  1. Enjoying my 3 day weekend, sadly no July 4th troops it seems. Tonight it's a BBQ with the wife's family and at some point working more on the helmet.

Hope everyone has a good Fourth.. and our international friends have a good weekend.

  2. I don't have a very good setup for taking screen caps, but the best place in the game I've seen for seeing the TK Commander up close is the level where you have escape from the medical bay (name escapes me at the moment). You have to fight several of them in the level and it's easy to wipe out the other enemies and get them cornered so you can get some close looks at them.

  3. It looks like we have 2 different points being discussed in this thread.

    1. Armor comparision, sizing, difference in shaping, what is most accurate, etc. I think this would be a great idea to really show the similarities and differences to the different armors available.

Although it should be noted that just because you're a bigger or smaller trooper doesn't mean you can or can't wear a particular armor. It just means you might need more shimming or trimming. Much of the fit comes in the construction.

    2. Armor makers and there contact info. As silly as it sounds, the info should not be out in the open forum. Yes, the argument can be made that the info is readily available if you know where to look and if LFL wanted to hit them with C&D they could within 5 minutes of searching. That's not the point, LFL is only out to stop those who advertise openly it seems (like the AA/SDS Case). LFL is well aware of everyone and knows where we get the armor from, they let us play as long as it's by there rules.

It seems to me that if we encouraged the newer people to contact the detachment staff that would be the best way to get the info out there, but not have it be in the open forum for all to see and to violate LFL's rules.

  4. I have to admit I'm a little confused on this debate. Are we discussing EIB standards or 501st standards?

My 2 cents on the matter, if it's EIB standards, I think we should be as close to the info from the PS3/X360 versions because those are from Lucasarts.

For 501st, as long as you match one version that is out there (Sideshow, Hasbro, etc.)

Just my thoughts, and forgive me if I'm just beating a dead Tauntaun.

  5. Exacto knife for the parts of the brow trim that didn't come loose right away.

Then I dremelled away the actual brow of the helmet.

    Pretty much the same.

As for the dimple, I sanded, sanded, sanded, sanded.. and then sanded some more and it's pretty much gone now. I've heard of others using putty to fill it.

  6. Welcome! With your size, I'd say you should stay away from FX, although it tends to be cheapest and most readily available, it's a larger sculpt and you'll end up trimming a lot or simply swimming in it.

Like the others said, have a look around and see what catches your eye. Most of the fit of the armor comes in the actual construction and fitting it to your body.

  7. How can you improve something that seems to be running so smoothly?

The only thought I can think of is something to help the new people. BS.N has a set person to contact for basic armor info, explanation of the acronyms, etc. All the little bits to help people get started. I think something like that would be good for new people. The armor makers are hardly a secret. With the individual makers approval why not have a "newbie starting kit." A new person signs up on the forums, gets overwhelmed with info, but they can PM either a set person on the staff or any of the staff who send them "the kit" that gives them a basic overview and answers some of the most basic new questions and helps to keep from getting burned on ebay.

  8. Common sense tells me to notify the people at the check in counter and security station of everything. Tell them it's a costume and prop replicas.

I may be flying with armor later this year, so I'm looking into carrying case options and how best to deal with security. Helmet is a different story, that's going to be my carry-on. It's not leaving my sight.
