Hi folks, Stepping away from the ab buttons for a moment, please could someone give me some guidance on the trim line for my hand guards? Right hand Sent from The Empire -

Hi Jonaton, Appreciate the reassurance. Below is a pic of the original buttons I was sent. You will see the 4 button strip is a lot whiter and the rectangle buttons just a shade whiter (but not as bad depending on the light). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Thanks, Glen. justjoseph63 , here’s a photo. In certain light the difference is a bit more apparent. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Hi all, I’ve hit a bit of an issue. When RS sent my build kit, unbeknownst at the time, the ab buttons were vacformed from a whiter shade of ABS (a lot whiter in fact). I have only come to realize this when I’ve come to stick these to my ad armour. I’ve been back to RS today and they have provided me with a new set but these are now a shade darker. This is really going to bug me and I’m hoping this is a common enough issue that there is a solution. I’ve read online various ways of whitening ABS so I’m hoping there is a process I can follow to gradually match up the shade until they’re near enough the same. I’m hoping of course so any advice is welcome. Thanks, Tim Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Hi Jonaton, Thanks for the extra detail. Just sp you’re aware, the ‘material’ you highlighted with the blue line is just a bit of tape that came unstuck while taking the photo; sorry if that caused confusion. I’ll be measuring out from the red line you added and aware not to trim the return edge to allow for the screws. On a separate note, late last year I was diagnosed with Autism. Whilst I’m ‘neuro-typical’ in most circumstances, any areas around detail like this cause me to overthink. With this in mind, you will probably see me ask more questions clarifying advice, get overly-focused on ‘detail’ or request information in a certain way. This is only so I understand information better and to have it make sense in my own mind (which is probably a reason why my build has taken so long). I just wanted to let you and others watching my thread know just to give some context on why some of my responses may seem different to the typical user. Thanks in advance for your (and anyone else’s) patience. Tim Sent from The Empire -

Hi Jonatan, Thanks for the spot on the alignment. I think what may be deceiving with the image on the ab side is the return edge is giving the appearance it’s higher up. That being said, I’ll certainly check again and include the extra millimetre @gmrhodes13 in regards to the sniper knee, your suggested trim line shows to take more off along the top (just checking). Also, looking at the example images you provided, it looks as though it’s trimmed like the below…this may be a trick of the camera so again, just checking and not wanting to sound like I’m contradicting your advice. And just a clarification on the Han snap placement, the 10mm measurement is taken from curve in the armour, not the very edge (hope that makes sense). I have redrawn this below to clarify. If this is wrong, I’ll understand better if you’re able to draw where you think it should be as you did the sniper knee. Thanks to you both again for taking the time to help me with this. Hi all, Just a few things I want to check. 1. I’ve already started trimming the sniper knee but please could I get confirmation that my trim line is correct 2. Check on placement of hole for snap fitting on right side of ab 3. Check on placement of holes for the rivets attaching kidney armour/ab armour 4. And as a final question, what drill bit size should I use to make the holes? Thanks everyone, Tim Sent from The Empire -

Thanks, Glen. Although screws aren’t a requirement, I like to seemingly replicate the screen accurate armour, including the exterior screws (painted white). Obviously, I won’t be adding the strapping bars, it will just be the screws for show. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Hi everyone, So it has been a good while since I last posted on my build thread so let me bring you all up to speed with where I am I’m the journey and why it has been so long since my last post. While progress has been slow as I’ve been taking my time as well as being busy with other interests, I’m actually quite far ahead now and my confidence in the process has definitely increased. All pieces are trimmed and I’m part way through adding the cover strips. I’ve had great help from my Armourers at UKG to get me to this point. Sadly though, my original Armourer, CableGuy Dan, passed away not so long ago (may he rest well in the galaxy) so I was assigned a new armourer who has been great. So where am I now? Well, as mentioned, I’m adding the final cover strips to the limbs and I’m now looking to start piecing together the body armour. I’m going to be going for the snap setting method as outlined in Joseph’s guide and waiting for the materials arrive. My question at this point is probably an obvious one; should the exterior of the armour ‘mimic’ the original suits e.g. the small screws on the chest plate that would have held the original strapping. If yes, what size screws do they need to be? looking forward to the help you can all provide for the next part of my build. Thanks, Tim -

So I’m at the end of the helmet build road (I think). This has been a lot more difficult than anticipated but enjoyed the challenge. I certainly don’t think this is perfect (but then again where they in the film?) and there are a 101 things I’d change if/when I do this again but I’m pretty pleased with the end result considering I’ve never done anything like this before. FYI, I’ve ordered a spare set of decals as I’m not happy with the left tear. Because of the contours it kept creasing. After multiple attempts the decal started to get more creased so I’ll be replacing that. I welcome your feedback…be gentle [emoji846] -
Hi all, Does anyone know if there is an effective way of reducing or clearing the old glue on my shins before I add the new straps? I’ve tried sanding it down but that didn’t really have an effect. I then thought I’d try and lightly dremel at a low speed but sensed that may for south so stopped so any other ideas would be great. Thanks, Tim

Hi folks, Just picking up this thread again as I’m just in the middle of redoing my shin strapping due to wear and tear from trooping. When I redid them last time, I always found them a little tighter than the original fit that RS did for me. I wouldn’t consider myself as overweight but I’ve always had quite chunky legs. So, to ensure a more comfortable fit, am I right in assuming that if I glue up to the yellow line instead of the red line that will give the elastic more flex to stretch over to the hooks. Probably a silly question but from my experience doing this so far, what works on paper doesn’t always achieve the right results in practice. Thanks all, Tim

Hi all, Helmet nearly complete(?) with just a little more painting to do. Whilst I wait for that to dry, can anyone point me in the right direction for any threads that covers the complete list of materials needed for strapping, poppers, hooks (and their sizes). Many thanks. -

RS provided my decals which they said was printed from an actual helmet. I was given 2 sets and in each set there was one side with more even spacing between the lines and the other side not so much. I chose to use the decals from each set with the more even spacing as I didn’t think it mattered which side they went on. Is this not the case? -

Just checking the position of the tube stripes before I stick them on properly. I can only fit 12 stripes on but I understand this is passable The placement shown is a pencil width from the side of the cheek as per the CRL but let me know if there are any adjustments I need to make. -

My decals were provided by RS (for their own helmet) so hopefully mine will be ok. I do need to cut them out myself though so my next question is whether there black outlines need to be a certain thickness? -

Hi Glen, Thanks for reshaping this. I did follow this tutorial and found it really useful. Forgive the angle and taped up ears, it gives the impression that the gaps are bigger than what they are but when held in place securely it does sit much more nicely. Just as an additional question, is it common to have more space on one cheek than the other, therefore allowing less/more blue stripes?
