This was one of Marks B-Grade lids (has flaws). I think it ran about $125 plus S&H (have to check on that).

It required a bit of bondo, sanding, etc... but in the end, it turned out great.

After the trim and fit:

As always, I gave the inside a coat of plastic resin material, to help make it more durable.

This shows the Bondo, and plastic resin materials that were applied/sanded to fill in the flaws.

Smoothing out the inside here. I add the paint so I can see the bumps better when sanding it, makes it easy to tell when it's smooth enough.

I just ordered a couple sets of Mic Tips from Keith, and some hand-painted style tube stripes from Mike. I also just finished hand painting all the black and gray details. Not my best work, but... could be worse I suppose. I can still touch it up a bit, but the the white paint turned out pretty nice. I'm still smoothing out the inside a bit, and need to give it one more coat of textured paint. Then I will add the lens material.

very nice work!

I believe that all the extra work you put into it makes it look really good, yet I've never felt

that lids need that much reinforcement and interior work. that is really going the extra custom step.

great work on the vocoder details. those sharp points inside the bumps really hit their mark well!

I'm not really a fan of the fifth tooth.. but yours looks very balanced...

shows what can happen when you paint up an AP...

sweet.

Thanks!

I love the AP lid. Something about it just looks more "stormtroopery" than one's casted from an original. Maybe it's the sneering eye look?

Yeah I re-enforce all my lids, with the exception of the VT build/review I just did. But it gives it a more authentic feel, gives the inside a finished look, and obviously makes it more durable.

This was the inside of my first AP lid (nearly finished here):

Well, I received my mic tips from Keith, and added a set of Mikes "Hand Painted" style tube stripes. So the outside is pretty much finished. I still need to work a bit on the inside however, by giving it one last coat of paint and some chin straps... it should be done. But it's turning out to be one of the best jobs I've done on a lid, if I do say so myself.
