  1. I am currently looking into a basic trooper kit with no real time line. I am an active US Army Warrant Officer who lives in Smithfield, Virginia with my wife who is also an avid SW fan. Our newest SW cosplay was for the Disney World Star Cruiser where we were free traders representing the Trade Spine League. I look forward to conversing with the other members here!

  2. Shoulder Straps: Using AJ Hamler's guide was extremely useful. As WTF's shoulder straps come flat and joined there was a bit of extra work to be done. I found it easier to tape done the straps initially and use a steel ruler to cut down the middle to separate the two straps. Next was to roughly trim the outer edges. Looking for a smooth underside to adhere to the extra strip of ABS I used the Dremel and sandpaper to remove the injection mold bumps. I cut two strips of ABS to the shoulder strap dimensions and initially, being a tad nervous used some hot water to test how well the two would bend. Happy with the initial test results, I proceeded with a small pot and boiling water with clamps to hold the straps in place. It is of note the strap and paired backing plate were immersed and clamped at the same time, they shaped specifically to its pair and could not be swapped with the other. Next comes glue and clamps, followed by edge affixing and trimming to size.

  4. Some more research find Baradium-core code key thermal detonator No O detail replaced with a belt button cover Baradium-core code key thermal detonators were special thermal detonators in use by the Galactic Republic's clone army and later used by the Galactic Empire's special ops troopers, such as stormtroopers and the dark troopers. The model had adjustable time settings, ranging from six to eighteen seconds and a small range of five meters within which all matter could be vaporized depending on the setting, or matter in a particular direction. They had activated only with the right code tapped into it; therefore, Rebels couldn't use captured explosives against them. Also, the buttons were unlabelled, which ensured that even if a Rebel discovered the code, they couldn't figure out which buttons to press in order to activate the detonator. Owing to this, stormtroopers needed to employ pattern memorization. When using the detonator, section 32.B.ST57 in the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps Field Manual mandated that the stormtrooper remove their thermal detonator from equipment clip on their lower back, then inspect the detonator for any signs of damage as well as confirm the integrity of the baradium core. They were also given strict instructions to not use it if they were in possession of a potentially unstable detonator. The stormtrooper should then estimate the target range, input the time delay and then input the activation code. Then, while standing half-facing the target, the stormtrooper was to make a lobbed, overhead throw and in the direction of the target, before promptly taking cover from the detonator blast. The stormtrooper then immediately followed up with concentrated blaster fire against the target position. According to the Imperial Handbook: A Commander's Guide, maintaining the weapons included a regular inspection for imperfections in the outer casing as well as full replacement of any damaged units, and that it could be modified to include magnetic and adhesive outer sleeves. In addition, the Rebel general Carlist Rieekan mentioned in his commentary that sometimes captured stormtroopers would trigger the detonator to avoid detainment and interrogation, although he also speculated that they may do so as a means for them to score one final kill.

  7. Yeah at this point I don't necessarily care if it's an accurate sound. It's hard to find any toy blasters that have lights and sound. Nerf guns are mostly silent.

  8. So I'm searching for Blaster electronics from old toys to install in my DLT-19 after reading about @gmrhodes13 using toy electronics and was wondering if anybody had luck with gutting an old 1996 Lucas Films E11 blaster like the one pictured? I have some experience with electronics and soldering because of my profession as an electrician, but I've never done any coding or worked with Adrino or Rasberry I'd hate to tear it up if it's not going to work. And if it's not a good choice can anyone suggest a better blaster or a seller of blaster electronics?

  9. For some context on basic level changes to a CRL, because it effects entry into the 501st, the LMO team (Legion level) would make a final decision on what they believe are fair changes. This is done via a Poll of the LMO team and or suggestions of change that may not align with what you are aiming for. The higher levels are handle by the detachment with less input from the LMO team. Generally they sometimes request different phrasing or change of word etc, but generally allow the detachments to build the case for higher improvements. There have been instances where a part of a built, kit or, components, (let's use boots simply because that's the part currently under discussion), do not match the reference material (that's important) they simply won't green-light the CRL which means it is open and active for members to build against and get approved. If you are edging towards one over another, add in images of the two and what it is about them, you wish to change. Just on the two versions of the Trooper, if they are never shown with a combination of items from the different source materials, then it needs to be pointed out in a CRL that this component can only be worn with that component and cant be miss matched. Differences in the helmet matching specific backplate, those type of things. We do this with accessories to keep it easier for members to read and understand so they get their build right and approved. The same would go for higher levels. Comic books are far from ideal to use as a costume base, considering we are building in a live action manner and some things, as we all aware, just don't translate across well.

  10. I came across this and thought it might be beneficial for anyone who uses ELEGOO Branded Resin Printers since it's a popular brand of resin printer. ELEGOO Official Settings Recommendations This guide tells you recommended settings to use based on which ELEGOO printer you are using and what type of resin you are using in the machine. Probally not going to be entirely perfect, but could be beneficial to getting around the closer settings to get the perfect print. They do also have an Unofficial Recommendation guide from users which is located on the page the official guide is on. But it doesn't seem as detailed. https://www.elegoo.com/blogs/3d-printer-user-guide/elegoo-printers-resin-setting-sheet

As we begin to close out on this term, a reminder to all that the Legion election cycle will begin on the 29th of January and conclude with the close of voting on February 13th. Full Election cycle details can be found further down in this edition. Our DMBO officer TK-12953 (James) has done an outstanding job this term in brining some beautiful merch items to you all, but wait, there is more to come, so better get those imperial credits ready because he hasn't finished yet!! That's right, more excitement coming soon, just in case you haven't had your fill yet. Small CRL Update The Rogue One TK and associated costumes (Artillery Trooper and soon to be Night trooper), have just undergone a small update at basic level. This update was made to allow the 2 major versions of the ammo belt worn, as seen in both the movie and TV series. The changes are as follows. The R1 belt has a front and rear plastic section. The CRL asked that these were overlapped on the sides a specific way. On screen, we see it overlapped front over back and back over front, so now the CRL simply states it is overlapped on the sides. You chose which way to overlap it. The belt overlaps on the sides The second small change was to allow the lower lip of the belt to be trimmed, as per many screen references. Some were trimmed and some were not, but both are seen as commonly as each other. The bottom edge of the front belt may run flat across the belt, or may be trimmed at an angle near the cod armor to match screen references. Some screen references showing the different trimming of this lower lip. No trimming Trimmed That's the update for January, see you all again in the final addition for the term. I don't have any additional information to share at this time. If I get word about shipping dates or anything, I will update the thread here: Secret Merch Item As of December 29th, the patches have been completed by the factory and are undergoing QC. With the Legion year coming to a close, I have created the first annual DMBO (Detachment Merchandise & Branding Officer) End of year merch sale. I have collected some extra items and am looking to sell them to fund buying extra items for next year. Normally I buy a few extra items during each merch run in order to offer them to new members, but as I didn't get many request this year, it is time to sell these off. You can learn more about the sale here: 1st Annual DMBO Merch Sale We have two more Merch Items in the works for this legion year. I will post more information about them soon as I have approval from LMBO and LFL. Unfortunately, they will be short runs, as they have to be completed before the end of Feb. So please be checking the forum regularly, and if you have not setup to follow the Detachment Merchandise sections to get email alerts for new post, I suggest that you do so. If you have any thoughts, suggestions, comments or concerns about FISD Merch or Branding, my "virtual" door is always open. Hit me up, you can reach via email, forum DM, or find me on Facebook. With Unquestioned Loyalty James Silvius TK-12953 "jsilvius" Merchandise & Branding Officer With elections starting at the beginning of February it's time to check your detachment affiliation. OK so you look at your Legion profile and it shows that your detachment affiliation to FISD is pending, or otherwise incorrect. Why does this happen, and what is detachment affiliation anyway, and what will FISD do about it? The answer is that detachment affiliation is only ever used once a year, and for one purpose. The only time the Legion ever uses it for anything is to determine who can run for DL and who can vote in detachment elections. That's it. Otherwise it is pretty much ignored and not used for anything. The process of validating detachment membership is cumbersome and time consuming because people use different email information between their Legion and detachment logins, and that there is no way to bulk update the rosters. For a small detachment it is not a big deal to do this manually, but for a detachment the size of FISD with hundreds and soon thousands of 501st members, it's impossible. Fortunately we have technical folk both on FISD and in the Legion web team. Once a year they take a feed from FISD's database and do a bulk update on the Legion database. This occurs right before the election cycle starts and is done once per year. Pro tips: 1) Ensure the email address you use on the Legion & FISD boards are the exact same. 2) Ensure that your FISD profile has the correct TKID. 3) IMPORTANT! You MUST be in the right security group. It should be "501st Stormtrooper" in order for the automated system to pull you over. This thread is where you get your detachment access updated. 4) If after the bulk update is complete and your profile is still not updated, and you are 100% sure your info is in sync between the two boards, then ask for to the Legion web team. They should get feedback on why this isn't working. 5) If all else fails, ping the FISD staff. Which basically means that we'll simply tell the 501st web team to bulk approve everyone 6) If still you have no luck you can contact the legion web team directly via email: lwm@501st.com To check detachment affiliation go to the 501st holocron here, login using your 501st forum username and password, click on YOUR PROFILE DATA, then look down the lower part of the page for YOUR UNIT AFFILIATION, then under DETACHMENT AFFILIATION. If you do not see FISD listed reach out to your GML (garrison membership liaison) as they can add it if you are an approved Stormtrooper. If FISD shows as PENDING contact our DL @Sly11 and request a manual update. 2024 Legion Election Timeline It's coming up to that time of the year again, legion elections are just around the corner. Multiple EIB award recipients and info here NOTE If you are approved with a "2nd Version" of a particular costume that you are already approved with you do not receive an additional award, there is only 1 award issued for each costume version ie: only 1 x Hero, 1 x Stunt, 1 x HWT, 1 x ESB, 1 x TFA and so on. If you have a second/additional version costume approved you will see "2nd Version" and [APPROVED] added to the thread title, no additional profile stars (more info on profile awards here) For those of you who have a particular issue (or issues) before or after submitting for Expert Infantry / Centurion level approval, in order to get you an answer faster you can now privately contact the entire Deployment Officer team at one time! 18. Huge shoutout to Andrew of Crossfire Props - if you need stuff 3D printed, including in large-format resin, he was an absolute professional and pleasure to work with, and at a reasonable price. He did some TLJ First Order Thermal Detonators for me in single-piece resin, with low-infill FDM for lightweight inner tubes, from the Jesse_M files on commission and they came out amazing. He's currently based out of Kansas City, MO, USA but will ship via UPS, and everything was well packed. Give him a shout with any print or paint commissions! @crossfireprops on IG https://crossfireprops.artstation.com/ https://crossfireprops.com/pages/customs-commissions

  19. Coming from FDM printers since about 2016 to SLA printers this past Christmas, the thing that was most difficult for me to grasp at first was exposure time. This post will, unfortunately, not be extremely high effort on my part (I don't have photos of my own to share) but it's what helped me get going and figure out my own exposure times vs relying on lists and forum posts. First - you need the XP2 Validation Matrix. https://github.com/Photonsters/Resin-exposure-finder-v2/releases/download/BETA_2.1/ResinXP2-ValidationMatrix_200701.stl This file is "beta" from 2020 and millions of people have used it. This is indeed the one. There's a TON of different exposure tests out there, but this one prints quickly and gets you going quickly. It is also explained in depth in the video below... Next, you need to watch this vid that explains how to understand the printed validation matrix and adjust your exposure time accordingly. It is INCREDIBLY helpful. My prints went from "eh, not bad" to "OMG lookit this detail!!!" after one viewing and a couple test prints of that matrix. I'd printed other tests but wasn't totally sure what I was looking at. The video above taught me what I needed to know. Lastly - some resin makers publish suggested exposure settings for various printers. The best listing I've found is Siraya Tech. https://siraya.tech/pages/support (click View Guide on the resin you own and then go to their google drive link on the following page) Suggested exposure settings should be viewed as a good starting point for your test matrix. Your printer may need to go up or down in terms of exposure time depending on the age of the printer and age of the resin. Hope this helps kickstart some awesome prints.
