Hi all,
Unfortunately, it's been a while since I've added any of our troops to the "Field Training" thread and I apologize for not reporting in on a regular basis. It's definitely not due to a lack of troops, just haven't been getting the photos transferred like I used to, but this one was too good not to share with you all.
As the title states, last night the Bloodfin Garrison took part in a Blue and Gold dinner for a special scout pack. This scout group are the only Scouts in America who donate all of the money they earn in popcorn sales each year to help disabled and needy soldiers. So far, the Scouts have contributed over $5000 in their "Half to Heroes" campaign, they've helped raise nearly $2000 to the Indiana National Guard Family Relief Fund and have shipped 75 care packages to troops overseas. In talking with the scout leader last night, we learned that these kids volunteered to donate everything on their own. Not because they had to, but because they wanted to.
So in keeping with their theme this year of science and technology, the leaders set this banquet up as a Sci-Fi costume party where all the scouts could come dressed as their favorite characters. The scout leader even got in the action. He set up this elaborate grand entrance (since we were a surprise for the kids) where he played a scene from the movie "Close Encounters" on large projection screen and when the space ship lands, the projector screen slowly raises and curtains part to find himself (dressed in alien attire) and us troopers walking out from behind the fog (smoke machine). Had a great troop with a great group of kids.
