Dee, Asia, and Ayden ( Vince’s wife and children) have shared the following message on Vince’s Facebook page: “Our family is at a complete loss for words. Vince’s sudden passing has deeply affected us all. We know that many of you are also feeling this heartache and disbelief. Please know that you are in our thoughts as well. We encourage you to lean on one another during this time. For now, we kindly ask for time and space to process and grieve privately, and request that there be no social media posts for the time being. Thank you to everyone who loved, knew, and supported Vince. Dee, Asia, and Ayden" We ask that you respect their need for privacy during this incredibly difficult time. As requested, please refrain from posting anything on social media. Condolences to his family, friends, garrison and squad "Buckets Off" Greetings troopers, We are now past the half way mark in this term and we've managed to do quite a bit, despite the unusual start. Just making the last newsletter @Sly11 was able to announce the first ever Imperial Armored Commando, @Sithtrooper02. This month they have taken it further by passing Level 2 clearance: Expert Infantry! The fact they passed with no comments is a huge testament to the amount of work they put in building an excellent suit that does us all proud. If you would like to join the ranks of the Imperial Commandos you wouldn't go wrong by checking out their build here: Hopefully most of you should have received you racing shirts and are wearing them with pride. If you have not had yours or have yet to pay your shipping costs, please make sure you check in on the sales thread as there have been updates for those affected. With Unquestioned Loyalty Chris Pearson TK-10991 "themaninthesuitcase" Detachment Leader Greetings fellow members, I'd like to thank our Detachment merch officer Jame Silvius (jsilvius) TK-12953, for the huge amount of effort he has put in so far this term. For those who have helmed or assisted in a merch run, you will know just how much work that involves. It's crazy really as you need to keep full records of all transactions, tracking of shipments, packing and sending, fixing discrepancies, sort issues, this list seems endless. That's just helming the run. It doesn't take into account the other duties of the DMBO. James drives discussions in staff on merch ideas, comes up with ideas for designs, juggles our slots and when to use them, plus schedule the full term for timing of release, closures, special events, not to forget the back and forth between multiple vendors trying to get us the best pricing etc., etc., etc. Next time you jump in on one of our awesome merch runs, please take a second to thank James for all his efforts, it's a big job with a Det of our size, and he does it all for the love and our motto Troopers helping troopers. Thank you James for all you do, brining the membership extremely trade worthy and exciting merch. Big job brother and you do it so well. Imperial Attaché patch Imperial Attaché Rocker Imperial Attaché Outstanding Achievement Award With Unquestioned Loyalty Jonatan Östling TK-23592 "Nairy" Attaché Ambassador Master Armorer Program - 2024 Relaunch FISD has many wonderful programs to help members build and submit costumes for our detachment, whether it be a classic Stormtrooper, a First Order Stormtrooper, or even one of the new Imperial Armored Commandos. While our Expect Infantry and Centurion programs get most of the attention, FISD staff wants to relaunch the Armorer Program (Currently called the Master Armorer Program). What is the Armorer Program you ask? Well, it is a program designed to recognize those troopers that go above and beyond to assist themselves and others in getting costumes built, submitted, and approved. One of the goals of all the detachments in the 501st Legion is to help members build and submit costumes that meet and hopefully exceed the minimum requirements of the Legion’s CRLs. Currently the Master Armorer program has the requirement of helping a minimum of 5 members achieve Expert Infantry status. The member must have spent at least 30min physically helping another member with cutting, gluing, sizing, etc, just because they want to help (no money exchanged). The definition of an armorer is “a maker, supplier, or repairer of weapons or armor”. So while we certainly love the feedback that members provide to others on the forums, and the extra steps some do by having video calls to help walk people through issues with their builds, this program requires hands on work. The new program will have the same physical help requirement, but we are going to move from a “wins” system, (where a win was help an individual for 30 min or more) to a points system, and we aren’t limiting it to only Expert Infantry builds. While we are pushing the Advance to 1500 to try and achieve 1500 Expert Infantry members, we recognize that the goal of the detachment is to get FISD members build, submitted, and approved. So we will be awarding points for Basic builds as well. Currently there are 3 levels of the award, FISD Armorer, FISD Senior Armorer and FISD Master Armorer. The new program will add a 4th level at the beginning called the Apprentice Armorer. The point scale will be as follows. 5 points - Apprentice Armorer 10 points - Armorer 20 points - Senior Armorer 30 points - Master Armorer The Armorer candidate would earn points based on what level the member costume they assisted with achieved. If you help with a basic build, you get 1 point, if you help with a EIB build you get 2 points. So a person to basic you get a point, help them again to get their EIB earning another 2 to a total of 3. The thought again here is that we want to help build as many stormtroopers as possible. If you love building armorer and love helping fellow members get their costumes built, then this is the program you’ve been searching for. We look forward to awarding more members with this award as we know how much we all love Troopers helping Troopers. More information can be found here Armorer Rocker Patches Rocker patches are now available for the Armorer Program, there is currently just the one patch, and members are eligible to receive two of them once they reach Level 2, "Armorer". More information can be found here Want to setup a "Fire Team? the Fire Team program is completely optional, and is intended to help form a common identity and spirit of camaraderie among 501st Legion Stormtroopers in the same geographic area/garrison that troop together. Fire Teams are not officially recognized by the 501st Legion nor the FISD, although they will be able to access a Fire Team sub-forum on the detachment website. You can find more information here. For those interested here is the original discussion on the creation of Fire teams here With Unquestioned Loyalty Mark Ryner TK-4584 "captsafe66" Fire Team Relations So what exactly are and levels? These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! You can find more information on the programs here. For those unaware it is possible to achieve extra awards at Expert Infantry for each additional version costume you have approved, additional awards are not issued with another Expert Infantry number (you are only issued 1 Expert Infantry number) but you will see a star above the award on your profile and the thread title will show [APPROVED] 2nd, [APPROVED] 3rd, [APPROVED] 4th and so on. Multiple EIB award recipients and info here NOTE If you are approved with a "2nd Version" of a particular costume that you are already approved with you do not receive an additional award, there is only 1 award issued for each costume version ie: only 1 x Hero, 1 x Stunt, 1 x HWT, 1 x ESB, 1 x TFA and so on. If you have a second/additional version costume approved you will see "2nd Version" and [APPROVED] added to the thread title, no additional profile stars (more info on profile awards here) For those of you who have a particular issue (or issues) before or after submitting for Expert Infantry / Centurion level approval, in order to get you an answer faster you can now privately contact the entire Deployment Officer team at one time! Questions about fitting, repairs, CRL standards/requirements or anything pertaining to reaching Levels 2 and 3 are not only welcomed, but encouraged. Keep in mind that no question is too small, and that your queries will only be seen by the D.O. Staff. We are here to help in any way we can, so please feel free to send us a message by clicking on this link: @Deployment Officer Team and we will get back to you A.S.A.P.! The 1500 unquestioned loyalty! 8. Hi Chris, With respect to the biceps cover strips, they are a bit thin for the raised edge proportionally but I think the overall look would be better by trimming some of the biceps seam on both the front and the back to bring the raised edges to the coverstrip instead of widening the coverstrips as this would put them out of proportion with the forearm coverstrips. He seems to have enough room on the biceps to make this trim. Glen's advice was correct to shave down the edges to create a flat base. I see you have already done this. I would add the snap behind the one in place. In front may leave too small an area. As Glen mentioned, you could always trim a bit in the front of the armour. Try to get the shoulder bridges more central to the back plate tabs as Glen mentioned. The larger tabs on the back of the shoulder bridges will not affect approval, just overall look. For basic approval, this would be fine, but we would ask for it to be moved at Centurion level approval.

  10. Again I'm not a @Deployment Officer Team so you could wait for a response from them, but my thoughts 1. Posterior plate currently has one snap. I'm going to install the second, but am worried the first is somewhat in the middle of where the two should go. Would you place it behind the first one or closer to the opening (cod piece?). I'm leaning towards behind and assume it won't be visible. Is there a spacing recommendation? I agree and I'd put the other behind, you could always trim a little material from the front if they are deemed too far back. 2. Shoulder Bridge table - I know it's recommended to remove the tabs at the rear if possible, but I've got quite broad shoulders and they won't otherwise reach. Would that get a pass? (provided they're squared up and sitting correctly). Only recommended so that's not an issue, BUT the placement on the backplate should be central, either some tighter elastic to hold them or I would remove from the front, reposition so they sit straighter (over a box works for me) and reglue. 3 - My Han snap - It's not perfectly in the corner of the chest plate. I don't want to damage the armour by moving it. I assume there would be some indentation. How much leeway do we have on that? (This is Centurion level, but I thought I should check now, while everyone is being so helpful!) I feel like a shim would look worse than the snap being 3-4mm to the left. This one has come up a few times for centurion, recently here in this EI application, If you did remove (which shouldn't be too hard) you would need to fill with ABS paste, sand and polish so that should also take care of any imprint. Yours is quite a distance from the edge and I doubt it would pass for L3, I'll add a few references. How to make ABS paste You would also need to add some shims on the sides between the Ab and Kidney which would also need filling with ABS paste, sanding and polishing as you can only have one join on the sides: OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Any gap between the abdomen and kidney armor is no more than 1/2" (12.5mm) wide. Any shims used to achieve this effect are of a similar material and color as the abdomen and kidney armor. Shims fit flush and seams are allowed. OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable): Ideally there no gap between the abdomen and kidney armor. Abdominal and Kidney Plate align horizontally at top. A single visible seam line is present.

  11. It was quite scary, but you have to go with the rhythm of the steps, tilt your helmet to the side so that you see the steps better, and just step where it makes sense! A lot harder to do in reality but the thing that helps me is to step out on the half time beat of the rhythm! I may be damaged by playing the drums for my whole life but that's how I did it! 😂 And hold on for dear life!

  13. Troop 66 Toronto , Ontario August 29, 2024 SLC Live 2024 This was an engineering and arts students frosh mixer troop at Toronto Metropolitan University with a sci fi / star wars cantina theme. There was a little bit of concern with it being a freshman / frosh party but as it was a dry event and we had handlers, we felt we would be okay. We were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and respect we were given by the organizers and students, everyone was polite and cordial and we were very well taken care of. With over 1000 students in attendance, this was absolutely amazing. (photo credit Ashvink Photography)

  14. As Andrew posted it's the @Deployment Officer Team who will look after higher level approval so I will defer to them, hopefully they will be along soon. Reference of the button cover, some makers have these with a molded/vac formed ridge around the outside, sanding the back flush improves the look and they lay flatter on the belt. *EDIT* From an EI application Looking at your ABS belt, the buttons covers, (sides and center), seems to be a bit thick . you may want to remove some edge to make then flatter . 15. Hi Chris, Most measurements when provided are still only a guide. Arms usually 15mm is the average yes, but if a mm or 2 are going to make the difference then that is usually ok. No one will get a ruler out and try and scale your images. As an example, some make the front cover strips as close as possible, (mine are actually 16mm wide) and on the rear they make them slightly wider if they need extra room. Thigh cover strips are around 15 - 20, and some have wider on the rear again for extra width if needed. My Ab plate buttons are definitely raised, although only around 3mm. I don't think there will be an issue with yours, but let's see if one of our Deployment officers chimes in with some input. More importantly, your armour needs to fit you well. Proportion to match the wearer is a common sense approach we have always taken, and we have troopers of all sizes in the detachment. Yours looks to fit you well, and only a couple of small dressing adjustments need to be done if you were to take photos for our next level Expert infantry.

  18. So Im going to put this out there. as much as it is an awesome group. Who do amazing things to help those in the community. There is always that very small percentage that is negative. I have chosen to ignore that and get on with what Im doing, that is kitting up as the action figure and making kids and adults smile. I give up my time, that maybe a small amount of time or a couple of days for some events. To raise money. But with that, there is a negative. Might be a small comment like "suck your guts in" (just recently). Now I know I have a bit of a stomach. But that has a lasting effect. And when it comes from a fellow member, hurts that bit more. But I keep doing what I do, because I love it. Im me and you accept it or you dont. But expect that at one time that person may blow up from that comment. Like any normal person. At the end of the day that is what we all are, just normal people. Doing a bit more to help others. As for difficult people submitting for approval. That is out of frustration, also could be because of the negative comments that had been made to them. Goes both ways. But people need to be educated. and those who have been around long enough maybe should help new recruits with the kit they want to get approved. Or maybe inform them they could ask someone who can help them out. We all want to move the Legion forward with more recruits, maybe a little help would go along way to getting them onboard.

  19. I started posting these on the FISD Discord server and thought I might share them here on the forum as well. Discord makes sharing images really easy since you don't need to host them, but I can just throw these on imgur about as easy. But I digress. Lesson 1: a phrase most are likely familiar with. L, O, and N are very easy in Aurebesh, since they're so similar to English. L and N are backwards and O is a round triangle. G is laying on it's side. V is a Y in Aurebesh.
    1 point
  20. A rather easy one, but one of the few things I could think of that shows the X. The 19 has no scope, of course. The X has the scope. And the X is a triangle.
