Woo hoo!!! I see pictures. -
Perhaps a bit thinner John, if not too late. Aaron has got. Aaron has got a good pic of a real bolt in his pipe build, about half way down page 4 of his thread. http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/26960-e-11-steel-pipe-build/page-4

No dramas. You gotta used the 'advanced' search to ever get anything. Just typing in that box up top right gives sweet fa.

Nice of Snaps to chime in on the snaps question -

Both 40mm OD. Aaron has quite a few different options shown in his thread too http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/29140-carbon-fiber-e-11-build/page-3 Gee, it'd be nice to have all this information in a Blaster Builders Ready Reference thread wouldn't it. Someone should put one together... (Edit: Hmm, link to Aarons isn't working. You can copy and paste anyway....)

This thread http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/26477-what-we-know-about-strapping-snaps-rivets-etc/#entry334341 has fantastic information in it. Also, looking at the EIB and Centurion applications to see where others have placed there strapping will help. Of course bearing in mind that any non-visible strapping doesn;t HAVE to be a certain type. Only the visible stuff. Nice to be accurate though..... The 1 inch white would be for the drop boxes, shin hooks if you go that way The 1 inch black would be for the shoulder bells to shoulder straps, straps around the biceps, joining the torso. That gets used quite a bit. -

Great tutorial! Or contact the maker of your armor. They might be able to ship some out to you. -
Ahh, missed that particular statement

What can't the man do? Swimming with crocodiles, fighting off poisonous snakes... Wait for the story of beating off great white Sharks as he heads down the east coast. -

Two readers have replied, now 3. You must be special! As they said, but if the shins (not shims, shins) still don't line up then the hot water bath will sort it out. I think mine were out top to bottom - ie: bottom closed up nicely, but the top overlaped by 20mm or so. Glue the coverstrip on the front, then just tape the rear as you put it in the bath. Also be aware that different armor comes in different shades of white, as does does different manufacturers of ABS. I would to order from AP first, then try secondary sources if that fails. Oh, and I never remember sandpaper numbers, sorry. at $1- a sheet I bought 2 or 3 of everything and use whatever I think works best at the time. -
Looking good John.

DVH Pipe Build with Extras
I'm Batman replied to I'm Batman's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Thanks for that Brian. I'll definitely check out those EZ coils. They sound good. I'm guessing that as a sterling has an ID of about 34, and the spring above is about 29, the 5mm difference (2.5 each side) doesn't really matter. The pressure and that extra bit at the end of the bolt keeps it in line? So the spring I find and use doesn't have to be 34OD. Nothing may ever be perfect, but we can only try to do the best and compromise where we have to. -

BTW - I think you need to have your 501st approval linked to your user name first. That's another thread. Oh, and welcome to the FISD. -

DVH Pipe Build with Extras
I'm Batman replied to I'm Batman's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
My thoughts too Aaron. Gadgets are cool! No one at my troops or armor parties will ever count the coils.... Maybe one nice looking spring (that I have already made) for show and one functional one for my moving bolt for public gatherings. Thanks for the link Steve. They are the ones I googled. Haven't seen them here in Aus, but then again, I haven't looked. Will check them out, and even go back to my Industrial Supplies shop that had the wide range of springs. One of them might have to do. This will set me back a couple of weeks I reckon, but I've still got some small things to do. Oh, and paint of course. And Aaron, I'll be eagerly awaiting your solution when you get up to it. -
DVH Pipe Build with Extras
I'm Batman replied to I'm Batman's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Yeah, a real spring (like from a real sterling) may have too much force for a resin cap, especially with my Green Stuff fixing up the notches, so do I consider a non functioning spring but looks the part, or functional but perhaps less coils showing, I don't know..... -
Excellent work. You've been doing your research - avoiding the common mistake with carving out that folding stock section. Well done. Guard looks fine!

DVH Pipe Build with Extras
I'm Batman replied to I'm Batman's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Thanks for the reply Aaron. However it looks like as Steve was using a Doopy kit, he only got a 22mm diameter spring, and it is only about 90mm long, and has about 8 coils showing. I would like to try to get a spring somewhere between the 29mm (above pic) and 34mm (ID of my pipe) and it needs to be at least 150mm 'unsprung' length to put pressure on the rear cap to allow that to function. Picky, aren't I? I did notice Steve mention a "EZ Coil Radiator hose". Haven't heard of them, but I'll investigte the auto stores.... -
DVH Pipe Build with Extras
I'm Batman replied to I'm Batman's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
HEEEEEELLLLLLLLPPPPP, please. I'm up to putting a spring in the rear of the receiver tube. Because I've got a completely round and hollow chamber behind the bolt/cocking handle I want this to be fully operational. Going to the local industrial suppliers I've looked at all their manufactured springs with no luck. So next option is to make one. My first attempt was with 2.1mm thick coathanger wire. I made a pretty decent spring, but I could barely compress it at all - only managed to pull back the cocking handle by about 5-10mm! So next I bought some 1.65mm garden/fencing wire. Being easier to bend I have produced a beautiful looking spring but when I compress it, it only comes back to about 80-90% its original size. So now my cocking handle and bolt just flap around with no pressure against it. I noticed Tino used 1.8mm wire, probably based on this real sterling spring. Will that inbetween thickness make a difference to me? Or is it the type of metal I'm using? Can someone source me a real spring? Photo courtesy of http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/16705-the-best-sterling-templates-ever/page-8?hl=the%20best%20sterling%20templates%20ever Thanks for any insight anyone can give. -
Apologies, I stand corrected. Gloss black may not be 'wrong', but the following quotes by our illustrious Deployment Officer would suggest Satin: "vocoder are between the mic tips should be a satin (matte) black rather than a gloss black." "gloss black for outlines and details, matte black for the Hovi tips and vocoder" "Now that the vocoder is dry, you can see the semi-gloss, matte, satin, finish" "I do like to note that ideal finish for the hovi tips and the vocoder area between them should be a satin/matte finish. Not so uber glossy" "I do want to mention that the vocoder area in between the mic tips should be painted the same matte black as the mic tips..not glossy." "For the record, though, the vocoder (area between the mic tips) should be a matte black (in between gloss and flat)" "Actually, the vocoder should be matte black which is half way between gloss and flat." "your hovi tips at the same time you paint the vocoder on the helmet face. Both should be matte black. Not gloss"
