Good afternoon from Deepest Darkest Essex in the UK I have been drawn, inextricably, into the realms of the White Side by friends and colleagues. Im normally a Steampunk person, and lately been drawn into the Cosplay fraternity by my most beloved Daughter. I find myself now being pulled into the future and a Galaxy far far away......... Yes, I have dared to venture into the realms of the Storm Trooper. Now, i normally Cosplay The Undertaker, and shall be Cosplaying Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier version), so as you can already guess, i'm a pretty big guy . I rushed in before even looking at this site and purchased (second hand, i may add) a storm trooper outfit, only to find the manufacturers version to be seriously slated here However, the money is spent and its now what i'm stuck with. It was , however, an absolute bargain. Especially as much of the clear protective film covering the armour is still in place. Its something i can hopefully work with, but you may find me asking what appears to be really stupid question. I've watched Ritchie Stormtroopers you tube guides and absolutely loved every minute on the practicality side, and the first thing i realised was that attaching the armour by the supplied method was absolutely Sponge Bob Square Pants {Yes, its the stormtrooper-costumes deluxe extra large set..... please don't send me your commiserations), so it looks like i'll be making up some elastic tabs and popper sets. and making a proper job of it whilst being able to fit into the armour without an entourage of costume dressers accompanying me. I'll also be Weathering the costume and helmet for the sand trooper look. No children's sandpit will be safe from me or cats now.. My idea is not to actually be true to original, but to pass first glance and second double take, but there'll be no fooling the die hard officianado with this outfit, i'm afraid, but it would be nice for it to stand up to a little scrutiny at least. Anyway, ill stop rabbiting on and get on with stripping all that bleeding self adheisive velcro out i think. Best wishes, Steve1 point

Here we go, first pictures just came in: As I always said, the weathering is spot-on in my eyes, all in all it's a matter of lighting and a good person behind the camera. I am 100% pleased with what came out of this built. There are minor changes I but nothing big. The changes I want to do: Extending the gloves so they don't slot put this easily. Rubber band on the undershirt so I can fix it to my hand and save myself from constantly pulling it up. Giving the shoes to a shoemaker to get a thinner shaft because it's quite tight with the shin armor Some more push buttons to prevent slipping of some parts while moving. Weathering the shores (totally forgot that, my bad) 🤣 Blaster handles. Neck seal (I used another one as I the other one slipped out too often)1 point

@ukswrathHi Tony! We miss you here. If you were here, I would have dropped this build off at your house, and it would've been redone to perfection months ago. A fellow trooper from the garrison was admiring my sweet fan setup in my helmet after a troop on Friday night. (Her fans failed, and I was showing her how I could switch on one fan or both fans with your awesome system that slides right into the base of the helmet.) So, I've gotten more done on the build. @gmrhodes13 Thank you for the helpful links and build threads. Restrapping the abdomen and dropping five pounds fixed the issue with the side closing up. If it still looks wonky, I can always add a shim. I'm always up for a good challenge. Continuing on with the story of fixing this build, most of the snaps had to go. They were very hard to close even after I oiled them and my husband couldn't get most of them snapped either. It felt like it took so much pressure to close the snaps it would snap the plastic. Not good. They had to go. Straps in the shoulders worked fine, so those got to stay. Everything else was tossed into my "maybe I'll have a use for it in another build" drawer. So, this overlapping medieval strapping system was transformed into something that looked like the side strapping on my other TK and now does not overlap. This also helps the other side align better. My husband and I both decided the backplate needed to be trimmed down to look proportionate to my frame. Not a lot, but it did need to be resized. We are fortunate we have done this once before. We keep using the other set of armor for reference to know how big the pieces should be. So, this is the untrimmed backplate as it looked when I was trying it on at an armor party in the beginning of August. (One shoulder is not fully strapped in these pics.) Trimmed off just a little bit since you can always take off more later. I'm double-checking the CRL for what it says about return edges on the backplate. It doesn't. We decided to add a return edge since we will need it to install the "bracket" strapping system. Creating a nice straight return edge using the heat gun and a wooden cutting board. The cutting board helped ensure the new return edge was nice and straight like it had been created from a mold. My husband used a Dremel and pliers to remove the extra snaps. I couldn't watch as I was worried he was going to Dremel through the armor. But, all four snaps came off, leaving the piece clean and ready for brackets to be installed. While the heat gun was out, some gentle reshaping of the kidney piece to bring that side piece in more, (to "close the gap.") Comparing the new backplate to the old one to double-check how we are doing with sizing. The new backplate has more return edges under the arms and on the sides. But, as long as they aren't digging in and it looks proportionate, they can stay. On the old armor, we created shims to hold the brackets. This worked well as the brackets never broke or cracked the armor even during ten years of heavy trooping. It is one of the few areas of the armor that hasn't cracked. So, we are going to do this method again and add the extra shims to the return edge to hold the brackets. The armor is starting to look more like something that will fit me and that I'd actually want to wear. My husband couldn't keep the names of all the armor pieces straight, so I helpfully added labels to help with my vocabularly. The brackets and screws were tricky to track down. TrooperBay doesn't make them anymore and my original ones came directly from RS Props. (I bought their strapping system.) Fortunately, we have a stormtrooper chat within our garrison and I've been posting over there about this build. One of my garrisonmates knew of someone through his First Order build group that knew someone that could get these brackets. To make a long story long, I got the right brackets, screws and straps. I'm undecided about what to do about the connection between the kidney and the buttplate. The current straps seem to be holding it well My husband thinks it needs two more straps. On my original TK, the kidney and butt plate are connected by brackets. Open to advice on what to do about this area. This particular area of the armor seems to fit well as it is. OK, that's enough for today. I'll do a post to catch up on the progress of arm and thigh strapping in another post.1 point

62. 2024-09-27, Bokmässan Göteborg 2024 (Gothenburg Book Fair), Göteborg (Hero) 63. 2024-09-28, Bokmässan Göteborg 2024 (Gothenburg Book Fair), Göteborg (Hero) 64. 2024-09-29, Bokmässan Göteborg 2024 (Gothenburg Book Fair), Göteborg (Hero) Update! We attended Sweden's by far largest convention! The Gothenburg Book Fair attracts a lot of famous people and from all over the country, and we're breaking new ground here by showing up here where we met people we wouldn't normally get to meet, since this isn't a Sci-fi convention or anything like that. The reception from the people at the fair was amazing, and we could tell that it was most of the people's first time seeing Stormtroopers in real life! Normal and famous people alike, they acted like children around us and donated a lot of money to our cause, which was the Children's Cancer Fund! We stood on the space stage, where they blasted Imperial March in the speakers! I had a little private spot all to myself in the dressing room Peek-a-boo I surprised our trooper @TK 17229 that had been there the day before I arrived! Reunited! Watching our Swedish astronaut Marcus Wandt on the space stage Of course he got to meet some real space people! He has joined the dark side, he'll do anything to get back into space! We got arrested, apparently - Empire laws don't apply on this planet... We had a new recruit to the Emperor's cause! Arresting famous people is awesome! This guy was a children's television show host for 20 years and is like Sweden's sweetheart! Me and @TK 17229 I'm not in the following picture, as I stood guard at the other side of the room, but we had this hilarious segment. A loud reading by Chewie, and then interpreted by Luke, so that the children could understand what the story was about! It was a story inspired from other children's stories that a member had cooked up which we called "Three Little Troopers". It was a huge success and extremely fun to be a part of!1 point

Welcome, Matt! (I'm from the GGG and am the one who suggested you start this thread.) Looks like you're making good progress! If you haven't noticed already, you're very limited in the size and number of photos you can upload directly to the forum, so we suggest you host your photos elsewhere (eg imgur or similar) and embed links instead. And if you haven't already, definitely peruse the other build threads here to get guidance and inspiration from folks who have already completed their builds or are farther along. Looking forward to seeing your progress!1 point
