  1. Karin, Im on my phone now, if you cant log in by tomorrow when I reach my comp, ill reset your password. We have had some issues with a couple users. Not many anyway. Shoul be working fine again soon. Just post here or mail me. Saludos.
  2. This is very sad news. I was born oly in '77 but he was a big childhood hero for me. I guess for millions others too. May he RIP. Saludos.
  3. Wow! Great eyer Paul! Awesome! Saludos
  4. mmm... If I remember correctly, I just stick it with the glue on the back of the industrial velcro itself. Just leave the glue to fix for at least 24 hours without opening and closing the velcro. I probably used some hot glue on the edges of the velcro... they are quiet large sections of velcro. The smaller they are, the more probable to fall of they are. Sewing might be a good option if you dont mind the stitches showing. And it must be done with a proper industrial sewing machine since it is almost impossible to stick a needle in it. Check this out: Saludos
  5. My belt is attached to the ab plate with two snaps. Then, it is attached to the back with industrial velcro. It works perfect for me. I dont have a Thermal Detonator, but have a Heavy Backpack rubbing over the belt and it has never fallen down. Hope it helps. Saludos.
  6. LOL!! Yep! We all are quiet funny you know. That is one of the great benefits you get for being the single only designation that never works near Vader. Its just the tough shell we have... And the bad marksmanship... as said, we need to practice with Jawas. Saludos
  7. Taking in consideration that we missed the droids that we were looking for, were eluded by a locked door, and in general, troop with our blasters unloaded, missing the falcon was just another day in the factory. Saludos
  8. Yes!!! Come to the MEPD. We have cookies... er... Lots of jawas to practice your marksmanship. Anyway, I used woodland scenics Raw Umber pigment. One single color, dozens of layers. Saludos.
  9. Hi Ingrid. Cool and cery useful info here. Would it be fine if we replicate some of these ideas over the MEPD? Specially the hashtag and sharing ideas? Thx. Saludos.
  10. Btw, the FISD is a detachment of the 501st. So it is the same club. Just, the part specialized in Stormtrooper armor and variations. Good luck with your build. And welcome. Saludos.
  11. Being a casual user of the FISD, and a heavy user over the MEPD for years I can see different attitudes within members. But overall, both forums are very welcoming. Specially compared to other forums. Anyway. We over the MEPD have found that a welcoming and supporting attitude in the forum, specially from the most experienced members towards the newbies will reduce the gap between the "I only want any armor" guys and the "going for the ultimate prop replica" one. Not everyone will go for a prop replica, but most will try within their possibilities to go the extra mile. Many new MEPD users' armors now meet the standard we set in the first draft of the SWAT program when applying for basic 501st clearance. And that is awesome. I understand the big difference between both of our detachments but I have seen than making a welcoming atmosphere will only make everything better and better armors and troopers all around. Troopers helping troopers is a great motto. And very inspiring for sure. Let's keep making this place even better. Saludos.
  12. I have no TK but a sandy an I realiza is a whole different thing, but for the armor it took about 2 months. Taking it slowly and with just a few hours every other day. But then, that was the beginning, cause its has taken me almost 4 years to take my sandtrooper where I want it to be. Almost done now and will be applying for SWAT at the MEPD soon. Anyway, take your time. It is not a race. And with time, you will find that the armor is never really finish. You can always mod or upgrade for better accuracy. Saludos.
  13. Looking forward to read about that big breakthrough. Saludos.
  14. Yep, you can get 501st TD status without a pack. But if you are looking for MEPD deployment you will need a pack. Head over there, it's a wretched hive of scum and villainy. But a welcoming one. Saludos.
  15. Had the same problem the first time I switched from testors to humbrol. The key is to shake the can continuously for at least 2 minutes, then stir the paint with a toothpick or whatever for a few minutes more and apply. Paint thin layers and let it cure a few hours. I now like humbrol much more than testors. Saludos.
  16. Might be a bit late and really don't want to derail the thread there were some interesting facts discussed here. Just wanted to mention that no yellow paint was use for sandtrooper armor. If you mean weathering, it was done with brown and blackish paint and some of us think it was mixed with other substances in hand too. But never yellow. Unless I am really missing something. Keep the build going and pictures coming!!! Saludos
  17. Yeah, The shoulder pouch is attached to the shoulder strap on the pack. That is why Sandtroopers with no packs dont have a shoulder pouch either (like the Stop that Ship trooper). You just slip the strap across the loops on the back of the pouch and fix it with black gaffers tape (or similar) that is how I have mine cause I think that would be a simple solution during production. And it works perfect. Come and visit us at the mepd, you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy... a place to call home! Saludos.
  18. Did you wash off with water and soap the chemicals use for de-moulding? Most makers use some kind of substances to make de-moulding easier. You must wash all the plastic parts specially on the inside to make sure no chemical leftovers stay on them. Those chemicals prevent any paint to stay on the plastic. Other than that... you could prepare the plastic for paint with a little sanding, fine grit sand paper and even use a coat of primer if you really want better results. And go with several thin layers instead of one thick layer. I only wash the parts and then go with paint directly over the plastic and it works fine. Saludos.
  19. Things are worth what someone else is willing to pay for them... So, if you set a price that feels right for you consodering what youpaid for it in the first place, and someone else is willing to pay that money for it, then you are fine. As long as you both feel fine with the sale, you should have no moral issues there. And just because you now know better, it doesnt mean that the suit costs less in the same market. Saludos.
  20. Yeah, once you put on your helmet, if you are 5'10" you should look similar in proportions than screen TKs. It is a matter of how your bucket is put together and how you make it on the inside. Saludos.
  21. I would add, read and study as much as possible on original armor assembly. As TM says (sort of), if you copy other fan made builds you will end with a copy of a fan made build, if you want to be closerto real armor, study real armor. Saludos.
  22. I travelled from Mexico to the USA for CIV with armor and hasbro E11. Had no problem at all... But, once at the con, I heard that the legion command and CIV staff was asking for all weapons to have an orange tip, just so that ppl and law enforcement would know that it was a "toy" weapon. That could help. Planning to go to CVI and I will take an unmodified hasbro painted black with an orange tip. I would not risk my E11 to be damage, confiscated or else by the journey or even customs officers, or police. Saludos.
  23. Hi Karin! We are fine... There was no real damage and fortunately no lives were lost. The earthquake was a big one (7.8 Reichter degrees) and then we had 2 or 3 smaller ones. Only panic attacks and looooooots of buildings evacuated a long several cities. But ever since the big quake in 1985, we have been working to be prepared for this kind of situations. Everything work fine this time! Thx for all your good vibes and thoughts. Muchas gracias mi amiga. Saludos Juan
  24. THX a lot!! Every day that passes I found that I like more and more the ROTJ look! Specially the weird black frown. I am still waiting for a new set of decals from Mark (need to place the order). In the meantime, I will place in a better position the tips, and make a couple of minor adjustments to the build before weathering. This is slowly starting to take shape! Finally!!! Saludos Juan
  25. I didnt really liked how the frown looked so I went back and painted it again. I like it a lot more now. Think it is very closento the screen used ones. Whatdo you think? Saludos
