slave1pilot Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 I'm sure this has been covered countless times already, but I really can't find what I need to know. I'm 5'11 210 lbs at present I can lose the first 10 lbs no problem. The next 20 are very hard but not impossible. Am I wasting my time even trying? Can I make it work at 195 lbs without shimming and making it look like crap? Does anyone know the dimensions without shimming? Quote
Dmian Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 Well, I'm 5'9 (1.73 meters) and around 160 pounds (around 73 kilos). If I eat a lot, the AP barely closes. When I'm more thin (most of the time, I guess ) and I get closer to 150 pounds, it fits just nice. It will really depend on your build and waist. You can see pictures here, for your reference. Quote
slave1pilot Posted April 25, 2010 Author Report Posted April 25, 2010 That's what i was afraid of. There is no way on earth that I could lose 60 lbs. Nor would I even want to try. Thank you Your suit looks fantastic BTW Quote
FIVE[501st] Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 I'm 5'11" and 200lbs right on the money and the TE2 fits like a charm. I had to shim one calf a bit... but the sides close and everything. Maybe I'm a small 200lbs. (people think I weigh less when they see me... if that matters) Quote
TK-J Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 (edited) Hey Nathan, 6'and 195 shimmed AP Without shims there is about 3" of gap. Edited January 9, 2021 by gmrhodes13 photo updated gmrhodes13 2021 Quote

Thank you Your suit looks fantastic BTW Thanks! You can always shim it, and I believe it can look good on larger guys. But it looks like the original stunts using the armor where very thin. And also, the AP is a bit smaller than the original. But There's people taller and bigger than you using AP, so don't worry. Quote
bluehickey Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 Going by your size, I'd suggest getting AM armor, it will fit much better. Quote
Darth Voorhees[501st] Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 (edited) im 5'9" and 215lbs and i have AP armor unshimmed. Its all the way your trim it my friend. Darth Voorhees[501st] Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 plus, your a little taller than me so i think it would workout even better! All i added was side plates. Its a little snug, but once its on im comfy in it. Quote
slave1pilot Posted April 25, 2010 Author Report Posted April 25, 2010 Going by your size, I'd suggest getting AM armor, it will fit much better. Ugh. No thank you. I ask about the AP armor due to the possibility of me obtaining a set. I've been working some deals and doing painting work in exchange for the armor so... the AP armor is most likely what I will have. I just wanted to know if it would fit, not suggestion for other armor. Thanks anyway. Quote

Also, you pull off an awesome Fett, if you can do that, you should have no problem fitting an AP kit. Quote

Daetrin[Admin] Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 By shim - do you mean the side gaps or any other part? At 6'0" I was 190lbs at my heaviest and had to trim the ab/kidney on my TE2. At 175lbs I had to trim every more. Only owning TE2 and not AP though, I'm guessing that depending on where you carry your weight, 200lbs is probably the max you can go w/o shimming the sides. I will say that I had to shim the shins and left bicep though, regardless of my weight. On my TD, I swapped out TE2 shins with RT shins and that worked out w/o the need for a shim. Lou - btw you look mahvelous Quote

ajax407[TK] Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 My 2 credits: I say go for it. I feel your pain though... I'm 5-11 206 on a good day. I am getting an ATA kit and may have some work cut out for me. Good luck! Quote
Stutz[501st] Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 I'm 6'1" and about 185-190 and the only thing I had to shim on my AP was the ab/kidney, and that only by about 2" per side. Everything else fit me fine with no shimming. If you are generally proportional, there should not be any problems. In my opinion, it has a lot to do with where you carry your weight. So to give you a little more concrete data to work with, here are my measurements and what I had to do to each piece. All measurement taken at the widest point. And sorry ladies, I'm taken. Keep in mind that I'm doing mine ANH style, so there is always some trimming involved to do the butt-seam, finishing strips. And in all cases, I started with actual trim lines molded into the armor. Chest: 40" Fits fine, but there will be a little bit larger gap between the shoulder bells and chest than I would really like (i'm being really picky here). Abs (not waist): 36.5" As I mentioned, I added a 2" shim on each side. Looks fine though. Thighs: 22" Fits great as is, not too loose, not too tight. Biceps: 13.5" Actually had to trim some off to get a nice tailored fit. Forearms: 11.5" Fit fine, no problems. Calves: 15.5" Fits great, not too loose, not too tight. Hope this helps! Quote
slave1pilot Posted April 25, 2010 Author Report Posted April 25, 2010 Stutz. you measurements are very helpful. I carry my extra weight around my gut like a good post-middle-aged man should All of your measurements are really close to mine except the chest and gut. I have a 42 inch chest and we'll just not talk about the belly. I have no issue with "shimming" the sides, but that's not what I was referring to. I didn't want to add shims in between the thighs and such and then put a strip over the seam. I will add the strips of course but I didn't want it to be a 3 inch wide strip, ya know? I'm just gonna make it work. After all of my wheeling and dealing is done, I should be able to get the AP set for about $200 out of pocket. So, it's well worth the effort. Quote

That's a great deal for the AP kit. I'm sure you can make it work no problem! Of course, the AP is a challenge even under the best of circumstances, but that's part of the fun! Quote
TK bondservnt[501st] Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 I wear AP at 5-11 and 210 lbs. I shimmed the AB plate with 2.5 inche plates on AB and kidney. left side is riveted to both ab and kidney. while the right side is velcro/snap shims. The belt needed to be a little longer as well at 41" long. I made the shims slide inside of each other so that as I gain or lose weight the belt takes up or leaves the slack needed. the chest and everything else fit me just fine! I lost and gained back my winter weight, and now as summer approaches I'm losing again, and still the armor fits. Quote

The Thighs, Biceps, Forearms, and Shins I can fit into without any shims. My problem is my waist as well. I will have to shim my waist. My other problem is trimmimg the tops of the thighs so I can walk in the armor. Andy Quote

Shooter Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Yeah, I think AP has kinda got a bad rap for bigger guys, I'm VERY happy with mine. Here's my measurements: 5'11" - 200-210 (depending on my diet of wings and beer Chest 44" Abs - 36" Waist 38" Seat 38"-40" Thighs - 28" Arms - 17" Here is a link to my build: http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=9735 I've since secured the belt and lowered the chest plate so it looks a lot better. My only beef is that the chest plate could be bigger and I could use bigger shoulder bells. I had to shim the biceps and overtrim them, there's about a 3.5" side gap and a tapered 5" gap on the back thighs. Hope it helps, Matt Quote
Sonnenschein Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Maybe we could start a master list with as many measurments as possible. So we could see "who fits in what armor", what to shim etc... Karin Quote
