Height looks ok, just check the right side (front on) looks to be cut on a slight angle Reference material for you for higher level clearance DO reference material The top of the ABS belt shall sit at or just above the bottom of the central and vertical ab button panels. A slight overlap is suggested, but not required. AND Although not specifically listed in the CRL, the following item (underlined below) is often overlooked by during the build/painting process, and while not required at any level can be recommendations to improve the overall look of the armor. AB button plates should ideally be squared at the corners and be trimmed to where the actual plate is inside the ridge area it is mounted to as seen below. Note: For Level 3 the paint does not extend to the bottom of the actual raised button.3 points

That's actually not a bad idea. Since I may be getting replacements, I may try that just to practice.2 points

That makes sense. Ill have to try it on tonight to see where that strapping is. If memory serves, I think the alignment is off2 points

Hello all! So excited to finally be approved. It's been a long time in the making. My name is Marissa, I'm with the Dutch Garrison. I joined the legion in 2020 with my Darth Zash. I've made more 'obscure' costumes since (Mara Jade, Darth Revan), and seeing all the TK's at events made me really want to build my own as well. Every year we walk 10 kilometers in costume for Pink Ribbon during the annual Dam tot Dam event. Last year I walked in my Mara Jade, but I had so much respect for the TK's doing it in their kits. I then made myself a promise: next year I'll stand there in my TK too. So that was my goal and deadline! Having mostly worked with fabric before, a TK was really a challenge for me. Luckily I had help from my fellow troopers. I was approved last Wednesday, and yesterday I walked the 10km. I know that's insane for a first troop in a TK, but a lot of willpower goes a long way (and fans in my helmet..). Looking forward to many more events in this kit! Cheers!2 points

CRL Workflow Update The Rebels animated series Stormtrooper CRL has undergone a minor update to now include the Chimera insignia on the pauldron. It was also brought to my attention this CRL had no synopsis, so this has also been rectified. Synopsis: Stormtroopers were the foot soldiers of the Galactic Empire, tasked with enforcing order throughout the galaxy. They wore armor similar to that of the clone troopers of the Old Republic and were considered the spiritual successors to the clone army. Stormtroopers under the command of Grand Admiral Thrawn had the ability to wear the Chimera insignia, as seen in the animated series Rebels. This appeared on the pauldron showing absolute dedication to their commander. Fun News Private Collectors original screen identified Hero Stormtrooper armour has come up for auction. It's great to see this almost complete set, (images available in the Gallery section of our forums), and some lucky/wealthy collector will become the new owner in less than 30 days time. Looks like the current bidding is at $200,000, and it could well go for far more that that given the extreme rarity of Hero armour, especially a near complete set such as this. LFL have some of the Luke hero armour in their archives, but that seems to be missing the limbs, or at least matched to that set. That leaves one other know set out there in the wild of private collections. Now if i can just get that Lotto win, I'd be in with a chance lol!! Ultimately, we all hope it goes to a good home and someone gets to truly enjoy it. This is that same kit several years back now. Gino from EFX was able to make molds off the inside of this kit, every part, but sadly they never released the actual product for sale. To this day Gino is the only one with a full ABS pulled set from this beautiful masterpiece. Looks like some yellowing has occurred since the below image was taken back circa 2013. If you are lucky to get to a SW Celebration, he's has had his set on display a few times. More Fun News: A little while ago, I started a discussion with fellow staff on creating some FISDcentric screen savers or backgrounds for our members to access offering another fun way to represent your favorite detachment on lap tops and PC's There are future plans to include mobile device formats as well. TK23592 Nairy jumped at the chance and put together some truly awesome and fun designs. Today we are releasing the first of a series of these backgrounds, available to all members, so keep an eye on the Announcement section of the forums where these will be permanently housed and ready for use. More Merch To Look Forward To: As we close out on some awesome FISD merch runs, there is another in the wind. It's almost one year to the day that I began building my ANH Stormtrooper kit. I'm 20 troops in, having fun experiences, making good friends. After so long without a project, it was time to expand my kit collection and join the First Order. Sticking with the always recognizable, always popular clean storm trooper kit. I love the Star Wars Resistance show and I have some fellow troopers with some FO kits, so I want to expand on that. I also enjoy the Galaxy's Edge troopers. Their banter is always entertaining. Since I didn't really do a build thread of any sort for my first kit, I wanted to start out with one. Mostly because this kit seems like it might need some feedback on way to approval. Some details about the build First Order TK The Last Jedi CRL: https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TK_TLJ Kit: Imperial Surplus (I don't think they offer this kit any longer, so no link.) Boots: KeepTrooping https://keeptrooping.com/product/trooper-white/ Gaskets: May be used from a fellow Mountain Garrison member. If not, likely Geeky Pink. Helmet: Looking to get the Denuo Novo premier https://www.denuonovo.com/products/star-wars-the-last-jedi-stormtrooper-premier-helmet#description-flex Blaster: 3d print from this site. Foam in your armor is always a good idea if something doesn't fit quite right. Something else that I've seen once or twice was if the thighs were turning because the thigh strapping slipped inwards: Like this, with the red as the thigh strapping and the turquoise as the belt. If that was the reason for the thigh rotation, fixing the thigh straps to a certain point at the belt (for example with a snap or velcro) would help keep the thigh in position: Hope you find something that works for you, good luck!1 point

This is the one thing I wanted to comment on with my GML hat. I completely agree with Chemi here. We have some detachments in the legion who are very strict with their CRLs. Believe it or not the FISD is actually not one of them. I feel that the pauldron should look like the video game references from the start. Us GMLs will approve this based on the wording and the pictures. If people start building them then we will have a handful of these characters in the legion approved with a pauldron that looks like the one made at this point. The black lines should be moved more towards the center to be more in line with the reference photos shown.1 point
-
It's entirely up to the GML as far as basic approval so any issues check with them first. That said here are some references, two main types of rears on the forearms for TFA, standard and Finn (or Hero/Stunt), with TLJ being a straighter cut. That is incorrect, should be same widths both sides TFA I doubt your tab recesses would be noticed but if you have to fill you could match those as well just to be sure.1 point

I'm moving on with some progress. Just a quick question. What are you guys think about the buttons position? Is that OK?1 point

I got my first crack after 33 troops, not a bad run. I decided to try something different, having had to work with fibreglass building my death trooper costume, I picked up some new techniques. Here is the crack in the chest piece at the neck line. Materials used: UV resin paint brush tape UV light scissors Bondo fibreglass cloth sandpaper First, I taped the outside side of the crack to align it and hold everything in place. Next I brushed on a thin layer of UV resin and cured it. Took about 10 seconds Next, I cut a piece of the fibreglass cloth to cover the area . Then I painted on.another thin coat of resin, applied the cloth onto the wet resin and then dabbed another layer of resin onto the cloth to soak it in. Once this was done, I cured it again I then added a few more layers of resin curing them as I went. Finally, I sanded the repair smooth with 11pm grit sandpaper There was a slight edge to the repair, so I sanded it with 220 grit sand paper, then buffed with 1000 the 2000 grit sand paper and finished with Novus polish All repaired in less than 5 minutes1 point

I have provided plenty of reference material, including full 360* views of the costume. CRLs have been written and approved off of far less. I have written a CRL that I believe captures the details seen in the reference material. I cannot provide reference of something that does not exist. While the TFA FOTK CRL has helped take a ton of work out of the creation of this NEW, separate CRL, the fact remains that it is a new, separate CRL. And if something is not able to be visually confirmed via reference material, I will not be including it in my CRL. Some things I can bend on, but I refuse to require someone else to meet an unfair standard. If the CRL is unable to be approved by Detachment Staff as is or with minor additional tweaks confirmed via actual reference (as with the TD end cap) and is unable to move forward, I will work with the LMO office directly or I will withdraw it from consideration. Thank you.1 point
-
Justin, as you are building to this CRL, it is not up to us to provide references although we do plenty of research for every CRL to assist. As has been mentioned, there is a base CRL for TFA FOTK, as this game version looks to basically be the same, the base CRL plus some differences the base CRL should be adhered to. In real world we know those things exist and you are building a real world costume based from a game which is quite obvious they design from the actual costume, plus embellishments created for the character. It is up to you to provide references that these things do not exist. This is the basic principle of our CRL's and yes the 501st high standards compared to other costuming clubs. Not created by me or any of the current staff, but simple rules that the detachment has continued to follow over the last 15 years. Why should we want to settle for less, when these are things most of the membership are very very proud of.1 point
-
I agree with your observations - the ab sides are seamless, but that's never been been the point of my argument. Rather, that the requirement for them to be seamless should be a L2 or higher point of scrutiny. Again, I won't hold up the CRL if leadership is steadfast in their belief that this is important enough to keep it as a blocker at Basic. I also agree with the TD observation and as such, the phrase "A white stripe is present around the end of the cylinder that extends slightly onto the circular surface." has been struck from the TD section in proposed CRL in the OP. All black TLJ-style end cap it is. As to the blaster, I agree those observations can probably be assumed based on the blasters in use by other characters, but it would be difficult to provide reference that this is the case for Lt. Gauge specifically, as much of the reference shared is for the playable character models, not his. I never saw lights on his blaster, so I don't see the need to require them. Gauge is only ever seen carrying a single F11-D. The reference shared is of the playable game character, not Gauge, so not technically relevant. There isn't a question of "realistic" or "game render" version. There is only one version of this character, and I am using reference from the game to recreate it. If a detail is unable to be verified using game assets, it shouldn't be included. There is no reason to hold people to an artificially high standard that we are unable to prove using reference. It's pretty simple. If I struck something, provide reference from the game that proves me wrong. Again, there is no reason to make this more complicated than it needs to be. I'll give you that upon review, it does appear that the glove palm stitching is a contrasting color and has been updated in the OP. If you disagree with other points, please provide reference as below. Plenty of cool helmet internal pics over here, but yes - let's keep this on topic. While we need to be thorough in our research, I've provided some pretty excellent, full 360* reference that is pretty clear. There were some good observations that have led to change. And there has been repetition of opinions that have not brought value to the discussion. I'd hate for excessive scrutiny by staff to be viewed as personal attacks or as attempts to derail or hinder the creation of this CRL. It's not like FISD gets new CRLs as often as other Detachments, and most others are significantly more "pro-CRL creation". Let's ensure feedback stays constructive and is driving towards the successful completion of the CRL. My intent is to make the files and templates for the costume add-on pieces available for free to the FISD after approval in case anyone else wants to make this costume, but also - I'm moving houses soon and my son is due at the end of November. If this isn't completed timely, it's likely that it simply won't be. Let's get any other constructive CRL feedback addressed so I can take final photos, and get this done.1 point
