  1. Good question! Bumping this thread again as we need a few more questions for July. Thanks!
  2. Unless you have done your own sculpting of helmets, don't insult people by calling it "crappy". At least Kevin has the balls to sculpt something on his own from scratch, and even though it might not be perfect, very few people have done the same. Give proper respect where it's due.
  3. I think the closest match I have found for AM armor is TMC / Tray Moncal. Polish it up, and it's a pretty close match.
  4. Coming along nicely so far. Personally, I usually leave the helmet for the last part of the build. In regards to leg shims (and the rest of the armor), there are tutorials written with sizes and specs here. http://www.whitearmor.net/home/tutorials/armor-tutorials/thighsshins.html In regards to painting the helmet, did you wash the inside with detergent first? Follow my ATA ABS helmet build for tips. http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=14806&st=0
  5. The large Plano boxes are airline approved if you can pack everything in. I have gotten a complete TK with helmet to fit in these. I've seen them on sale for about $20 at Walmart. -----------
  6. Correct. If possible do a scoop cut for your inner elbow before shortening the forearm if possible.
  7. There's no requirement for number of divots for 501st legion or EIB.
  8. This is how I weather a TD. http://forum.mepd.net/index.php?showtopic=7290&pid=102257&st=0entry102257
  9. Most people don't clear coat them after painting decals. Whatever you use, you have to be very careful. Depending on what decals / paints you have used, if you use an aggressive lacquer based clear, you can soften / dissolve the adhesive on some decals and paint details. If you can, use some scraps or test pieces to try clear coating first, before you attempt it on your lid.
  10. Pics from the Canada Day parade in Vancouver BC Canada yesterday. I'm the TD on the 2 wheel Imperial Transport. Little Ahsoka is my friend (TK Kimus daughter) with her Ahsoka costume that I made for her, 2 days before the Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle.
  11. Bumping this again if anyone has any Stormtrooper related Q's for Brian Muir.
  12. I used Clorox bleach and filled a rectangular plastic wash tub with some water (4 liters?) then just a splash, maybe a 1/4 cup of bleach. Then rinsed it when it was done. I wasn't trying to get it perfectly white. I agree with Paul, it's probably easier if you paint it.
  13. I had the same belt material. I just used water and a small amount of bleach and soaked it for about 25 mins and that was enough to make it more of an off white cream color.
  14. Given the choice - got ATA ABS all the way. Strong, very sharp pulls, durable, authentic color / shade of white, doesn't need painting
  15. TCSS is your friend ---------------
  16. I have never had a part fall off. The snap plates are glued in place with Plastic weld. Or Use E6000 if you need more work time. Avoid getting glue on the metal snaps as it can heat up and distort the plastic. That last photo is a pretty clear shot of the "cut cod". Its simply seperated from the ab section and joined with 2 straps.
  17. I would apply some Plastic Weld to the crack and glue it shut. Then glue a wide plastic shim on the underside of the crack to take the pressure off it.
  18. Use masking tape to hold the parts in position before clamping. This will prevent them from sliding out of alignment as they cure.
  19. You could go much smaller with Trustfire 3.7 volt batteries. They are AA sized.
  20. AM and TMC ABS helmet was a very good match for me in terms of size and plastic color. Just polish the TMC plastic and they are almost a perfect match.
  21. Ata armor is based off Cap which is based of Te2 etc. The thigh length mis match is due to the original armor it was based off of, which I believe is the ROTJ tour suit. This suit also had the left thigh longer than the right. Someone correct me if I have the lineage wrong. Most people just leave the thighs the way they are. You would have a hard time extending the left thigh but if you wanted them to match you could reduce the length of the right thigh, but ensure that the shape of the thigh tops are the same.
  22. Happy birthday Paul!
  23. Pretty sure that in Brian's book, he documented that while he was at the studio working on ANH the "plasterers" in the shop created molds and fiberglass versions of his sculpture to use as bucks for forming.
  24. Hi everyone. I am collaborating with Brian Muir on a Q and A for the June Fisd newsletter. If you have any questions in regards to the design, sculpting and development of the Stormtrooper, please post them below. I will select 6 questions for Brian, other questions will be held and selected from for future use. I may group questions together based on subject matter. Thanks! Terry
