Hmm, not sure why it has to conform to US ranks! Sgt First Class, Master Sgt etc

Interesting theory and some hard work done there.

To me it seems a reason to give some an ego boost, ie i am a higher rank than you, not my idea of FUN trooping I'm afraid.

Merry Christmas to all and best wishes for 2011

Hey G!

I'll have to research British military ranks. I think I'll only make trouble for higher ranking officers. That is my way of having fun. I'll tell them Vader is my grandmother's neighbor and they don't want to risk a choking. :)

Love it. I have only a few concerns.

1: I think I'll avoid using forum ranks or anything like that because they could change often enough to make re-painting a nightmare.

2: I'd almost suggest Dropping General and splitting the Lieutenants. It's more likely for the Lieutenants to be out in the field, but how many flag officers are really going to be in White Armor?

3: Are these the right ear or Left ear (ie: do these go from back to front or are they the same on both sides).

My thought with the last one is thus:

Should it look like-

[1000] (right-eye) (left-eye) [0001]

or-

[1000] (right-eye) (left-eye) [1000]

?

Awesome insights. Good thing I read these posts... will save me from making more mistakes than usual. :)

Just remember guys that this is all for fun. People are totally free to use it or not. The reason for the US ranks is that I was in the US Army is all, which is the same reason why much of the FISD branding has roots in the US Army colors, etc. as it does the SW universe.

Hi mate,

Fully understand and glad you mentioned the fun bit.

I fully agree and think it is good if it is used for that and I apprecite the effort you went to.

The US rank was actually a tongue in cheek comment as I am UK Forces, just keeping the British upper end up, but certainly no offense meant.

I just imagined for some reason this going official, I know what it likes to give someone a little bit of power all too well :-)

Regards

No worries Graham - you're certainly free to come up with a UK based one. It would be fun to see a UK inspired take on this :)

More power... question... obviously we have 2 sides of the helmet with stripes. If I based this on the left ear, the right ear would be flipped and show a different rank. Would these be mirrored for each side or is it the same way and you just have to recognize that the front stripe on one side is the back stripe on the other side?

For instance, the way mine are at this moment I have PFC on the left ear and WO on the right ear.

All fun set aside to help my own confusion.

AND... What about those hero ears that only have 3 bumps. Really? 3 bumps? :) I don't get why they would create 2 different ears for the helmets anyway. Especially such a small detail. That never made much sense to me.

Here is my $.02, I think they should read from front to back no matter which side you are looking at. I have also seen some people use blue stripes instead of black. If this is a screen accurate color could black be enlisted and blue be officer. This would allow for easier distinction so at least if you can't remember the order you know enlisted vs officer. The biggest issue I see is how they are determined. Agree with not making it what it says above your pic on here. I think it should some how be related to how involved you are both in trooping and on FISD. I know I'm relatively new but I have already trooped more than most do in a year, this doesn't make me an expert but I think that should count towards the ranks. I also agree this is just for fun and jest.

Hmmm interesting, shame this wan't carried through for the command staff to hand out to troopers, would be an incentive to become a more involved member of the forum :)

that's actually a pretty cool idea imho.. maybe it's an idea to start that up for those who are interested in it (that way ppl don't have to feel obligated)

Black is the only accurate colour, and in ANH there are no helmets know to date that has more than 1 stripe per ear, and they are always either on the 3rd or 4th bump, and always 1 stripe on the 4th bump. In ESB and ROTJ it's 3-4 stripes per ear, but they always start at the back moving forwards.

Funny topic, Mathias asked me awhile ago why I had no stripe, my answer was "Because I'm a noob and I'll put my stripe once I've done my 10th troop." and I happened to have earned that notch last weekend!

It's a cool idea but I never served in the military... One major regret in my life. That fact aside I would probably base my rank on my current lot in life. I have 51 direct reports and have authority over around 300 so I would place myself as a Captain but at the very least Sargent.

I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about since TAPATALK says this topic has been going on since 1969.
