Hitman's RMQ Build
kwdesigns replied to thechosenhitman's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
It's looking good!!! You will want to trim down the thickness (return edge) on the side connection plate that you glued to the back. This will make it fit better and be WAY more comfortable. Like this... Kevin W. -
Concept Armor Designation on 501st.com MQ or TK?
kwdesigns replied to TMacken's topic in Concept Armor
Ya I have a feeling this might be one of those things that just takes some time. Once we have a bunch more Concept troopers, a few Concept Boba Fett, Darth Vader etc. Then we will see a huge growth and need for all this. I'm not in a hurry it will all work out in due time. I'm sure once we see the new troopers from the new Star Wars movies, that I predict will look familiar to McQuarrie's designs, then we will have the MQ designations for sure. LOL Kevin W. -
Concept Armor Designation on 501st.com MQ or TK?
kwdesigns replied to TMacken's topic in Concept Armor
Now I'm confused. I thought it was settled back in Nov 2013 that MQ was the designation for the Concepts but that it when remain on the FISD for now. I'm hopping that one day www.rmqconceptcrew.com can become the official detachment for all of McQuarries fine work. July 19, 2013: LMOs Damian Jorgensen (TK-826) and Ken Seymour (TK-8995) officially open the "McQuarrie Concept" Stormtroopers as Legion-eligible costumes. They are assigned an "MQ" designation, and moved into the First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment. Kevin Weir (TK-812) created the first sculpts, and UKG CO Gary Hailes is the first approved Concept Stormtrooper in the Legion as MQ-2739. Wow this turned out great!!! I would suggest that you cut a bit more off the handbacks to thin them out. To look more like this.. Kevin W. -

Sorry I have not been on FISD for a while... Wow Jason you have made a great start to this. I am glad you were able to figure out what parts go where. I was going to also give you the link to my Photobucket but Seeker just did so ya use the images I have there as a guild. I also have assembly tips step by step up on www.rmqconceptcrew.com Log on and request access. FWI to anyone else putting this armor together: Bondo is a must! You need to make the joint parts seamless before you paint it. I also have the choice of paints shown on rmqcc. I have a bit more info to add on the helmet but you have a great start on that too.. Well I have started sculpting some of the parts.. I'm giving the inner part of the Bicep a bit more of the TK look rather than what is on the GG Statue. Having the slight flare at the top near the armpit will be more comfortable. And making the inside more flat than curved will also help with the comfort of your arms when wearing it, because of the bulkiness of where the Chest and Back connect under the arms. I do NOT plan to add the thumb print indention. LOL Forearms & Biceps ----- Shoulderbells ------ Kevin W. -

I have an idea on what I think the back of the legs could/should look like. In the CRL that Liz wrote up (before the GG statue was released) she thought maybe the back of the legs would look more like the Movie Clones. Although some images in the Comic show very little to almost no shots of the back of the legs, it is some what suggested that they might have looked more like the TK's. In some comics drawing a little bit of a TK looking knee is shown, also the action figure was leaning in huge favor of looking mostly like a TK. When I look at the GG Statue at the front view I see the upper half looking like a TK and the bottom half legs looking like a Clone. And on the back side it is reversed with the upper half looking like a Clone and the bottom... Well that what makes me think the back side of the legs should look a bit more like a TK and bringing balance to the over all look. This will benefit the ability to put the lower legs on. With the backside of the calve having the look of the TK this will allow them to open up at that spot with an overlap to clam-shell closed. I do not think an extra strip needs to be glued on like the TKs but having a thin step like I did on my RMQ armor makes the lower legs a wearable part. And completing the look up the thigh towards the butt, visually makes sense to me. Again the strip up the thigh will not need an extra piece of plastic glue to it like on the TK's. In fact the thighs will not open on the back. The line line will be part of the mold. The thighs will assemble (glue together) on the sides like a clone. I do not feel the back of the legs should look like a Clone. The rounded out cup shape in the back of the thighs pulls away from the over all look and will not give that stream line smooth fit for a female. And let me be the first to say that making the Spoon entry on the back of the caves for the clone style legs is a major pain to assemble. Here is a Photoshop images I made adding thin raised lines down the center backside of the thighs and also down the calves.. Sorry it not the best image. ------- I would like to know if anyone apposes to this idea for the back of the legs to let me know ASAP as I plan to start on this very soon, possibly next week. Ralph McQuarrie's Concept Stormtrooper "Helmet(s)"
kwdesigns replied to kwdesigns's topic in Concept Armor
Sorry for my short previous short reply without giving much of an explanation as to why an overlay would not serve of good purpose. I realize that this particular painting of RMQ's has what I would call a "squashed looking face and tall dome". My intention of this helmet sculpt has been to make it wearable and scaled it to look good with my RMQ armor. So I had to make some important decisions. The Most important decision was, I hand to elongate the face to make it wearable. Let me explain more... The line of sight is the most important thing on a helmet, so I have to start with the fundamental measurements of a persons head. The location of the eyes being the starting point, then the distance of the dome and lower jaw. If I would have sculpted it to look just like RMQ's painting my helmet would not serve its propose of a functional wearable piece. If you were to put an exact replica helmet of his painting on your head, your line of sight (eyes) would be at the brow area of the helmet. Or if you but a ton of padding at the dome to line up your eyes, your chin and possibly your mouth would hang out the bottom. So when you look at my sculpt or finished RMQ helmet, you need to imagine his painting slightly elongated in the face. And of course that would change some of the angle such as the frown. Trust me a ton of thought goes into my work. Kevin W. -

Thanks but sculpting is done and production has started. I am very satisfied with the final outcome. Trust me it looks a lot better in person when it's all painted and put together, especially when your wearing it with the armor. Kevin W. -

I plan to also make her helmet because it is different than the classic TK. Total cost wise I can't say for sure until I am near the end. But you look at my other full armor kits as examples they range between $400.00 - $675.00 USD. The helmet I also plan to vac-form like a TK so price could be around $150.00 - 180.00 USD. But please do not hold me to this price it is way to soon to know for sure... Kevin W. -

Thanks very much for the Tip. I did flair out the base to help with that. Some webbing still happens but for the most part it will either be cut off or covered by the dome. I will be posting up how to assemble pic that I took while assembling my helmet. I did show how to fix webbing if needed. I am making up some kits right now. Kevin W. -
