Those look fantastic! Do you know how the paint will hold up? I assume even if it cracks and chips in some areas, it will still be authentic to the film look!

I've never heard of Loakes, were they one of the original suppliers?

Hi Terry thanks for your kind comments, not sure about how the paint will hold up but yes you are right i want them to be preety much screen used so the more paint chipping of the better, not sure about if the loakes where the original suppliiers iam sure Paul TM , Pete (stukatrooper), Mark ( firebladejedi) can let us know :D

Do you have any 'before' photos? You did a great job, and I know lots of people here are looking for boots when the usual suppliers are back ordered. Might be a nice alternative for them. Very nicely done.

Hi Ryan thanks for your kind comments mate , sadley i did not take any before pics but they were plain old black did not bother with any prep work like roughing the surface up just cleaned them in soapy water and left them to dry, i paid £15 for them and they were used ,for all the better in my eyes B)

Looking pretty darn sexy there mate :duim:

You might find that the Plasticote doesn't stand up to well to trooping, but Man,

do these Bad Boys look good B)

Terry

The original boot makers that were based here in England went out of business a long, long time ago and the Loake 290-B is the nearest boot available today that you can get that are very close to the originals. B)

Thanks Bill for clarifying!

I remember reading a post some where (might have been RPF or here?) where someone bought a screen used pair of boots, and they turned out to be Harrison Ford's TK boots. I think he had the maker / brand name, but like you said - they're probably long out of business.

Grand job there Steve, spot on mate. You did well on all counts,Make, price and finish.Just one thing i would have done before spraying them is to wipe the leather over with some Acetone. This would have given the paint a real good key.

Hi Pete cheers mate for your kind words , i think the hardest part for me was not over doing the weathering or makeing it look to fake, i know in the film they are well batterd and paint flaking of them, but i wanted to get the amount of weathering as per the armour, and why i did not ask stuka the stormtrooper doctor about the bonding to the leather , i guess to excited in the moment to get painting as they did in 1977 ;) , i will use the acetone on my next pair Pete never have anouth boots, well girls have there shoes  .

Love what you fellas are doing! The whole of the UKG will be scuffed and dirty with flaking paint before you know it. :D Awesome awesome work mate!

By the way we will have some ultra accurate offerings to help with the quest pretty soon, can't say much more for now other than it won't be ROTJ, but updates soon. ;)

Top job on the boots Steve!

They are going to look sweet on your mannequin.

Loakes are not the boots that was used originally, but close enough. The real boots are no longer available as far as I know.

Hi Steve,

Just wondering how the paint on your boots has held up mate?

I am looking to paint a pair of my own boots as well as a certain young mans this weekend, so it would be good to know if I am going to buy the plastikote or magix white :)

Posted

Hi mate , the plastikote has started to crack up and flake of in a lot of areas , but i did not use any acetone for the paint to adear to , i found that out after i spoke to Pete (Stukatrooper ) , plus i have never trooped them only been on the manaquine , so the cracking and flacking is when i have moved the old boy , so when i get the manaquine back from the museam i need to re do them , i hope that helps mate ;)

I thought as much :)

The boots I am going to paint had already been painted with white spray paint and they had cracked and flaked pretty badly. I spent a good hour removing the paint and they are now ready for a new coat, so i thought I would ask you about your boots as I remembered how good they looked when you first shown them off.

Looks like I'll be off down to cobblers fpr the magix tomorrow then :D

Yes Paul i think i might try magix next time alaways good to try differant brands , and thanks mate for saying how good they looked when i first showed them , Ahh also Paul the UKG will be doing a troop at the museam next year and i wonderd if you and Luke would be our guests would be great to have you there seeing that its your creation on desplay B)
