I know someone who is a TK that works let's say in the SW-universe who would gladly help out in putting something together, I could reach out to him!3 points

I stay away from any enamel based paints, good for props but not for armor in my opinion, and don't get me started on RustOleum paint, I don't know whether its been old stock but I've never had a full can spray perfectly all the way through. Auto shops here sell automotive acrylic paint in spray cans, (not sure what there is around other parts of the world) from memory I used 6 cans of base white and 3 cans of clearcoat which works out a lot cheaper than having it professionally sprayed, albeit I've done automotive spray-painting in my past, and you can get a very nice gloss finish, just takes a little bit of practice getting used to applying the paint. The other advantage is being able to sand and compound polish if you get any bits of dust or any small runs.2 points

As much as we all love saving money, sadly I think if you want good results you just have to ācry once buy onceā and have it professionally painted like @ukswrath did.1 point

I will admit the automotive option is considerably more expensive, but then it never dulls, fades, or loses it's luster. Like a vintage car it's stunning, but you're going to pay for it. Everything else in my armor arsenal except the FOTK and ST is rattle can. That said, I'm always looking for a better rattle can option, I'll have to take a look at the Behr. Thanks Justin1 point

I suspect that when you start to work with it, most of your questions will answer themselves. It's pretty easy stuff to work with. I highly suggest something like a jelly jar with the double lid to house and mix your ABS paste in. I used a baby food jar and the acetone melted the seal in the lid after a year or so. I had a solid block of ABS inside that I had to break free (no sense in wasting it) and revitalize in a new jar. Every consistency of ABS paste has a use in my opinion. The runny stuff that's super liquidy is fantastic for a top coat or getting in small cracks. More chunky stuff works great for filling holes quickly. Everything needs sanding of course, but runny paste sands easier and seems more coherent. Chunky paste will reveal inner bubbles as it's sanded. And since I'm putting in my 2 cents, I really like 2 part epoxy for holding things like shims in place. Use the ABS paste to finish edges and holes but rely on the strength of 2 part epoxy to bond things together. My personal fav is Devcon Plastic Welder.1 point

Thread on making ABS paste, quite an easy process to make just a little tough for sanding. I find multiple thin coats the best as it doesn't create as many air holes while drying internally I don't think anyone has ever applied for EIB so additional requirements have not been added to the CRL, you could contact Andrew @Sly11about it.1 point

Below is a list of the photos that we did and why we did them the way we did them. I'm especially proud of a few things: 1) The quality of the production. I'm adding a link to the a folder that contains high def photos. If you zoom in you can really see the level of love & detail that was put into this calendar. 2) The December concept: we were running out of ideas (remember there were only 8 approved costumes back then) and rather than putting in filler, I had the concept of "looking back" like a high school yearbook. We solicited photos from troops that people attended, and I think the end result was an excellent job of putting them together beautifully to convey the joys of trooping with friends. 3) Not only did we want only the best costumes to represent the Legion, but we also wanted to showcase members from around the globe vs. just US based. 4) The back cover: we were able to get in every single person who made EI and Centurion, plus all the Achievement Award recipients, plus all the staff. I felt it was important to capture this moment in history for posterity. 5 years was a very big milestone at the time, considering how humble the detachment started. January: ANH (Jesse McClear, TK 4702, Great Lakes Garrison) February: ESB (Paul Hoeffer, TK 8020, Garrison Titan) March: Blasters (E-11 by TK 4702, SE-14R by Daetrin TK 8020) April: ROTJ (Alan Quick, TK 3066, Cloud City Garrison) May: HWT (Juan Morales, TK 4326, Puerto Rico Garrison) June: TKC (William Soltys, TK 6107, Badlands Garrison - Canada) July: INC (Steve Marle, TK 3862, French Garrison) August: BFGs (DLT-19 & Lewis Gun) September: Helmets, ANH, ROTJ, ESB October: DEATH (Brian Anderson, TK 7602, New England Garrison) November: SKY (Mason Carson, TK 4603, Great Lakes Garrison) December: High school yearbook concept, looking back at 5 years of FISD Link to a OneDrive folder with all the goodies: 2011 Calendar1 point

Many of us have switched to Behr Premium No. 52 Gloss White, if it is available in your region. It sprays significantly nicer than the previously recommended Rust-Oleum rattle cans, matches the Denuo Novo white ABS decently well, and is still decently inexpensive. I don't own or want to invest in an HVLP spray gun system at this time, so mixing custom automotive colors wasn't really an option.1 point

OneDrive has this cool feature where you can see "pix from this day in history" type of thing. Today it regurgitated one of the few times I got to wear a Vader. Not mine, but one of my garrison mate's. I have to say if you've never done a Vader, it's kinda tiring. That shoulder armor starts getting heavy after and hour, and having to keep your posture perfect, etc. is much more tiring that being a TK. Still, it's a huge amount of fun.1 point
