R2Dan[TK] Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Hi guys! Some of you may know that I flew over to London a few weeks back and helped both sskunky and JoeR to form the very first helmets on Joe's moulds. We had some great fun forming all day, and you may have seen the mock-up lid I threw together in the workshop. Obviously I wouldn't leave without my very own kit - I know a lot of you still think ROTJ lids stink, but these are real beauties! Remember, these come from moulds directly cast from an original, and untouched as well! These lids are something special really! Anyway, enough talk, here are some pics of my build so far, the next update will take a while, but this is enough eye candy to start with I'd say Here's how it started: And here's where I'm at now: Next to my TM trooping lid Now the waiting starts for decals, mic tips and bubble lenses... RogueTrooper[TK] Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Sweet looking ROTJ head holder Can't wait to see more Quote
gh05ty Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Very nice indeed, cant wait to see one in person Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 it's interesting how they look thinner at the temples on the horizontal axis. almost like it's a little taller and thinner than the TM next to it. it looks a little smaller? cool to see! Quote
R2Dan[TK] Posted August 23, 2010 Author Report Posted August 23, 2010 it definitely is slimmer - squeezed you could say. Wouldn't say it's smaller or bigger than most my other lids though Quote
Daetrin[Admin] Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 I think most think ROTJ are not beautiful as there are so few good ones. Here is an example that I think makes ROTJ look gooooood... I suspect with decent kits, others will find the *way* too. Quote
Billhag Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 You know what?, there’s two things that I think of when I see a ROTJ lid The first is the scene from ‘Young Frankenstein’ when Gene Wilder says “Hey there handsome! “ to the monster. And the second is what a friend said when ask what his newly born baby boy was like and he said “He’s GINGER!, has million freckles and he’s as ugly as sin, but he’s my boy and I love him to death and no one is ever going to harm him while I’m still breathing†So. like it or not, the ROTJ helmet may well be the ‘Banjo-playing-misshapened Ginger-step-brother’ of the beautifully flawless. grey grinned ANH creation but he’s family, and you’ve just got to love and protect him, …’coz he’s ours capice? Dan Great work mate,….Loving it!! Quote
ThayNerd[TK] Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 That's looking great Dan can't wait to see it finished! Quote
TK-4510[501st] Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) Dont wanna hijack this thread but I am working with Joe on his ROTJ decals. They will be screen printed ghetto style - by me and will be the beeeeez kneees if you know what I mean. These will be the most accurate decals I have ever made and they are made only for the CFO-ROTJ helmets. Its gonna be soooooo cool!!!! Edited August 24, 2010 by TK-4510 Quote
R2Dan[TK] Posted August 24, 2010 Author Report Posted August 24, 2010 Joe told me about it I even saw the prototypes. I totally need a set of those Mike! Quote
keith Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 Cool! Hope you don't mind me posting these.... Keith. Quote
Darth Voorhees[501st] Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Looks great Dan! Ive grown to appreciate the ROTJ buckets. Id like to have, in additon to my trooping buckets, an ANH, ESB and ROTJ on my helmet shelf one day. Quote
JoeR Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Awesome work Dan. Love the pictures of Keith's boys in the helmets. Thanks to Mike for his hard work on the decals and pushing the boundaries of accuracy. Joe Quote
TKCaleb Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Great work Dan! I really love the look of these helmets. True ROTJ. They may look ugly to others but there beautiful in my book. Quote
R2Dan[TK] Posted August 25, 2010 Author Report Posted August 25, 2010 I just cut out the eyes a bit more and gaffataped some TE-style bubble lenses into this lid to see what it might look like finished. The lenses don't fit too well, but you get the idea: Quote
JoeR Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Awesome Dan, it needs some weathering I reckon! Quote
R2Dan[TK] Posted August 25, 2010 Author Report Posted August 25, 2010 I'll weather it once I'm done with assembly and painting! Don't be such an impatient a very impolite person LOL Quote

AJCG Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 (edited) Dan, very nice helmet , I love it. For some people it migh be dificult to appreciate its beauty specially to ANH followers but do not get mistake, this helmet is a beauty!! I just only will suggest to make the black less glossy other than that it is looking great Cheers A Edited August 25, 2010 by AJCG Quote
R2Dan[TK] Posted August 25, 2010 Author Report Posted August 25, 2010 it's not gloss black, it's satin. According to Joe that's what the originals had on them as well Quote
carbonitekid Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 I find my self in somewhat of a dichotomy: Appreciating the beauty of something that is by its very nture as ugly as sin. Loving it. Quote
Turrican Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 If i look this helmets side by side ,the difference is nice to see. The softer edges on the RotJ and the slim look. Looking forward to the finished one. Quote
AJCG Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 it's not gloss black, it's satin. According to Joe that's what the originals had on them as well Do not misunderstand me I think it is looking great as I said before, it just an appreciation on my part.PM on your way Sir. Cheers A Quote
