  3. Alright, this I'm stumped on. If I line it up properly (first photo) then the raised ridge on the right side doesn't match the left side ridge. On the other hand, if I try to line up the raised ridges evenly, then the entire half is off (2nd and 3rd photo). Thoughts? Sorry, still trying to figure out the photo thing. It won't let me post more than one at a time. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
  4. Good call, thank you. It feels better now. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
  5. I've been out of town for 10 days for work. Combine that with having to tear apart and redo a few failed glue joints and I'm only just now getting around to wrapping up the arms. I think they turned out really well. The real hard part was trying to focus on grown-up business conversations when all I could think about was getting home to wrap up the cover strips.[emoji2] Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
  6. The forearm conundrum appears to be cleared up. I spent some time and a little TLC with the heat gun. Booth halves had more of a hard oval shape, but by coaxing a rounder shape, and also slightly angling the inside trim edge, I think this will work. I'll post a pic of the outer trim in a day or 2 once this seam is dry. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk

  8. That's a very helpful graphic Joseph, thank you. And good idea on the less visible strips Caleb. This should help a lot. Doing a quick fitting of the calves and they fit like a glove. It looks like the forearms will be the only area that are too tight. Also interesting to note that this armor has mobility cuts already in the mold. Not sure I'll need them, but it is what it is. 9. I should probably try to contact the GML in the San Diego area before i start cutting then. Is that kosher? The top picture is the size of the cover strip cut to the size that I would need it to be to make the forearms work, shown against the bicep (since it would match the forearm strip in width). The second pic compares the cover strip to the size of the overlap construction bit. They are roughly the same size, so my uninitiated brain would assume that this cover strip size should be ok. 10. Your ridges don't seem to be as extreme as mine might be Caleb, but nice to know I won't be stuck with an ABS tourniquet around my forearms.
  11. Awesome. Thank you.
  12. That's great info. Thank you. I guess the expanded question is, does the raised area (for overlap construction) need to be covered by the cover strip or is an extra ridge as show in the photo acceptable? It seems like that would really limit the customer base for MC armor since any increased size at all would require an unusually large cover strip. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
  13. Ok, I'm stuck. The MC armor is designed for either overlap or cover strip construction. Of course if you need to go bigger, there is a large ridge that the cover strip won't cover, or the cover strip will have to be gigantic. The forearms are the first parts that have been too small for me. Help? Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
  14. I decided to hold off on strapping until I can study up on methods a little more. Instead, I'm starting on the shins. In the 90s, I installed glass for a living, so I'm no stranger to scoring and snapping. I dug to the bottom of my tool box and found my old glass pliers. Much to my satisfaction, they work very well for this kind of work. Also, can you tell that I'm into overkill? And Harbor Freight for that matter. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
  15. Wrapping up a productive weekend with the torso all trimmed and sanded. How does this look so far? I couldn't have done it without all your help. Having a frame that is just right for a 70s TK was a big help too. Cal's trim lines wouldn't work great if I was 10 lbs heavier. This week I'll get to strapping this up since I'm certain the blue tape isn't in the CRL. I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions since this is entirely uncharted territory for me. Cal included a kit, so that should help a little. Onward. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
  16. Awesome. Thanks everyone. It's good to have some coaching to know when to shut off the OCD side of my brain.
  17. Getting ready to trim the chest, but I'm not liking the neck trim line. It doesnt show very well in the photo, but it is rather lopsided. Is that one of those irregularities that "gives it character" or does it need straightening? If so, do I free hand it or is there a mor reliable method? Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
  18. Here it is with the butt plate. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
  19. So I drilled a relief hole and cut myself a notch. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
  20. Perfect. Thank you!
  21. Day one has been a trim fest. Since Cal has penciled in the trim lines, it's been pretty straight forward. The one hiccup I've had so far is the left side where the kidney and ab plates come together. If I trim where the trim lines are, the bottom will not line up. I know the CRL says that these 2 plates must align at the top, but it doesn't say anything about the bottom. Is this normal/acceptable? I know these kits are not symmetrical, but the right side doesn't have this issue.
  22. Good stuff. Thank you both.
  23. It's BBB day in the Combover home and there is much rejoicing, especially on a 3 day weekend here in the US. Undoubtedly I will have a ton of questions. First, where to start? Does it matter? The only advice I've seen so far is to start with the ab buttons so they'll have time to dry. What else?
  24. I hadn't seen that supply list before, so thanks! Good stuff there. As for the AM armor, it fits well, but looks very bulky on my 165 lb frame. Particularly the chest plate. Maybe I can tweak it. My long term plans include a TD build, so maybe if I'm successful I can just convert one of the two. Otherwise, I'll probably just sell the AM. I'm keeping the helmet though. I had Dave completely deck out the inside with all the goodies. It is very, very cool.
  25. Hello everyone from east San Diego County. Last year I built a Tie Pilot and a Gunner kit from Walt. They both turned out ok, but I ran at it without seeking much help and neither turned out as well as they should have. Since that wasn't a great experience, I bought a commission ANH stunt TK build from Dave's Darkside Depot. Dave's work was as amazing as his reputation held up, but the AM armor just doesn't look right on my regular stormtrooper sized body. So I got wise and came here to hopefully get it right. I have a Moncal kit that ships this week and I I'm ready to rock. I'll start a build thread as soon as it arrives and rely on your kind and competent input as I go. Onward and upward.
