  1. So if you're shaping your own TD clips then you don't need to worry about the dilemma I had about the raised or lowered option because you can size/trim the clips to your needs. "Raised" vs "lowered" was relevant to me at the time because I had prefabricated clips that were designed for the larger diameter tubes. Basically you should aim for what is technically the "lower" posture of the tube as it related to how the panel is pointing back (you don't want to knob aimed too high), but the "raised" placement of the tube relative to your canvas belt. For those of you reading, here is the image for context: And by the way, my final thermal detonator is a larger 68mm diameter one from AM, versus the smaller 2" diameter ATA one from my build thread.

  2. Today I decide to start my journey in creating my ANH Stunt Stormtrooper armor kit. I am already in contact with the GML in my country and I am receiving all the necessary support and advice. I hope to soon be part of the ranks of Outpost Venezuela as an official member of the 501st Legion and continue adding to this noble cause and fascinating universe of Star Wars.

  3. Hello Everyone, I have been looking to start my TK Build for quite some time. Slowly but surely, I have been printing out parts for a ROTK. I have recently moved to Virginia, and am extremely new to the forums, and a wee bit nervous after navigating my way around the "Getting Started" forums. Nevertheless, I am excited to get through my very first build and would be greatly appreciative of any constructive criticism, or helpful pointers for my build! Some Administrative Information: I am printing off of a Creality CR-10 V2, With a build volume of 300 x 300 x 400 mm. Majority of the project will be done with Zyltech PLA. 1.75mm diameter To scale the armor to myself, I am using "Armorsmith Designer" to the best of my ability. The files I am using are from Pewpewcrafts.com (any modifications to the actual armor I need to do will be post printing as I am not a blender wiz) Above is the preview of the 3D model from pewpewcrafts website. First piece I decided to print was the Helmet. for 2 reasons 1: The Helmet is going to need the most attention out of all pieces of the armor (in my opinion). As it has multiple greebles I needed to print separate to the bucket, it has the most "complex" paint job in comparison to the rest of the suit. 2: Its the coolest part! Therefore, I need to do it first, right? This being said, The Helmet after being scaled in Armorsmith Designed is ever so slightly too large for my printer. To work around this, I cut the file into 3 seperate parts. -The face, cut just behind the ear. -The back of the Helmet, which is the ear and behind. -The top of the helmet which I cut just under the brim of the "eyebrow".

We have just established contact with the largest hospital in Sweden and we are going to make this a reoccuring thing! We said hello at all the different parts of the hospital, and I got to play some ping pong as well! Me showing off the new merch for the lousy people who forgot to order! We always look so good in our Stormtrooper reserve gear!

  5. I've been printing, sanding, applying XTC-3D, and cementing the cover strips lately. Everything is printed now which feels good to complete. Everything is also sanded. I did a very rough sanding with a belt but then did everything else by hand. Most cover strips have been coated with the XTC-3D sealant by now. I discovered the craft brushes below that I wish I knew about before! They made the application of the sealant and cement so much easier and more precise. I highly recommend them when using the XTC and J-B Weld. So far, the upper arms and forearms have the cover strips cemented on. The thighs and lower legs are next. I also printed, sanded, coated, and cemented the vertical strip of the abdomen center detail.

  6. I decided that I couldn’t wait until warmer Spring weather to make progress on the thermal detonator, and because I had a number of other paint projects pending, I constructed a little spray booth. The walls are 10 mil vinyl, which have miniscule thermal mass, but it’s enough to contain a small space, and not have the heater running for hours to get up to temperature. In about 20 minutes, I got from 55F to 70F. 70F is the minimum temperature specified by Testors. I kept the spray can and the tube in there to warm up a bit longer, then got to painting with two coats of Testors 1237 spray primer: Looks like I also primed the thermometer! I was going to leave the heater on for a while after this, but then started to get paranoid that volatile fumes + electric spark = no more workshop. So I turned it off. I let this dry for ~24 hours, then applied 3-4 coats of the Testors 1260 Dullcoat. Here’s hoping it’s good enough! While waiting for the paint to dry (haha), I think I’ll work on shaping the bars using the other piece of sacrificial PVC that I had bought earlier. This way, I could get the curves right without risking scratching the paint off of the real thing. Hi @MaskedVengeance, I had another look at the TD part of your build thread - which choice between ‘2” raised’ and ‘2” lowered’ did you end up going with?

Need Help Ask the Deployment Officers Advance to 1500 Advanced Tactics Awards Newsletter Editor Staff List 2024 Follow FISD From our legion founder, Albin Johnson (TK-210) It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of TK/TD124, the legendary George "Old Sarge Oberon" of Garrison Carida. The oldest active Stormtrooper in the Legion, Sarge was there at the very beginning of Vader's Fist. His list of troops reads like a history book of the club. For decades he could be found at all the biggest Legion events, always in armor and always working the booth or a droid hunt or just on patrol. But always with a grin and a kind word for everyone. The 501st did not have a flashy start. It took volunteers doing hard work at events that no one had heard of. But Sarge was there, laying the very foundation blocks of the Empire. He was even at one of the earliest commanders' meetings. His advice was practical, even-handed. He wasn't there to impress. He was always there to serve. Most of all, he was a good friend. Whenever we met in our years of Star Wars adventures, he'd pat me on the back and tell me what a great time he was having. It is no exaggeration to say he was the epitome of the Legion spirit. I wish all the new kids in the Legion could know what a goat really is - Oberon was it. He was legend. I'm honored to have known him. Rest well, Sarge. Your patrol is done. May we always live up to your example. It has been an absolute pleasure and a total honour to have been the commanding officer of this fine detachment for the last 4 years. In that time we brought the FISD forums into the new age with a huge amount of effort from all the staff. We worked diligently to make sure this was a friendly detachment for everyone, not just those inspired to join the 501st. That is important because ultimately, we want everyone to make their Stormtrooper dreams become a reality. We brought new sections, new colours and new reasons to want to be a member here with working to enlist costumes that were not only exciting but not all hard armour for FISD. We brought us closer to other detachments and now our relationship with them is better than its ever been. You can see our list of the work we achieved in my post here . In closing out on this chapter for my tenure as Detachment leader of FISD, I would like to wholeheartedly thank all the members that make this place as good as it can be every day. To the staff who believed in my visions, to not only support them but exceed all expectations, and embody our unofficial motto of Troopers helping troopers in everything they do. We are in very good hands with our new leader Joseph, who not only understands the importance of this magnificent collection of research and incredible encyclopaedia of Storm trooper knowledge, but also lives the motto and understands how important you all are at keeping this forum alive and well. I will still be around, although taking a background role in maintaining the forums and assisting Joseph in creating whatever he requires to continue revitalising our forums and keeping us relevant for new comers and old. Once again, thank you for your support over these years, thank you for supporting the team and also in continuing that supporting Joseph and the new additions to the FISD staff. On behalf of staff, members and the whole community we give thanks to you for steering the ship for 4 long years, for all your hard work, your confidence, support and guidance, your passion is unquestionable and your dedication is beyond reproach. Very few can even imagine the time and effort you have put in to the role and the rest you are now facing is well deserved. Undoubtedly you have made a big impact on a lot of our community, you leave a great legacy and you will always be remembered and admired. From your detachment, we salute you If you would to read more of what work was undertaken and completed over those 4 years head to this thread Greetings Fellow Troopers First off, let me thank you for being so supportive of me and the merchandise runs these past 2 years. I hope that I have provided quality products and service to all. With @justjoseph63 winning the election for DL here at FISD I'm very happy to announce that I will be staying on for another term as FISD's MBO. Recently Legion had a vote and passed some very comprehensive and streamlined rule changes on Merchandise and Branding (you can read about them here) which will change the way we do some of our standard merch. I am in talks with our new leader about merch for this term, and hopefully will have a plan that we can share to everyone before the March Newsletter. Let me tell you, I'm excited about some of the ideas that he has presented to me and I'm looking forward to sharing them with the troopers! Old Business The first annual Detachment Merchandise & Branding Officer End of year merch sale was a hit. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough items to cover everyone that wanted something. I hope to do this again next year and have already ordered a few extra items. You can read updates here. 1st Annual DMBO Merch Sale No new news on the #SecretMerch Item. The factory in China has been closed for the observation of Chinese New Year. Pfab tells me that he expects to have an update in the next week. but still believes that coins will be shipped early March. So We'll keep and eye on that. Secret Merch Item The shield patch run is complete and all patches have been mailed. Thank you to everyone for your understanding with some of the delay in shipping. I can't wait to see some folks post up their patch jackets, shirts, and other uses for their patches. Wear them with pride my fellow troopers. Here is where my first small patch went. 2023 Patch Run The Rocker run is closed. @MaskedVengeance has started sending payment request for these orders and will be placing the order soon, so hopefully they will be in your hands in the next 6 - 8 weeks. I'm very jealous of those that can wear these. I'm working on building my new AM kit to EI standard so that I can help "Advance to 1500". Rocker patches. New Business We were able to get two more items approved for the end of term. The first being the reissuing of the 501st Legion Stormtrooper banner patch. We reissued it in the standard red and black Legion color scheme that it was original issued in on it's first run and opened it to the legion. In addition, we added a version that is more closely aligned to our Detachment color palette, it is blue and white and exclusively for FISD members. This run is open until 24 FEB 2024 so please be sure to get your orders in. Stormtrooper Banner Patch Please remember to take time to check out your local, Legion and detachment elections. Participation in these helps guide the direction of these units. If you have any thoughts, suggestions, comments or concerns about FISD Merch or Branding, my "virtual" door is always open. You can find more information on the programs here. For those unaware it is possible to achieve extra awards at Expert Infantry for each additional version costume you have approved, additional awards are not issued with another Expert Infantry number (you are only issued 1 Expert Infantry number) but you will see a star above the award on your profile and the thread title will show [APPROVED] 2nd, [APPROVED] 3rd, [APPROVED] 4th and so on. Multiple EIB award recipients and info here NOTE If you are approved with a "2nd Version" of a particular costume that you are already approved with you do not receive an additional award, there is only 1 award issued for each costume version ie: only 1 x Hero, 1 x Stunt, 1 x HWT, 1 x ESB, 1 x TFA and so on. If you have a second/additional version costume approved you will see "2nd Version" and [APPROVED] added to the thread title, no additional profile stars (more info on profile awards here) For those of you who have a particular issue (or issues) before or after submitting for Expert Infantry / Centurion level approval, in order to get you an answer faster you can now privately contact the entire Deployment Officer team at one time! 9. Hovi Mic Tips have been attached with E600. The Frown still needs to be painted Gray. and I have a few parts I need to address on the helmet. Some of the helmet has some black speckles on it from when I taped off and sprayed the brow black. There was slight leaking and I plan to fix this by blocking the black off with painters' tape and spraying the helmet with white once more. I also have a few parts that I need to re-sand to make it smoother as in the right lighting, I can still see some layer lines. Prior to this, I need to add some Bondo to fill in the small gaps where I glued together the 3 sections of the helmet from printing. Pictured Below: As per the last picture, the CRL States: "Any gap between the ears and the helmet will only appear to be a seam, not any bigger." I am unsure if the current gap is too large, or if I will need to fill in the gap. and if so, must I fill this gap completely? Separate from the Helmet, I have printed the Butt-Plate, Cod Piece, Front and Back Belt, Thermal Detonator and the "O II" Details for the back plate. I mentioned earlier that I had a few rolls of small amounts of filament left over from larger prints, and I used those rolls for these pieces. A real Filament killer is how much support these parts need. To save filament I recommend either cutting your print to fit to your build plate in several pieces or orient your prints in a few directions to see what costs the least amount of filament. With that being said, it would also help you with cleaning your prints off afterwards if you make sure that any of the detailed parts do not have a lot of support around it. You can see my mistake in the 3rd picture below. First, I will say that I moved across the United States, and a few of my printed parts were damaged in the move. It's nothing that some superglue, Bondo, and paint can't fix though! I also ran into a slight issue with my printer once I unboxed it. I was in a new climate, and I do not have a heat shield to help retain the printer's temperature, so it loses a lot of heat in radiation. Secondly, as I was excited to start up my printer and get going on my TK, I did not ensure that the printer bed was leveled still! I have a few small scratches on my printed, but nothing that requires a new bed. Previously, I had been printing with just the bed and nothing on it to help with adhesion other than heat. Over time, my bed became dirty, and it needed cleaning. MAKE SURE YOUR PRINTBED IS CLEAN! I have sense put blue painters' tape on my printed to help with adhesion. I started up the 1st piece of the chest, and as it reached 90% completion, the PLA unstuck from the bed, and I had a big spaghetti mess of plastic when I checked after I ate my dinner. I restarted the print after leveling the bed. and again, around 90% it failed. But this time, I had a layer shift. You can see the layer shift at the very top of the chest piece. What happened was the adhesion to the build plate was not strong enough, and when the extruder moved back and forth, it pushed the print slightly to its side. From here, I used Elmers stick glue in combination with the blue painter's tape. I put a small bit under the tape, and an even layer on top of the tape to give the 1st layer something to really grab onto and stay. After this, the prints were coming out fine. In the last 2 weeks, I have printed the Main Chest, and Back plates. With support on still With Supports removed

  10. After the wet sanding was complete, I hit it with several coats of white to ensure that none of the original color of filament would be seen through the base coat. At this point the arms have been hit to their extent for paint. I'm going to wait to rig everything together until I have completed the painting on the entire suit. The helmet traps, tears, and ears were sanded and painted separately in the similar way to the rest of the helmet. Attaching was done with E600 Glue. The helmet after black on the brow, gray in the tears and traps. Still need to attach the rear traps and paint the teeth gray. Additionally, I have to add the backing for the frown, vents on the cheeks. Wire that I used for the Hovi mic tips are actually mesh I cut out from cricket containers I ordered from Josh's Frogs.

  11. And there is the 1st chunk of the Helmet finishing up on the print bed. I had a partially used roll of PLA Filament from a previous print and it ran out with the last 3% to go, so I had to pause the print and load in a brand-new roll. After this, I made sure to keep track of how much each print would require prior to starting it up.

  12. It seems that our favored Uniform/Armor project is suffering from an actual name. While this Detachment has (correctly) named this armor the Imperial Commando, I feel an upgrade is in order, simply for the fact that there is already an "Imperial Commando" world (a little Google Fu showed a much different looking trooper). So howzabout an upgrade? Wookiepedia already shows "Imperial Armored Commando", with very limited information and some photos. There are also titles of "Imperial Mandalorian Commando" (or similar) floating around as well. My vote is for Imperial Armored Commando. During their first encounter with Moff Gideon's Finest, someone in DJ's group hollers out "they're wearing Beskar!" or something similar. For that reason, I think the IAC name fits. The Imperial Commandos have their world, now we have ours! What are your thoughts?

  13. Great discussion topic Guy. We should, if we can find the information, refer to them as LFL does. I vaguely recollect something on Starwars.com, which could be where the Imperial Commando's came from. Once we have clarity, we should go with the LFL canon.

  17. Going great guns on this build so far. How many hours of printing has it been now?

  18. I used @ukswrath build on the Detonator where he lays out how to bend the clips for it. It worked wonders.

  19. As they say, Proof is in the pudding. Before I can finish with the barrel prep work I need to get my Leds installed and more importantly, see if what I bought will work. I got these red fairy lights from Amazon that were 16 feet long. I'm a little apprehensive about how bright they will be because these leds require 3 AA batteries and my setup with this particular blaster the board needs 3 AAA's. I plan to fold the lights back and forth, the length of the barrel which will help with increasing the brightness of the lights. Hence the main reason I need to test this in the barrel. I must say, It worked great! https://i.imgur.com/Gw35aFl.mp4 So with this 3d kit There is an inner support pvc tube for the barrel that was going to hamper me from getting the folded LEDS down the length of the barrel so I pulled out the Dremel with a grinding disk to notch out the area where the LEDS would not pass though. It was heartbreaking! But never fear! Bondo paste is here! This can easily be fixed with a generous amount of Bondo paste sandpaper and needle files. I'll let this cure overnight and work on sanding and shaping tomorrow. On a side note, this kit is missing a barrel part but I'm not too concerned because this is going to be a FUN gun for trooping and I've already got a great E-11 I can use for upper lvl approval when I get around to it. Can you point out the part? ( Elton John's sanding picture is the best place to see it!) I couldn't until it was too late which is par for the course for me. I'm good at fixing mistakes is all I'm saying! Thanks for the idea of using a toy guy for the electronics @gmrhodes13

  20. [64] 03.02.2024 -- Retro Amour, Day 1 First troop of the year! I have no idea, just why I expected the event to be less boring this time around, but similar to last year there was minimal interest in us and it was a pretty small convention. However, we did not let that stop us from having fun. We took pictures with the few people who wanted to take pictures with us, listened to the frequent Ghostbusters song playing at the booth across, quite a few of us bought merchandise, and we simply used the time to catch up with each other. It was great seeing so many familiar faces and getting to troop with my former squad once more! [65] 04.02.2024 -- Retro Amour, Day 2 Not only were there fewer visitors on the second day, but also our white plastic got reduced to myself and a scout. Instead we had a group of Tuskens and quite a few pilots with us on Sunday. To pass the time, we did booth duty, patrolled the convention and stumbled across some retro games that had been set up. Can't believe I didn't find them the previous day -- they were really fun, even if I spectacularly lost at Mario Kart. DZ-88900, TB-88723 and I went to catch some fresh air at some point in the afternoon and almost caused a few cat accidents by standing next to the street on the sidewalk. Luckily, traffic was slow so nothing actually happened. In general a very quiet troop. Still, thank you to DZ-88900 for letting me stay at his place, so I could attend this troop in the first place! 21. The biceps and forearms are taking shape! Continuing the theme, I needed to make...modifications...(I could probably stop emphasizing that at this point)... The biceps are glued together and now I will turn to trimming the return edges. The bottom of the bicep armor will definitely benefit from return edges being just about fully cut down, because that will allow my biceps to go through the armor much easier. The top return edges will be reduced to the extent needed to reduce armor bite, but some return edge will remain for appearance (although, part of me says that doesn't matter too much as that will not be that visible when wearing the armor). The image below shows the interior joint on the bicep armor. I kept 1.4cm of excess material (7mm on each side of the joint) in place to increase the circumference and accommodate my biceps. The molded-in cut lines will be covered over with ABS paste to smooth out the appearance, with the only seam remaining being that of the joint itself. I ended up leaving the excess in place (rather than putting shims in here) because the structural strength would be stronger, and because this saved me the additional time it would take to cut the excess off, add shims and interior cover strips, and then close eveything up. The benefit of having the excess material in this location is that this joint will be facing my sides most of the time and, thus, any view of this joint will usually be obscured. The joint on the exterior side of the bicep armor was constructed as per the design. The forearms will require additional work. I have glued the overlapping joint for each forearm piece, but the interior joint (the one that will face my sides when my arms are down) will require additional finessing to make sure the pieces join up properly. I will need to do some heat treating with boiling water to allow both sides of the joint to line up properly prior to gluing. As can be seen, excess material was retained here as well. I left on as much as I could (about 8mm of excess for each side of the joint), but I am questioning if that is enough. I'll have to see after I shape the pieces to be able to properly line up the sides of the joint, as well as determine how much return edge needs to be removed from the wrist area (probably most of it). The return edges in the vambrace area will be trimmed down as well, but much of it will be retained as the vambrace is a highly visible area.

  24. Looking like you are making some good progress. I would echo glen though and make sure you are checking the CRL so there are no issues or heart ache.

  25. Not sure if you have heard of this trick or not but if you go over with a very, very light mist coat before sanding it can show high and low spots.

  26. After the entirety of the Helmet was printed, I began the process of sanding, sanding, sanding. I chose to keep all of the parts separate so I could manipulate the pieces and get into the crevasses easier. It took me several days to completely sand the helmet, and glue it together with E6000. Sanding the small greebles was very time consuming because of the fine details in the ear and getting in the teeth holes. I used Bondo Glazing and spot putty as well as Rustolium sand-able filler and primer in combination with grits of sandpaper going from 80 grit up to 400 grits. After finishing each piece, I assembled the main helmet. From here, I sprayed it with a new color to help me see any imperfections that I had missed previously. I then went over the entire helmet with 800 grit and a wet sand to ensure it was nice and smooth. At this point I had been working on the right arm aswell, doing the same sanding with Bondo and filler primer.
