Wahoo!!! Thank you so much! Very proud of this. I appreciate the great details for getting to the next level. I've got a taste of OCD, so I can truly appreciate the granular look at these areas. I spent a good year on updating the kit for this entry, so I'll take a little breather and then start working on these updates to try for level 3. My absolute thanks to the team for the fantastic review. A special thanks to Karen Anderson Designs for the pics. They didn't know these details so I couldn't guide them too well with the kit on. Next photos for level 3, I'll have a fellow trooper help me and we can reference the notes here too. I've been in the 501st for over 20 years, so it's an true honor to take it up a notice. My best to all the TKs out there. I hope my pics help you all on your way for an ESB certification too!

I was going to try and do the original strapping method on the pieces that would require the return edges - at least on the backside. I wasn't sure which other pieces would also have those edges or need to have the return edges on them. Haui and Evan, thank you for these tips. It appears I will have to create return edges on a few of these pieces and I'd probably better experiment some first before I attempt this.

Hi guys, Been reading around and looking at threads to try and get info on return edges for screen accurate looking armor. I ended up confusing myself in the gallery and what I was seeing in some other build threads. Finally came to terms with making a specific post to ask. Perhaps you can guide me to a thread I missed with this information or post info or pics on what I needed to figure out. I'm working on a T/MC armor set as an ESB trooper. I eventually want to go centurion if I can. My questions: Which pieces of the armor should have a return edge on them? I realize I may have to adapt and make my own on some pieces like the butt piece on this particular armor set. If I do this, how far out in mm is the return edge itself in most cases? Which return edge parts apply to an EIB or centurion application? Just want to get that right. My apologies if i missed a topical thread specific to this subject. I just couldn't find it and needed a little push for help. Thanks so much for the help!

After a lot of life distractions, I'm finally going to continue and get this guy built. A lot has been learned on this forum since I started this, so I've picked up a lot of new tips. Hope to post some updates maybe after this weekend sometime. Sorry for those that checked in and I didn't have anything on there for the longest time. Good to see the thread still exists. Back at it shortly.

Here is my final version of the ESB helmet. I plan to add fans, speakers, and maybe change the lighting gel lens at some point, but this is pretty set for me to move on. The lens here is the Welders Lens, but the flash on the camera makes it look dark. It is in fact green. I added the chin strap to try and match the auction helmet. It has the similar Anorak snaps on it. Stats Helmet:T/MC Decals: TK4510 Neck Trim:TK4510 (properly trimmed) Mic Tips: Keith's Onto the body. I hope to try and do the authentic strapping system. Working on getting the pieces now. How's the helmet look? Opinions welcome.

Thanks Dmian!!!

I was wondering for those that have done the lighting gel for the lens, do you have any recommendations on the color number from one of the lighting brands that is closest to what would have been used on screen? I see that there can be a few shades of green on some gel companies and I wasn't sure which color # or color type is best to use. Thanks for any thoughts on that from the experts.

ROTJ Chin Strap Snap/Popper Brand
evnltr replied to JoeR's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Yes great info. Thanks for measuring those Paul. I was trying to look at the snaps on the SWhelmet.com page with the ESB helmet. Look like similar silver anorak snaps, but of a different brand. My eyes stink, but zooming in on them looks the name is only on half of the bottom side of the snap. Kind of looks like it starts with CO...maybe...but I don't know. LOL -
ROTJ Chin Strap Snap/Popper Brand
evnltr replied to JoeR's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
That would be great Joe, thank you! I've seen some of those snaps in the 15mm or 5/8" setting. I just wasn't sure if that was close in size or not. -
ROTJ Chin Strap Snap/Popper Brand

Joe, Great thread! Thanks for the notes here on the snaps. (Mark too, I didn't know the exact type of snap. I'd love to know the brand too. Is the brand different? ) I'm starting my chin straps soon on my ESB version so this one will be be helpful at least as a good reference. Joe, do you know what size these were in mm or inches? -
Just doing an update to my build. Still working on the helmet. One step at a time. Did the inner liner with a gray primer and added my lens. Trying to emulate the 2004 Patch auction helmet. Added a few decals (i'll post helmet stats when its done). Cleaned up the frown some. It might need another light coat though. Next is the neck trim and chin strap. I messed up cutting my neck trim to get it into that similar "U" shape as seen on the ESB auction helmet. Trying again. I'll note what worked for me if I get it right in the manner of cut. Also looking for post style button snaps that they hand on the chin straps from the auction pics. I want to try and match authentically the best I can. Then I'll start the assembly and add tube stripes, properly trimmed neck trim, foam star glued in, and chin straps! More to come. You can see the trim as it is normal here before I start...

Looks great! Very interesting to see the paint and mods. I'll be watching your build. Good luck! I'd pop answers in on your prior questions if I was sure of myself on them. But I'd see what others might have on them.

New Empire Strikes Back Armour Build
evnltr replied to firebladejedi's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Great build Mark. I'll be watching this with great interest as I've just started my ESB build too. Love the thigh connection pics. So helpful. I always wondered about those connections (hidden little screw heads) on the internals and kidney pieces. Makes total sense now too. -
Hi guys, I thought it would be best to start my build and document my progress. I'm starting an ESB build to go for my EIB as it's always been my favorite trooper. I started wearing armor as a TK back in 2000 with my old FX set. Been a Mountain Garrison trooper for quite a while too. That FX got retired quite a ways back and is now on a mannequin in the basement as a conversation piece. Just not a fan of the FX anymore myself. I wanted to get something way more accurate and went with a T/MC ABS set. I really like it. (Side personal note: I just entered into empty nest stage with my wife as our only son is off at Basic training with the Army. So this is a well timed and much needed distraction hobby for me.) So here goes my build. Feel free to inject comments. I'm always trying to strive to be as accurate as a I can. I'm doing all my research as I go along. I'm so impressed with so many details many of you have found. It's amazing. I'll surely have some questions along the way. If I missed a post or thread on one of my topics, please point me towards it. Here's the initial set all trimmed now and my start on the helmet. I went with a more streamlined gum line for my frown. I like the slightly thicker look the 2004 Christies helmet had. Also went for the trimmed eye. I didn't like the bump much. So got that trimmed. Which gets me to lead off with a couple of questions from the ESB experts. 1. Rubber neck trim. Is it "S" curved or "U" curved on the ESB's? Looking at the 2004 auction helmet the rubber trim has me confused. It looks squarish on bottom and inside, but I still see what appears to be a cut line inside of the rubber trim. So I'm not sure exactly what shape this trim is. Is it "S" cut down? 2. Frown. I'm going for no mesh. The auction helmets don't have any signs of it and the promo shot we have on our web background even has what seems to be light going through a tooth. I'll try a black neck only balacalva from UA for that. Is it right the ESB troopers had no mesh either? 3. Chin strap. It's a non screen issue, but I was curious if it (based on auction helmets) is all elastic or if the bottom parts with the snaps are leather. I can't tell. Anyway onto the build. Here's my starting pics. First time posting pics here, so I'll try and edit and fix over time if I botch this.

Hey Cheesy, Welcome to the FISD. I got my TK in Dec. of 2000 and I didn't jump in here until 2008. So you aren't alone. I can't believe all the info I've gotten here since then. I'm starting over on my TK and going to go for a more screen accurate version of an ESB trooper. It's all about the research. I don't much about the MR, but I'm sure some folks in here will be able to guide you. I've already learned a ton about the blaster since getting in here. If you have any pics or visuals on how it's loose, others might be able to give you some tips on securing it. I always find the pics help. Good luck on your corrections!

STORMTROOPER BOOTS
evnltr replied to RogueTrooper's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Yep, big fan of the TK boots here too. Great to work with and great communication. Done with the CA's as well. I always hated the stitching on the front. Doing my TK all over again and these are a great start. I thinking the same thing about getting another for backup. Or a second for having in mint. Great boots. A little big on me too, but I'd say by a half size. I put in an insole and then cut some ankle parts off of some socks to fold over and wear around my ankles. I think some of the ankle area is what feels loose to me and that helped out. That way I don't need thicker socks on it too. Don't know how the "sock anklets" will troop when I try it out, but it feels a little better on me.
