good armor and a bad rep?
starsaber25 replied to jimsidious's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Well Paul has certainly given you all of the info you need. It wouldn't be advantageous for anyone at FISD to add people to a do not buy list just because they do not like them. People added to lists like this are well deserving of it through a well documented pattern of poor business practices. -
You looked great down there Teresa! It was nice to meet you. You did a great job with your build. There was no doubt that Aaron was pumped about your armor as well. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome! Congrats Josh! It is a great feeling when you finally pull the trigger. Which set of armor did you go with? I absolutely love my Hyperfirm. It is a nice blaster to take out trooping because you don't have to worry about it breaking.

Hi Kevin. Yes research is key like Glen mentioned. However, we get very spoiled over here at FISD. Everything is within our fingertips and stuff is available from a multitude of vendors and with typically minimal wait time. The same can't be said for other costumes. I know from experience that finding an accurate Tie helmet is difficult. There are handful of vendors of Tie helmets but they are all different looking. Some of the more accurate helmets are from vendors that have extremely long wait times like Dan Laws and Moncal. I narrowed my decision at the time to The Shed of Glittering Delights because I liked the way the helmet looked. However, when this past Black Friday rolled around I took advantage of the Anovos tie helmet. I'm happy with it but still don't know how accurate it is. Another option is to check out Radu Plucinsky on facebook. I kinda like how his stuff looks. I hope I have helped atleast a little.

Great times! Welcome back fancy way to say pirates! -
To be perfectly honest with you Adam, unless this all is going for a really good low price, I would look elsewhere. I'm not entirely sure if your garrison would approve the eFX helmet. The armor looks okay from the pictures but there are far better sets out there. Have you reached out to any of the vetted vendors? I would consider checking with WTF or MTK if you are looking for a set of armor and want it pretty quickly. They are also in the lower price range. I have not yet heard of anyone taking a Rogue One black series helmet and modifying it to look ANH. I think it might cost you too much in time, effort, and materials then if you were to just buy a kit from someone.

Yeah it was good to meet you at the lunch as well Preston. It was really awesome finally getting to meet all of you in person. Meeting everyone and hanging out was the best part of Celebration for me. I actually forgot there was a con going on! -
The 2017 ANOVOS TK armor feedback thread
starsaber25 replied to DEVOLVER's topic in Getting Started - Read this First!
Hi Zac and welcome to FISD! Well there are a large amount of varying opinions of Anovos and their armor. There is a ton of information already documented on the forums. I do not own a set so I can only speak to what I have seen and heard. So far it seems that the armor is not made to last. I have had my set of MTK armor 2.5 years now and it has held up well. I have trooped in it a bunch now. Done the whole walking around for Halloween bit. And just the past weekend finally traveled with it on a plane to Orlando for Celebration. So my armor has gotten some use now. I have not had one issue with the durability of mine. Now in comparison one of my buddies that just went down to Celebration with me has Anovos and his armor is cracking in certain areas and his chest piece is falling apart. He has put it to good use since he has had it but it should not be falling apart like it is. I have heard this numerous times now about Anovos. It will certainly get you into the 501st if built correctly but there is cause for Concern about its durability. Just keep doing your research and you will be able to make a well informed decision on which armor you would like to go with. Good luck! -
Happy Easter everyone! Enjoy the day!

Well there certainly appears to be a mixed bag. The only dealing I had with them so far is I bought their Tie helmet. I had no issue whatsoever and I am happy with the product and the shipping (shipping is expensive). Now that is just one little thing. I have heard a bunch of horror stories with them. If my buddy Allan sees this thread I'm sure he would love to give his input. But anyway it appears that if you need to contact customer support for any issue then you are not going to like them. I have heard of them sending products that are defective as well as sending the wrong product as well. Probably the biggest complaint is their shipping estimates which are usually way off from what they say they are. However, it is not uncommon to wait a year even for a prop maker using his garage. Lord knows I feel I could be waiting a very very long time for my tie armor to arrive that I ordered back in December from a single man operation with little to no contact with so far. So I guess it is buyer beware with Anovos but some people have been happy and others have been disappointed.

Job well done guys! This is what it is all about! -
Yeah that's awesome to hear! Glad to hear you had positive experience. You always hear of the horror stories when people finally meet a celebrity they have always dreamed of meeting and it's a miserable experience. The force is strong with that one!

Btw I'm going to move this to general discussion.

Hi Michelle and welcome to FISD! If you do a search on SDS you will find a lot of info on the forum. The short answer is stay clear of him. He has made many false claims and twists it into what he knows people want to hear. I would recommend you read through this post thoroughly as well as many of the other getting started threads. Have fun! Here is a good link: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/29241-is-originalstormtroopercom-good-quality-for-its-price/

Official FISD Events for Celebration Orlando 2017
starsaber25 replied to tkrestonva's topic in Announcements
From what I understand, people who like to do swag trading (most people) usually carry their stuff around all of the time unless they are in costume. So there should be plenty of opportunities. I for one will be carrying a back pack with stuff in it when I'm not in my armor! -
Richard do you have Facebook? Check out the Shed of Glittering Delights. Better then both of these options and they are in the UK. I would say it's reasonably affordable too. With that kit it is reasonably screen accurate for a display and if built correctly it can go all the way to Centurion. I also believe Andy sells them fully built as well.

ANH Anovos TK WIP (questions)
starsaber25 replied to Tecnotic's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
It may be high by like a millimeter or two. Honestly I would just leave it. I would say its rather to have it more up high then down too far. Looks good to me! -
Hi Scott. Very nice job on your build. There are a few things that have popped out at me that could probably use some attention. First is the thermal detonator clips need to be pushed out more to the ends by the bottle caps. There should be very little to no gap in between. Also, I'm sure they are there but it is hard to tell from the photos if there are power cylinders on your E-11. I'm sure they are there but I just can't tell from the photo. And lastly, this probably won't effect your EIB submission but your snap on the right side of the ab plate appears to be pushed towards the center. The snap is supposed to be placed at the upper most corner on the right side. Again I don't know if that will effect your EIB submission or even a Centurion submission but it was just something that caught my eye. But overall you did a very nice job. Good luck with your submission!

Cool thread. Here goes: I HAVE: ANH Stormtrooper ESB Stormtrooper ANH Bridge Crew Tie Reserve Pilot ANH Tie Pilot WORKING ON: Nothing No Money PLANNING ON: Using Allan's awesome away to switch between an ANH Tie Pilot to ROTJ Pilot I would like to build something else but I don't know what that is yet. Once I have funds I would like to get a set of Darth Stone's ROTJ Helmet and Armor for display.
