firebladejedi[TK] Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 Sweet looking trooper Ā The only thing I noticed is your belt slipping down a tad, I don't remember did you fit snaps in the ab plate to keep it up in place? Quote
Rich330[TK] Posted September 4, 2010 Author Report Posted September 4, 2010 Sweet looking trooper Ā The only thing I noticed is your belt slipping down a tad, I don't remember did you fit snaps in the ab plate to keep it up in place? Ā Cheers, Mark. Ā Yeah, I do have snaps and they usually keep the front of the belt in place OK. What I did notice this time round is that the missus didn't tighten the belt at the back enough so it's all a little bit loose. Ā Been working on my ANH components this morning ... Quote
Rich330[TK] Posted September 4, 2010 Author Report Posted September 4, 2010 Nearly ready for ANH. Just need the extra drop boxes which that nice Mr. TM is sorting out for me ... Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Quote
Rich330[TK] Posted September 5, 2010 Author Report Posted September 5, 2010 Surgery time again! Ā I was comparing my build with these publicity shots (I just love the way the shoulders, biceps and forearms fit this trooper) and decided I needed some adjustments ... Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā I'll never get it exactly the same because my arms are too short but I thought I'd at least try and get it as close as I can. Ā The most obvious thing I noticed was that I had left my biceps far too loose-fitting (too great in diameter) and was also finding that they would ride up and stay high inside the shoulder bells. Ā The first step was of course to open up the biceps again, cut out a good 2-3 cm and add a little bit more of a taper. Ā Ā Ā I think I've got a lot closer to that close-fitting, tapered look I'm after. Ā Ā Ā Whilst the slimmer cut should already help the biceps hang a little looser, I also found that one problem was the wrap-around elastic on the shoulder bells .... Ā ... this stuff ... Ā Ā ... The elastic itself is quite strong and quite tight over the biceps. I also had it connected to snaps inside the bells which were getting caught up on the finishing strips on the biceps. Ā So, I ripped out the snaps and directly glued in (without snaps) some slightly more flimsy elastic. Ā Ā Ā I'll also add another snap to the elastic connecting the shoulder bells and biceps for a longer connection. Ā Hopefully I'll be able to get closer to that look I'm after. The proof will be in the pudding of the next test fitting I suppose ... Quote
Rich330[TK] Posted September 5, 2010 Author Report Posted September 5, 2010 The biceps are looking a lot better! Ā Ā Ā But now those forearms need some attention ... Quote
Locitus[Admin] Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 This photo of me from the weekend caught my eye and prompted me to re-tackle my thighs. Ā Ā I'd had a niggling doubt in my mind since I'd put them together that maybe I'd left them a bit too "roomy". This picture made my mind up. So I took off the finishing strips from the back of the thighs and opened up the seam again. I cut out around 20mm (the width of the finishing strip) on each and put them back together again. It seems to have got rid of the extra gap and my thighs sit nice and snug now. I also think I'm addicted to buildign armour too. It was so much fun to crack open the plastic weld and E6000 and have something to do again! Ā More photos as soon as I get my holster and suit up for clearance/EIB photos. Ā Ā I think I need to do this too, but I can't really make out how much you took off by the later photos. Like this one: Ā Ā Do you have any build pics of that surgery? Quote
Rich330[TK] Posted September 5, 2010 Author Report Posted September 5, 2010 I don't have any pictures of that I'm afraid. Ā In the end I took out 20mm (exactly the width of the finishing strip) from each leg (I cut it all out from behind the back seam). But as you can see, it's all been trial and error with me. I think the easiest way to do it is to tape the parts with an overlap and try them on. Then keep increasing or decreasing the overlap till you're happy and trim off the excess. Ā I've just finished re-doing the forearms which now means I have built and re-built every single part of my armour! Ā I was just very conservative when I trimmed and glued all the parts first time round. Still, I suppose it's better to build it too big and then trim down rather than cut too much and leave it too tight. Ā It's one of the things about the TM kit which sounds pretty daunting at first when you hear it has no seams or trim lines. In the end though, it makes it the perfect kit to trim to size. Quote

Yeah I did my thighs like that, but stopped where the back of the thighs curve. Had I gone further and trimmed more I'd gotten a "wall" and not the curve, as one part curves upward and the other downward to meet. If that makes any sense. Ā Since I used abs-cement and quite a lot of it on the inner joining strips I imagine it to be a bit of a challenge removing those. But the outer strips are E-6000 so that will be easy. Quote
Rich330[TK] Posted September 5, 2010 Author Report Posted September 5, 2010 Ā Ā Since I used abs-cement and quite a lot of it on the inner joining strips I imagine it to be a bit of a challenge removing those. Ā Yeah, I did the same. So each time I trimmed more out, I had to cut out at least the width of the inner strip. Luckily I always needed to remove at least that amount. Ā The outer strips with E6000 come off very easily. I just stuck a flat screwdriver underneath and worked it alng the seam. The excess glues rubs off and leaves no residue. Quote

Ā Ā Do you have a picture of the inside of your thigh? It'll help me visualize how much you had removed. Ā I think we are about the same hight and build so this is about as close to how mine should look like as I can find! Quote
