Greetings Fletcher! Reach out to those in the local area but most definitely start a build thread here on the FISD. You'll be able to get loads of feedback from people who have been where you are and help to answer questions. Plus you'll get guidance on parts you may not have considered. There is a wealth of information on here.

repeat failures of the icomm unit?
Hesikaya replied to BAZINGA's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
I too have been impresed with the TK Talkie. I wear mine in a separate chest rig behind my armor. -
All good answers above. One other thing I was thinking of was, are they all running off the same power source? Usually an anker has it's own internal power supply but if your fans and voice changer are on the same circuit that could possibly introduce some electrical noise.

I need to know too! That loos so cool. -
Welcome back Adam! It seems to happen to all of us but don't let that stop ya. As mentioned above there are some purpose built options as well as some techniques you can use during your build to make sure it fits properly. Looking forward to seeing your build.

Hey WarOrk. I use a TKTalkie with an Anker amp. The TK Talkie allows you to run a background chatter file like what gmrhodes suggested above but will also add the radio clicks and pops when you speak. Additionally, it can be used with a sound glove to play the classic movie lines if you wish. I love this thing and am going to incorporate it into my TI too. You can build it yourself or buy it here: https://tktalkie.com/

Sound clips while trooping
Hesikaya replied to viewoptic's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
I am a huge fan of the TKTalkie. You can use it as a voice changer or add buttons for pre assigned phrases / sounds etc. I've used it on my TK, a Gonk, and my kids Jawa costumes. It will also play background chatter on a loop based on your character. I wear it on a chest rig that is behind my chest plate with an Aker speaker and a USB power pack. I wear a mic and run the cord under my neck seal and out my the top of my shirt which isn't visible and down to the chest rig. -
Coach_MattLewis is requesting pre-approval review
Hesikaya replied to Coach_MattLewis's topic in Request TK Pre-Approval
Hey Coach! Looks like you tackled those issues that were getting in the way of your basic approval. Great work! I can't wait to troop with ya out there. I think you should hear back on your application soon. Now, on to getting you that awesome level 3 Centurion award you're after. One of the things I am seeing that you'll need to work on for Centurion is that your belt appears to be moving or not fixed in place. The Top of the ammo section needs to be touching the bottom of or just covering the bottom edge of the ab buttons. The first image you posted looks pretty close. I'll defer to one of our fantastic DOs but looks like it isn't snapped in or the belt was getting loose and saging down a little. The other note about your belt is the ammo boxes need to be closer vertically to the ammo belt. Be sure to align them to the ends of the plastic section of the ammo belt too when you adjust them. Shoulder bells should have minimal space around them and they appear to be floating up into your ears. I think it may be that your strap got over the top of the end of the bicep and was pushing them up. The inside of the sniper knee plate looks to be attached low. The top edge should be aligned with the top edge of the shin. -

Hey Coach, You've definitely put in some work and love that you're shooting for Centurion. It's a major accomplishment and we are always looking to get more TKs up to that level. A suggestion I would make on the thighs. I wear a black nylon belt that is under the armor and has straps that drop down and attach to the thighs with Velcro to keep them as high as possible. I like that it supports them separately rather than having straps that drop down from the armor. This way it doesn't make my armor feel like it's dragging me down. Looking at the shoulder bridges it appears that they are completely free floating? They should be glued to the chest plate and free floating only in the back with a small elastic to keep them down back there. I'm guessing that is why you have that large elastic band on the front of them? I'm not sure I've seen a set of TK boots with a seam down the front before. As Glen mentioned above, Imperial boots are great boots for TKs. I have a pair and they are very comfortable and necessary for your level 2 and 3 applications later. I also tend to agree with the others on switching to a single piece canvas belt. It will relieve some of the strain that's currently going through just the plastic portion of the belt and make it less likely for your drop boxes to be misaligned and keep your thermal detonator in position. I took have a kittel belt and it is fantastic. -
Sounds like you have some highly experienced hands to help guide you Lauren. I read, re-read, and read Ukswrath's build thread probably a hundred times while building mine. Like mentioned above it is good to refer to teh current CRL's to avoid any hiccups caused by changes and definetly good to aim for Centurion right out the gate so you can make the necessary upgrades without any unnecessary extra steps in the middle.

Another soon to be minted TK! How exciting, Welcome aboard Jeff!

Hey there Jay! Welcome aboard. Kids are very hard to keep in the proper sized armor and the hard armor can be uncomfortable but I may have a solution. There is a tutorial on making foam armor out of craft foam that is very excellent. In fact I made some armor for my kids and they used it for a couple years before outgrowing it. They were a huge hit whenever they'd wear it.

New Denuo Novo ANH OT Stormtrooper Helmet
Hesikaya replied to TheRascalKing's topic in ANH (Stunt and Hero)
Justin, Good eye on the items that will need to be adjusted for the higher levels. I have a Anovos helmet and most of the things you mention were on my list of adjustments needed, especially for higher approvals as well. It looks like they've made an effort to do a better job on painting the frown and keeping it off the gums. I really like my Anovos helmet and the kit. I just wish the ABS they used was a tad thicker and more resilient. -
Owen, I would expect to easily be upwards of the $1,000 mark once you are fully kitted out. As referenced above the armor is just part of it. There's paints, gloves, soft parts such as your under suit, balaclava if you wish, neck seal, gloves. nylon straps, possibly a belt, velcro, sewing and stitching materials, Boots. Then the question of do you want a blaster? What materials, pre-made, part of a kit? It might sound overwhelming but it is all worth it in the end.

Welcome to FISD Alan! While you wait for that Big Brown Box you have plenty of time to check out build threads and get the upper hand on those plastics when they arrive.

Brad, I think you are going to fit in here. Many of us have gone through something that has made us more aware of those who are having a difficult time and may need help. That drives many of us to strive to give back to others and bring smiles to their faces. Good luck on your final installs and upcoming approval! Can't wait ot see you out there trooper! -

arduino: a cheap board for E11 blaster effects
Hesikaya replied to skyone's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
I haven't seen any that specifically have the space designed to account for electronics but these parts are pretty small. There are some good files on Thingiverse which you can find in the thread I attached. I made enough room to stick electronics into a doopydoo kit but they seem nearly impossible to get nowadays.
