obievon Quote

geordietrooper Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 another option you would have to stick them over your pop rivet with a bit of white paint these could look ok maybe-ish lol Daisy Hotfix Rivet Quote
1970si Posted September 21, 2010 Author Report Posted September 21, 2010 The round rivets on my TM armor are 5/16 of an inch - or a hair bigger than 1/4 of an inch (which these "Flower" rivets are). Either these are just a little to small or the round rivets that TM puts on his armor are slightly to large. I can't answer that one without an exact measurement of both the original rivets used on a set of ANH armor. That being said - I think the pattern on the top is correct - maybe at one time they made this rivet was made slightly larger or maybe the guy who measured them for the website did it quickly and saw 1/4 of an inch when in reality it's really 5/16 of an inch. j Quote
R2Dan[TK] Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 if you look at the pic, the flower rivets should be larger than the standard ones. Anyway, we'll find out soon enough, I simply ordered some of those flowery rivets from that website. Even if they're no good, $5 won't kill me on the quest for uber-accuracy Quote
1970si Posted September 21, 2010 Author Report Posted September 21, 2010 I agree with you that the flower rivets are larger on the original - but without knowing the size of the regular rivet - these could either be too small or the correct size (and we are all just using too large of a regular rivet). I look forward to your post when you get them. I personally think ever suit did not have these type of flower rivets - the costumer just grabbed and used what was at hand when assembling the costumes - or they could have been replacements for rivets that got damaged some-how and fell out. I was actually looking for the regular type when I ran across these and just thought I share them with you guys. I know alot of people like these variations but I prefer the way it was probably originally intended to be assemble: To me these type of variations are like the Stormtrooper helmets in ANH that are missing the "Tube Stripes" or "Brow Trim". Thanks, j Quote
troopermaster Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 I checked my rivet heads and they measure 5/16" across and I'm pretty sure they are the same size as the ones used on the screen suits. The flower head rivets look to be about 3/8" IMO. Nice find though Jack Quote

TK bondservnt[501st] Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 any chance we could have more information on that? Quote
troopermaster Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 Vern, Can you be bothered to look for yourself or do you want everything handed to you on a plate? Just do what I did and search on ebay for them Quote
R2Dan[TK] Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 got the flower rivets today. They're definitely too small, but else they look damn close. Guess there must have been a larger version... Quote
Obievon[501st] Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 (edited) Okay I got to looking around the net and looking for the needle in the hay stack and came up with these. Might not be 100% but man are they close? It took a little while to get a sample but I messed with one and tried the aging effect. Would any one really be interested in these. All in all unless you had the picture right next to them I think they could pass. I'll let you all decide. What say You? Edited September 29, 2010 by Obievon Quote
geordietrooper Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 (edited) What say You? i'd say no too curved too many petals for me anyway Edited September 29, 2010 by geordietrooper Quote

Just do what I did and search on ebay for them paul, the reason I asked is because you are the most expert person to request that type of information. if I wanted to purchase a set from you, that probably would go on a plate, as I usually like to put small parts on a plate when attaching them. it's so much easier than having them roll around the table. Sonnenschein Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 FYI: This type of rivets is called "split rivet". Took me about 30 min in google. For our german speaking troopers: Die suche nach der deutschen übersetzung war schwieriger. Aber sucht am besten nach "Spaltnieten" oder "Biegenieten". Quote

TK bondservnt[501st] Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 what is your opinion paul of the most recent rivets shown? Quote
