Need Help Ask the Deployment Officers Advance to 1500 Advanced Tactics Awards Social Media Newsletter Editor Staff List 2023 Follow FISD Greetings one and all to the first FISD Newsletter for 2024! 2023 had its ups and downs for everyone, so I hope this new year is going to be fabulous for all. As we begin to close out on this term, a reminder to all that the Legion election cycle will begin on the 29th of January and conclude with the close of voting on February 13th. Full Election cycle details can be found further down in this edition. Our DMBO officer TK-12953 (James) has done an outstanding job this term in brining some beautiful merch items to you all, but wait, there is more to come, so better get those imperial credits ready because he hasn't finished yet!! That's right, more excitement coming soon, just in case you haven't had your fill yet. Small CRL Update The Rogue One TK and associated costumes (Artillery Trooper and soon to be Night trooper), have just undergone a small update at basic level. This update was made to allow the 2 major versions of the ammo belt worn, as seen in both the movie and TV series. The changes are as follows. The R1 belt has a front and rear plastic section. The CRL asked that these were overlapped on the sides a specific way. On screen, we see it overlapped front over back and back over front, so now the CRL simply states it is overlapped on the sides. You chose which way to overlap it. The belt overlaps on the sides The second small change was to allow the lower lip of the belt to be trimmed, as per many screen references. Some were trimmed and some were not, but both are seen as commonly as each other. The bottom edge of the front belt may run flat across the belt, or may be trimmed at an angle near the cod armor to match screen references. Some screen references showing the different trimming of this lower lip. No trimming Trimmed That's the update for January, see you all again in the final addition for the term. With Unquestioned Loyalty Andrew Franke TK-11469 "Sly11" Detachment Leader Greetings Trooper! I hope everyone's New Year is off to a good start. Legion election season is right around the corner, so be sure to check your Detachment status so that you are eligible to vote for the next DL here or in any of your affiliated Detachments, Squad or Garrison. The #SecretMerchItem was appears to have been success. While the run is closed. This run was managed by Pfab, and the last I heard, it may be March before we start seeing these coins due to the shut down in China for the Chinese New Year. I don't have any additional information to share at this time. If I get word about shipping dates or anything, I will update the thread here: Secret Merch Item As of December 29th, the patches have been completed by the factory and are undergoing QC. I'm eagerly awaiting their arrival at my home so I can begin sorting, packing and shipping to membership. Hopefully by the time the newsletter is published, they will have started shipping to members. I will provide updates in the thread located here: 2023 Patch Run The EI and Centurion rockers are still available, Thanks again to @MaskedVengeance for helming this run. For those that qualify the run can be found here: Rocker patches. With the Legion year closing, be sure to order any stickers that you may have been wanting ASAP from Assassin Graphics site. We don't know if they will be renewed next year, all information about how to order them can be found here: 2023 FISD Stickers Now that we've covered the old stuff... With the Legion year coming to a close, I have created the first annual DMBO (Detachment Merchandise & Branding Officer) End of year merch sale. I have collected some extra items and am looking to sell them to fund buying extra items for next year. Normally I buy a few extra items during each merch run in order to offer them to new members, but as I didn't get many request this year, it is time to sell these off. You can learn more about the sale here: 1st Annual DMBO Merch Sale We have two more Merch Items in the works for this legion year. I will post more information about them soon as I have approval from LMBO and LFL. Unfortunately, they will be short runs, as they have to be completed before the end of Feb. So please be checking the forum regularly, and if you have not setup to follow the Detachment Merchandise sections to get email alerts for new post, I suggest that you do so. If you have any thoughts, suggestions, comments or concerns about FISD Merch or Branding, my "virtual" door is always open. Hit me up, you can reach via email, forum DM, or find me on Facebook. With Unquestioned Loyalty James Silvius TK-12953 "jsilvius" Merchandise & Branding Officer With elections starting at the beginning of February it's time to check your detachment affiliation. OK so you look at your Legion profile and it shows that your detachment affiliation to FISD is pending, or otherwise incorrect. Why does this happen, and what is detachment affiliation anyway, and what will FISD do about it? The answer is that detachment affiliation is only ever used once a year, and for one purpose. The only time the Legion ever uses it for anything is to determine who can run for DL and who can vote in detachment elections. That's it. Otherwise it is pretty much ignored and not used for anything. The process of validating detachment membership is cumbersome and time consuming because people use different email information between their Legion and detachment logins, and that there is no way to bulk update the rosters. For a small detachment it is not a big deal to do this manually, but for a detachment the size of FISD with hundreds and soon thousands of 501st members, it's impossible. Fortunately we have technical folk both on FISD and in the Legion web team. Once a year they take a feed from FISD's database and do a bulk update on the Legion database. This occurs right before the election cycle starts and is done once per year. Pro tips: 1) Ensure the email address you use on the Legion & FISD boards are the exact same. 2) Ensure that your FISD profile has the correct TKID. 3) IMPORTANT! You MUST be in the right security group. It should be "501st Stormtrooper" in order for the automated system to pull you over. This thread is where you get your detachment access updated. 4) If after the bulk update is complete and your profile is still not updated, and you are 100% sure your info is in sync between the two boards, then ask for to the Legion web team. They should get feedback on why this isn't working. 5) If all else fails, ping the FISD staff. Which basically means that we'll simply tell the 501st web team to bulk approve everyone 6) If still you have no luck you can contact the legion web team directly via email: lwm@501st.com To check detachment affiliation go to the 501st holocron here, login using your 501st forum username and password, click on YOUR PROFILE DATA, then look down the lower part of the page for YOUR UNIT AFFILIATION, then under DETACHMENT AFFILIATION. If you do not see FISD listed reach out to your GML (garrison membership liaison) as they can add it if you are an approved Stormtrooper. If FISD shows as PENDING contact our DL @Sly11 and request a manual update. 2024 Legion Election Timeline It's coming up to that time of the year again, legion elections are just around the corner. With Unquestioned Loyalty Caleb Mask TK-73692 "MaskedVengeance" Attache Ambassador The FISD Master Armorer program is an optional, detachment only incentive award to recognize individuals who have directly helped another 501st stormtrooper to achieve Expert Infantry status. Some people spend countless hours helping others, and want to reward their results as well as incentivizing new people to help as well. To register a “win” in the program, the assistance must have provided hands-on help trimming, building, and/or fitting of said armor for the person who was awarded Expert Infantry status. More information can be found here Want to setup a "Fire Team? the Fire Team program is completely optional, and is intended to help form a common identity and spirit of camaraderie among 501st Legion Stormtroopers in the same geographic area/garrison that troop together. Fire Teams are not officially recognized by the 501st Legion nor the FISD, although they will be able to access a Fire Team sub-forum on the detachment website. You can find more information here. For those interested here is the original discussion on the creation of Fire teams here With Unquestioned Loyalty Mark Ryner TK-4584 "captsafe66" Fire Team Relations So what exactly are and levels? These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! You can find more information on the programs here. For those unaware it is possible to achieve extra awards at Expert Infantry for each additional version costume you have approved, additional awards are not issued with another Expert Infantry number (you are only issued 1 Expert Infantry number) but you will see a star above the award on your profile and the thread title will show [APPROVED] 2nd, [APPROVED] 3rd, [APPROVED] 4th and so on. Multiple EIB award recipients and info here NOTE If you are approved with a "2nd Version" of a particular costume that you are already approved with you do not receive an additional award, there is only 1 award issued for each costume version ie: only 1 x Hero, 1 x Stunt, 1 x HWT, 1 x ESB, 1 x TFA and so on. If you have a second/additional version costume approved you will see "2nd Version" and [APPROVED] added to the thread title, no additional profile stars (more info on profile awards here) For those of you who have a particular issue (or issues) before or after submitting for Expert Infantry / Centurion level approval, in order to get you an answer faster you can now privately contact the entire Deployment Officer team at one time! Questions about fitting, repairs, CRL standards/requirements or anything pertaining to reaching Levels 2 and 3 are not only welcomed, but encouraged. Hello Brian, or should I say "Braaiiiinnnnnn"! Great to have you here and that you have decided to get this particular costume! We don't see them too often! You have a cool take on it to not expose any skin, it would make it very versatile, I hope your GML would accept something like that!2 points

Finally, continue giving it several layers of paint with very faint yellow, brown, black and a little green, all with an almost dry flat brush. The fake blood is dark and to give it that coagulated effect I mixed it with transparent epoxy glue.1 point

This is how the first layer was left to get it dirty. As for the details, I also started them at the same time.1 point

Once I was done with the damage to the helmet I started to make the mess with coffee bean residue. A great friend from the 501st taught me this technique to start giving it that old, worn-out feel.1 point

I am currently looking into a basic trooper kit with no real time line. I am an active US Army Warrant Officer who lives in Smithfield, Virginia with my wife who is also an avid SW fan. Our newest SW cosplay was for the Disney World Star Cruiser where we were free traders representing the Trade Spine League. I look forward to conversing with the other members here!1 point

Hi! I made a shoulder pouch for my TFA kit, based on the one in this thread, and in the process I made some resources for it that I thought some of y'all might also find useful. First, although I know that there were at one point some downloadable templates for MP40-style pouches available from other 501st sources online, many of the links to them seem to be dead, so here's the one that I made and used. The first pouch I made was based on the dimensions of the real MP40 magazine pouches used in the OT, but I found that to be much larger than the First Order movie references in comparison to my armor, so these dimensions are scaled down by 20%. Presumably the pouches in the movie were downscaled replicas of existing props, like the greeblies on the heavy assault trooper's ammo vest. That does mean that these dimensions are only approximate, since as far as I know no references for the exact size of the movie pouches are available. Adjust the scale as you see fit. Second, rather than using foam blocks to help the pouch keep its shape, I 3D printed an internal support frame, which is available on Thingiverse here (and also crossposted in the 3D printing resources section of this forum). The frame can be sewn directly into the pleather sheets and will keep the whole thing in shape while still allowing it to be at least vaguely functional, which the foam blocks wouldn't. It's still not very useful for anything, of course, but it's a nice idea. If anybody spots any inaccuracies or ways I could improve these templates, do please tell me! I'm probably going to make another pouch for myself (the one in these photos is the first thing I've ever made with pleather, so I think I can improve my craftsmanship on a second attempt), so I'd be glad to be able to incorporate feedback into v2.0.1 point

Looks familiar, nice work. For reference I posted the pouch templates here as many of the online links no longer work, for anyone looking for them.1 point
