Many times different brands of paint and primer don't mix. Check out Home Depot and pick up some Rustoleum Painters Touch white primer. It's great.
Unfortunately for your helmet, there is hope so you don't have to sand and repaint the while thing. Sand it down with new sandpaper until your wet sanding with 800 grit. Then wash the helmet with dish soap and water, rinse it throughly. Then try and paint it. Sometimes the oils in our skin can transfer onto an object and will cause a paint to react too. Also when you paint the helmet use very light coats about 5 minutes apart. The lighter the coat the less time to react before it starts to dry.
Thanks for the info Terrel, I'll try that out this weekend.

Congratulations on the new home. It is so much nicer to own a home and not be renting. Your story has been an inspiration to the power of the people in the Legion. We are so much more than just guys and gals in plastic.

I've seen in most stores the "ESB Wave" Snowtrooper, Capt Needa, Hoth Rebel Scum.. err Trooper, Leia and Luke in there medical outfits from the end of ESB.

youre using the same brand primer and paints right?
No. I really don't like the primer I've got, but the selection in the stores is severely limited. As is the customer service, I asked one clerk for a primer for plastics and he handed me regular grey spray paint.
The brand of paint is Rustoleum Gloss Protective Enamel, the primer is Valspar. I couldn't find a Rustoleum branded primer that said it was rated for plastic.

I've been painting my MRCE. When it comes to painting I'm pretty much a newb. For the first time around, it's actually turning out pretty good. However, I've run into a problem that I can't seem to fix. I've got 3 coats of paint on there, with a coat of primer underneath and sanding between coats. A few spots have developed this type of rippling that doesn't to want to clear up no matter how much I sand it or attempt to spray over it.
Just looking for some advice from some of the experts on here.

Rewatched ROTJ today, I had forgotten how wonky those troopers looked. Makes me wonder how much was intentional.

Welcome! I'm about 6'-1" or so and I've got the FX armor.

There's a wealth of knowledge on here, take a look around and do some exploring. Lots of pictures to enjoy and can get an idea of what else is out there.

Great find there! It really does seem like the lens are green. Does seem that this lends more credibility to the Green Bubble Hero lens thought.

Welcome! This is THE place for all things TK

Great pictures! Way to go troopers!

This is the movie that I have always loved. With the blue ray and the game coming this June, seems interest is there again. Still rumors about a third movie. How cool would that be?
Yea... This is one fantastic piece of junk. Lights are awesome!
I am going to armor up and put the pack on. That will be the avatar of all time! (at least for me...)
Pictures! That would be so great.

The repositioned face makes all the difference to me. The more "flattened" face profile looks better in my eyes. The DL seems a very nice helmet that you don't hear much about.
Does he only do helmets or does he do full suits as well?

I had seen pictures online for years of 501st members and people in TK armor. But, the very first time I ever saw one in person was at a local con called Shevacon here in VA in early 2007. Follow that up with Celebration IV a few months later and I was jealous of all the people in armor having so much fun. One more go around at the local Shevacon in early 2008 and I knew I had to take the plunge.
Of course part of the TK mystique was ruined at the con because there was a armor panel which involved a member stripping out of his armor to show how the pieces fit together.

Whenever the next run begins, I'd be interested in a set.

I used a heat gun, heating it from behind and they just kind of wiggle off.

Bit of thread stealing and necro posting here.
I'm pretty much a newb when it comes to helmet painting. I've got the first coat down on my MRCE and I'm planning on hitting the second coat tomorrow.
What typically works better between coats, wet sand or dry sanding?

I've been meaning to send a payment to help support this site for sometime. This is as good a reason as any.

Honestly, I've always thought Obi-wan recognized R2.

Congratulations!

Donations are still being accepted! I'm a helmet (halfway there!) and a blaster away from applying.

I thought the Sandtroopers had some static burst. The Death Star TKs definitely did not though.

Welcome! I've got some family up in the Seattle area, I'm sorry we all used to live in California.

Welcome! It seems all the artists and celebs want to get into armor.

I've always sworn I could see a shell ejecting during ESB when Lando and Leia are escaping Cloud City. They give a close up of Lando shooting at those poor troopers who were just doing there job, and you can see shells ejecting.

It has been extremely hot here in the last few weeks, 80-90 degrees F and above. Would it make a noticeable difference if I was painting (and letting it cure) in the direct sunlight or should it be in the shade?
