Good evening members of the FISD, I'd like to thank you for having the confidence in me to fill the role of Detachment Leader. This is not the way any of us would want to be taking this station. Joseph has been an important part of this detachment for as long as I have been here. He embodies Troopers Helping Troopers, and has never shied away from helping others. He was a natural choice for DL. Sadly personal circumstances have made that impossible for him. I wish him the best in this difficult time he finds him self in. Andrew Franke @Sly11 has agreed to step in as XO. His experience is undeniable, and will be a welcome boost as I catch up with this term. Other positions will remain unchanged at this time. Having been thrown in at the deep end my priority is to get a plan for the term up and running. Wheels had already started to turn on a number of projects, though most of which are not ready to share yet. This said I do want to take a fresh look at the year, looking at any carry over from the last term and coming up with a final plan for the year. With unquestioned loyalty. Congratulations Chris( @themaninthesuitcase)!!! I hope that with our help, we can make this a little easier for you. And thanks also to Andrew( @Sly11), who prefers to be with us instead of enjoying his retirement in Hawaii... I would also like to wish Joseph( @justjoseph63) all the best. I hope all is well, brother.5 points

Stefan has been a member of the Austrian Garrison since November 2016. Not only that he represented the Detachment officer excellently with several uniforms. From 2018-2020 he was GMB and from 2019-2020 GPR. He will remain in our memory. Always open, friendly and ready to do the good thing. He also had an open ear when needed. You may have noticed that the name of the detachment leader has changed a bit ahead of the normal cycle. To see how we got here please have a read of this post https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/54568-resignation-of-detachment-leader-joseph-justjoseph63/ and https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/54596-message-from-new-detachment-leader/ A familiar face is coming back as the new XO @Sly11 and he will be showing me the ropes. By now most of you should have been receiving your shield patches from the last term. The DMBO team did a great job on these, and I look forward to seeing them on jackets, hoodies & shirts soon. I am excited to show mine off but I am putting off sewing that big back patch! Whilst there have been some changes over the last week, the team had already been hard at work for the new term. Now that legion teams are starting to be ratified we should soon see some movement and hopefully will have more to tell you next month. We are also happy to allow appearances at theaters screening The Phantom Menace during this time. All fans, costumed or otherwise, can participate with venues of their choice within this window with the restriction that costumed appearances must not be used in the advertising for the event. Although these appearances will be treated like an open invite, weāll leave it to the fan groups to independently organize around these events as they see fit. These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! You can find more information on the programs here. For those unaware it is possible to achieve extra awards at Expert Infantry for each additional version costume you have approved, additional awards are not issued with another Expert Infantry number (you are only issued 1 Expert Infantry number) but you will see a star above the award on your profile and the thread title will show [APPROVED] 2nd, [APPROVED] 3rd, [APPROVED] 4th and so on. Multiple EIB award recipients and info here NOTE If you are approved with a "2nd Version" of a particular costume that you are already approved with you do not receive an additional award, there is only 1 award issued for each costume version ie: only 1 x Hero, 1 x Stunt, 1 x HWT, 1 x ESB, 1 x TFA and so on. If you have a second/additional version costume approved you will see "2nd Version" and [APPROVED] added to the thread title, no additional profile stars (more info on profile awards here) For those of you who have a particular issue (or issues) before or after submitting for Expert Infantry / Centurion level approval, in order to get you an answer faster you can now privately contact the entire Deployment Officer team at one time! Questions about fitting, repairs, CRL standards/requirements or anything pertaining to reaching Levels 2 and 3 are not only welcomed, but encouraged. It worked!!! It took multiple attempts and I got glue in a lot of places, but the forearm is generally put together and I can fit my hand and arm through without cutting off circulation!!! After letting the glue dry for 48 hours I removed the clamps and magnets. I was a little concerned about how well I overlapped the cover strip with the edges of the forearms, but it appears I decently centered the cover strip across the gap! The wrist area is wide enough to accommodate not only my wrist, but also allow me to tuck in the edges of my gloves! I will need to do some cleanup work to remove the glue that ended up getting all over the cover strip and the edges. Removing the glue will then allow me to properly add the ABS shims to fill the current channel in the forearm armor. Some trimming is also needed for the return edges near my elbow. The outer side looks as it should! As I finally found a good way to construct the forearms I will construct the other forearm piece in the same way! It feels great to be making progress again!1 point

All costume approvals go through a local GML (garrison membership liaison) you will need to reach out to the Garrison that covers your area, I believe that would be Golden Gate Garrison https://www.501stggg.com/ GML: Ricky Resurreccion(TX 74259) GML@501stGGG.com GWL: Sha Sha Chu(TK 19233) shashachu@gmail.com1 point

This is the same issue I had with my kit. As Glen indicated, I think this results from the way the kit is made. This is one of those situations where it would be good to check with your GML to see what guidance they can provide. I had to try twice to get my sniper knee into the right position. Also, I still have about 1 or 2 mm of a gap between the front cover strip and the sniper knee itself. This wasn't an issue for me as it is on the underside of the sniper knee where it really isn't seen.1 point

Unfortunately in can just be how the armor pieces have been made, many are near on impossible to get symmetrical, I've used heat before to twist the front section so it sits straighter but that's my OCD kicking in. At the end of the day most may not notice it, ultimately it's your GML who has to approve it.1 point

An airbrush helps when painting figures in this scale. But when painting shadows and highlights it helps to be aware of color theory and not to be afraid to mix in other colors. White is one of the most difficult colors to paint in my opinion. Lil Nairy is a fun challenge.1 point

A major benefit of teaching college/university courses in communication is the relative ease of connecting the subject matter to what we experience in daily life. Although this results in thinking of my academic discipline a little too much during my off hours, I (and my students) benefit from bringing lots of cool and interesting ideas into the classroom to enagage course concepts in various ways. Working through this habit, the question arose: How can I connect being a professor and a stormtrooper? The series Social Science with a Stormtrooper grew out of this question. These are supposed to be short videos of up to a few minutes that connect a specific concept in the social sciences (mostly within Communication Studies) to Star Wars. The most relevant and believable context for these videos is an academy for stormtroopers, with me playing the role of an instructor who helps stormtroopers with their abilities in interpersonal interaction. In these videos, I try to use plain language to avoid the lecturing and academic-speak common in college classrooms (not sure if I hit the mark). I hope these videos will eventually be a teaching tool for the classroom, but I thought it would be best to show some of the videos here first. I've also thought about posting these videos on Instagram for public consumption. This video (helmet hair and all) is a test to see what I did well and to determine what needs improvement. I had created a basic script and worked from memory during the recording. Clearly, I need to improve the video quality the next go around. I am also thinking about how to make the video itself more engaging, because the plain background seems pretty dull. Given all the flaws, this video is currently unlisted on Youtube, so it can only be accessed through the link here. If anyone is interested, give it a watch and let me know what you think!1 point
