Troop 60 Burlington , Ontario August 3, 2024 May the north be with you Day 1 I split this troop with a different costume for day 1 and 2. The first day was TK day and day 2 saw my Darth Maul. This is a small and very fun troop. Day 1 is a convention with panels and is attended by the Ontario Star Wars collectors club. Panelists included Roger Christian who I absolutely love to listen to as he talks about working along sideGeorge Lucas on a new hope. Also in attendance were Freddie Thoman from Kenner who designed the ESB toys, Irwin toys, who distributed the toys to Canada in the 70’s and 80’s as well as Brian Lemay, layout artist for Ewoks and Droids cartoons. The second day is open to the public and is a Star Wars collector toy show. Here is a shot for fun from day 24 points

Just celebrated my 20th anniversary in the Legion this past week (7-22-2004 commission date) so I figured I ought to get around to posting my tour of duty, since my ANH TK has been the mainstay of my 501st trooping. I do have 5 other approved costumes but I'll keep my total troop tour of duty logged at the ISG forum, and focus on my TK troops here. I've served in three Garrisons: Southern California (San Diego Squad), Imperial Sands Garrison (Plank Owner), and Northern Darkness Garrison over my two decades in the Legion. Through the years there have been maybe a couple dozen other troops at hospitals and about six more Weird Al concerts I've been in, but I don't have pictures or solid dates to back them up, so I'm sticking with the ones I have confirmed dates & photos of. As I continue to find dates & photos of past troops I'll add them to the list, but some may not be in chronological order. Adding troop data first, then will go back and add photos from events. 1. 7-22-2004 San Diego Comic-Con 2004 - approved, first troop, first parade 2. 7-24-2004 San Diego Comic-Con 2004 Legion Photo 3. 9-27-2004 Battlefront Release Event 4. 5-18-2005 Episode III Premiere 5. 7-16-2005 San Diego Comic-Con 2005 Legion Photo 6. 11-1-2005 Battlefront II Premiere Event 7. 7-20-2006 San Diego Comic-Con 2006 8. 12-28-2006 Holiday Bowl Parade 9. 1-1-2007 Rose Bowl Parade https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/ii237/g60racer/501-2007-rosebowl-03-1024x768.jpg 10. 4-20-2007 Scripps Ranch Elementary Star Wars Night 11. 5-26-2007 Celebration IV 12. 7-28-2007 San Diego Comic-Con 2007 Legion Photo & Droid Hunt 13. 10-13-2007 Weird Al Concert - House of Blues 14. 10-31-2007 Tierrasanta Trunk or Treat 15. 12-27-2007 Holiday Bowl Parade 16. 2-7-2008 Horizon High School Star Wars Night 17. 3-18-2008 Deal Or No Deal Star Wars Special (Trooper #16) 18. 6-1-2008 FARB Middle School Star Wars Day 19. 7-3-2008 Weird Al Concert - Del Mar Fair 20. 7-26-2008 San Diego Comic-Con 2008 Legion Photo & Droid Hunt 21. 12-16-2008 Horizon High School Spirit Week 22. 12-30-2008 Holiday Bowl Parade 2008 23. 7-26-2009 San Diego Comic-Con 2009 501st Panel 24. 7-23-2010 San Diego Comic-Con 2010 501st Panel 25. 7-24-2010 San Diego Comic-Con 2010 Droid Hunt & Legion Photo 26. 6-15-2011 Weird Al Concert - Del Mar Fair 27. 7-4-2011 Coronado 4th Of July Parade 28. 7-23-2011 San Diego Comic-Con Legion Photo & Droid Hunt 29. 10-29-2011 Mira Mesa Fun Festival 30. 6-30-2012 Stormtrooper Olympics at Del Mar Fair 31. 7-4-2012 Coronado 4th Of July Parade 32. 4-23-2005 Star Wars Celebration III 33. 7-13-2012 San Diego Comic-Con Legion Photo 34. 12-30-2012 Holiday Bowl Parade 35. 7-1-2013 Weird Al at San Diego County Fair 36. 7-4-2013 Coronado 4th of July Parade 37. 7-20-2013 San Diego Comic-Con Legion Photo & Droid Hunt 38. 9-6-2013 Mira Mesa Family Star Wars Night 39. 7-4-2014 Coronado 4th of July Parade 40. 7-26-2014 San Diego Comic-Con Legion Photo & Droid Hunt 41. 7-27-2014 Horizon Summer Youth Program Star Wars Day 42. 12-27-2014 Holiday Bowl Parade 2014 43. 3-7-2015 Marshall Middle School Star Wars Day 44. 4-17-2015. 59. 2024-08-03, Visingsö Fly-In, Visingsö island (Hero) Okay, so it was FINALLY time to troop. Almost all of summer has gone and I've been away on various things making it hard to troop, but finally after almost 1.5 months of nothing I've managed to go on the troop of my dreams! Visingsö is an island in the middle of a lake in Sweden, and they had an airplane event, a so-called "fly-in", where people from all over fly in their airplanes and talk to other fellow enthusiasts. Since I'm currently studying to get my private pilots license, this was the perfect troop for me, combining a few of my interests in one go! We went from the main land out to the island the day before the troop was about to happen (yesterday, at the time of writing), and I got to premiere my new tent, sleeping next to my Volvo (yes, I'm that Swedish guy) and next to some sweet airplanes! I was all relaxed inside my tent, looking out over the runway in the sunset, seeing a lot of the airplanes arriving and land greasers (generally speaking, a good landing), with a beer in hand... When I die, this is the heaven I'll go to. No one of my tent neighbours knew what was hiding in the trunk of my car... We started to mingle around, taking pictures with big children and small children, and I was the biggest child of them all, since just being around an airplane just fills my soul with joy - and being in armor on top of that... Just wow! For the most part, we were standing like this, looking up into the sky - seeing all the cool air shows Yes... As I said... We got to take a picture with the two incredible display pilots responsible for one of the coolest shows! Can you guess which guy flew which airplane? I also got to take a little pic next to one of their airplanes A very cool Swedish bomber called the B17 showed up, and this thing is MASSIVE if you compare it to the other airplanes The TIE Pilot tried calming me down when I got excited about the hot air balloon fire! Gloves and helmet off pic after a successful troop! I have sooooo many clips on my phone that I need to sort through now, so many airplanes... Oh btw, counting this one - I've said "airplane" 10 times in this post! Yay me! View more images from this troop1 point

#5. Event: BrickFanExpo Nashville Date: Saturday, 13 July, 2024 Host unit: Midsouth Garrison, Music City Squad Kit: ANH-Stunt (LEGO) Members: self, DS-28824, ID-67201, DZ-49516, DS-81132 This LEGO convention was another stop on the same tour that I trooped at back in February ( Atlanta Brick Con ), so it featured a similar con layout, celebrity/influencer guests, and a photobooth for us 501st members. The convention hall was smaller than Atlanta, and once again was a new venue to me. Upon arriving after the 2.5 hour drive I walked a quick lap around the floor and was pleased to see that the LEGO Masters participants were in the booth right next to us. Easy access! I then kitted up in a space behind some pipe and drape that was barely wide enough to fit my rolling husky bin. It was my first time trooping in Nashville with the Music City Squad, and I was the last to arrive since it was an drop-in open-shift troop with no particular muster time. Mara Jade was accustomed to assisting TKs, and helped me with a shoulder snap, belt closure, and LEGO TD attachment. Check out our gang! It was my first time meeting a jawa that was shorter than me. Like my previous LEGO con in Atlanta, we served as a photo op for con attendees, but luckily there wasn't a continuous line like Atlanta, which made this far more enjoyable. The organizers even let us wander away on the main floor, which made for some fun interactions and I'm sure amusing moments for guests. I wonder if anybody captured photos of me investigating a block formation of LEGO TK minifigures in one of the vendor sales booths. Previously in Atlanta I wore a custom TK belt (and TD!) constructed of LEGO and it blended in so well with my armor that not one person commented on it back in February. Thus I added a little spice this time, recreating a diorama of the Tantive IV boarding. After it, it is one of the most glorious moments for TKs. This time both the blaster (3D printed by @revlimiter) and the belt garnered comments, alongside the normal "why can't you guys aim" and "you need shooting training" statements. How is it that even children provide such commentary?! I also stepped up my game with the blaster and installed a holding mechanism for actual LEGO brick blasters/loudhailers that I gave away to kids. That doesn't count as arms distribution, does it? I had two reload cartridges ready at our gear table, and ended up giving away approximately 80 of them. The kids LOVED them, and some even ran around having blaster battles afterwards. One of the highlights of this troop for me, and really one of the big reasons I wanted to attend at all was because Christopher and Robert, the winners of the fourth season of LEGO Masters would be in attendance. In Atlanta I had arrived too late on the second day to meet them, so this time I reported during the first hour of the opening day. They were very friendly and Christopher was very enthused (as you'd expect) about the mini LEGO blasters hidden in the stock of the lifesize blaster. He even filmed it on his phone! I snagged a couple of their trading cards and had them sign my LM trophy and one of the ammo cartridges for my LEGO belt. Very cool. I also got to meet Mark and Stephen Erickson from season #2, Tim from season #4, and several LEGO Influencers, as the con repeatedly referred to them as. (Is it just me, or is it weird to market the attendance of influencers, specifically identifying them as such? Obviously we might refer to the special segment of lifestyle marketers as influencers, and we could even refer to a particular individual as an influencer, but saying "influencers will be present" just seems odd). Anyway, there were also great builds on display, and I couldn't help for capture some of the SW related ones. I met an influencer. I call this one "Adam's Ride." I call this one @Pugs501's Ride A few of my IG stories and my swag haul: These LEGO cons have really grown on me, so I'm sure I'll continue to attend them in the future. I'm fairly certain there will be one in Huntsville, AL late this fall, and then likely my own city next May, both in addition to Atlanta Brick Con scheduled for February. Who knows what fun MOCs (my own creations) I might build into my LEGO TK belt for those! Perhaps a Death Star setting will be next. Next Planned Troop: Chattanooga Comic Con, Oct 26-27, 20241 point

Troop 21: Swift Current Market Square July 20, 2024 / raised funds for "The Center" which is a youth centre. Currently this is the only local troop for me where I can enjoy a short 5 minute drive verses hours of driving. I sort of inherited this troop from TK55810 who moved out of the city this spring (leaving me as the only local 501st or another other club member here). She had been involved in this troop for long before I was even seriously thinking about becoming a 501st member. It was a bit of a run around as the city normally organized this market and I had made all the arrangements accordingly for a change area at city hall and tents but they ended up turning the whole event over to a third party so I had to start again with an organizing group that was green when it came to the normal troop that had been done here for years. Thankfully it came together pretty much last minute and was a success again. We actually had open access to the city council chambers, no less, for 7 of us to change and come and go as required. This space was directly across the street from the market which made for easy access and we needed it as the air temp quickly climbed to over 30C for most of the 4.5 hours we were trooping. Regular breaks were a must. All photos from my sister-in-law Theresa Busse with one exception as noted on photo 2. Stepping out from city hall the heat immediately was evident, but some of us had done this one before and had a good idea of how we would deal with the day. Not all of the characters managed the entire day. The mandos needed extended breaks. The TKs did it all with just a couple hydration and snack breaks as did everyone else. Photo below by TK55810. The charity brought along a big fan and we had two tents to set up a base camp and do some photos for people. The fan was a lifesaver. I don't think we could have done the day without it. It enabled us to make little tours in the sun and have somewhere to come back to every few minutes. We just started and were waiting for the opening bell. They kick of the market each Saturday in summer with the partner of the week ringing a bell. In this case the partner was "The Center" with us as the support cast. We were led to believe this was a bigger deal than what it was. It was over in 5 seconds with no real mention of the purpose of the SW characters being there. So the photos started off a bit slow until we were able to spread the word that we were there supporting the youth centre. This is something to work on for next year now that the new organizers have a better idea of what we were about. That said we still managed to supplement the donation the city gave to them so we were happy about that as was the charity. Of course there is always time for clowning around. Not sure if this was my style or colour.... Well it was hot. We might have been considered dogs, but I don't think so. Usually we get "robots" comments. TK55810 came back to town for this troop. This guy had to show us his Star Wars tats. Thankfully just on his arm. Always reminds me of my working days when a customer showed me his SW tat on the calf of his leg with his leg up on my desk to do it... I spotted this boss man walking around so I went after him for a photo. While it is true people like to get their photos with us it seems extra special to them when we ask them for their photo. He was beaming as were his parents. The last march of the day is across the street and down the block to a toy store. This has been a tradition since the beginning and I'm sure traffic wonders what is going on. The toy store is always super cooled with A/C and they give us a cold drink. This was the hardest half block walk of the day. The heat on this stretch of the block was even warmer than where we were set up and that walk felt like it went on forever. We're already coming into our end of season time here. The next troops are back to a long drive. I'm hoping to get to at least one of them in August at a race track. There is also a multi-day Star Wars day at the children's hospital but with the timing I'm not sure if I can do both. The hospital would be a first and it also makes me nervous but we'll see. Currently working on this comparison. After posting the photos, I’m gonna go back in and adjust angles to give them their best chance at comparison to the real deal. One that seems to stand out is PewPewCrafts. I was under the impression that because he outputs so much so quickly that it wouldn’t be the most accurate, I seem to be wrong. Lining up these photos has shown me that his work is incredibly close, but missing some final polish. Especially on this current photo, it’s uncanny how close it is. After sitting with these comparisons, I’m confident that I may be able to tweak PPC’s model and improve it. I’ve done some remodeling that I will post about soon once the new parts are printed.1 point

So I made some binder holders out of the earthquake support I got with my shelves for my shed and a strip of aluminum from Lowes. Yes, they aren't ANH accurate, but It's all about making kids smile!1 point

Troop 58 London, Ontario June 18, 2024 London Children’s Hospital we are now starting to do hospital visits again in the post Covid period. This is our second troop and we plan on doing them every couple of months. Small and short troops where we visit the kids and their families in their rooms. we had one little girl who had just watched ANH the day before and she was so excited to see us. One mom came out of the room after we left to let us know that her 10 month old baby started to smile and laugh as soon as we left him. These are the troops that make what we do so worthwhile. Just to see that brief smile or twinkle in their eyes when they are going through such a tough time is such an amazing feeling.1 point
